'Embarrassed' NY Prosecutor Mark Suben Admits Porn Past: VIDEO

Suden

Just a few weeks ago, prior to his reelection, Mark Suben, district attorney of Cortland County in New York, denied rumors that he appeared in 70s-era porn. Yesterday, he changed that story, admitting that, yes, as a struggling actor he had a few turns in skin flicks.

"Recently materials have been circulated alleging that I was involved in the adult film industry about 40 years ago in New York. Those allegations are true," Suben, first elected Cortland County DA in 2008, said during a press conference yesterday. "I was an actor in adult films for a short period in the early 70s. I was also an actor in other venues including off Broadway, soap operas and commercial advertisements."

He went on:

A few weeks ago, when asked, I denied this to members of the press. I regret that and I apologize for it. I was shocked and embarrassed to be confronted with this so many years later. I was embarrassed for my family and friends who have stood by me. I also denied my actions to my family, my friends and my staff.

Suben described his work in those films, including one called The Lecher, and his subsequent lies as "bad judgement."

AFTER THE JUMP, the YouTube video made by an anonymous tipster who exposed Suben's celluloid past.

  11. nothing but a steaming pile of BS smear.

  12. I looked at his website but couldn't tell if he ran with a party affiliation, Republican or Democrat.

To me, the only reason this would matter is if he ran as a "family values" candidate, a hard-liner on "moral" issues. Even then we're talking about something from FORTY years ago!

  15. I don't think the porn is a problem. However, a DA who lies about it before the reelection and then 'comes clean' and apologizes AFTER the election... is that a trustworthy man?

  16. I don't get the fuss about this either. Porn stars are people. They can be more than just porn stars

  17. The 'detective' who put that expose vid together has too much time on his hands, and I'm guessing not much of a life.

  19. what's to be embarrassed about? it's honest work.

why do we live in culture that treats sex like something horrible and yet utterly WORSHIPS gun-culture?

it's not like he made his money by aiding Big Tobacco. Or the NRA. or the affront to humanity that is Halliburton.

  20. I don't care about the double life. I want to see the goods. Stupid censored YouTube.

  21. @Bakeley, do a Google image search on "gus thomas porn". There are some screen caps from a porn flick he did where he played the head of a Satanic cult. :-)

Assuming I have his tid-bits right (his face and wang aren't in the same shots), let's just say he had a great future ahead of him.... as a district attorney. As a porn star? Not so much. Nothing wrong with it, he just wasn't going to give John Holmes or Ron Jeremy a lot of competition. To be shallow about it, of course.

  22. @Tanoka. Agreed. I don't care what he did when he was young. We all make mistakes and do weird things. But he did two things in the present that are wrong. 1) He lied about it. And for someone running for DA, that is bad. 2) He came clean only after the election. That is manipulating the election and not giving the voters the opportunity to decide on his qualifications. If he had admitted it right away and let the voters decide, I would have nothing against him.

  23. Aw, the sad and predictable comments from people who say that Americans are prudish.

Um first off, this is a District Attorney we are talking about. It's not so much his past ( although it's weird) but the fact that he repeatedly lied and denied that he had acted in porn movies. He even went so far as to say it was "some other guy who looked like me." That's the problem. If he had continued to cover this up, you can bet he could have been the target for blackmail or extortion.

Also, in one of his films, he has sex with a babyfaced girl who plays a Girl Scout. Sorry, but that is not going to look good when he is charging people who have sex with underaged girls.

The fact that he lied and stonewalled should cost him his job. And please spare us the lectures about this being about prudishness. This is about a coverup.

  25. Um, Geoff M, bizarre that you should shoot the messenger. Haven't you learned that it's the lies and coverup that get the politician every time? IF someone says they didn't do something, they need to be rigorously fact checked.

The truth ALWAYS will out. Kudos to the enterprising person who exposed the fact that this DA had the hubris to lie. How could he be so dumb in this day and age to think we wouldn't find out?
