Washington DC Archdiocese Fighting Maryland's Marriage Measure: VIDEO

Mdmarriagearch

Perhaps hoping to appeal to young voters, Washington DC's Catholic Archdiocese commissioned Father Kevin "Kev" Regan for their 90-second long ad against Maryland's Question 6, the passage of which will bring about marriage equality.

Watch Regan employ his oratorical skills and espouse "the gift of sexuality" - heterosexuality only, of course - all the while preaching discrimination AFTER THE JUMP.

  2. Churches that become involved in politics should be audited and taxed, meticulously and heavily.

  3. ....tax-exempt whatnow??

if your religion can be used to discriminate against those who don't share then what's stopping someone else's religion from being used to discriminate against you?

  4. As a long-lapsed marginal-at-best Catholic, I have come to despise the Catholic church. They are obviously looking to create enemies. I'm very heartened by the fact that the fastest growing religion in the US is "NONE". The more educated a society is, the less religious it becomes. Obviously the RC church is trying to keep as many of their followers ignorant and superstitious --it works to their benefit. They know what happens when people get "all educated and stuff". I see the church as a promoter of self-delusions and power-saving dogmas. It is vile in most of its doings. And has been such through history. While the church does much charitable work... it is all for self-glorification. The Church itself has made me a hater of the Roman Catholic Church. I often wonder: were the RC church to gain REAL political power, if we wouldn't be returned to the days of the inquisition and blood-letting. I think we would.

  5. His cathedral is at Dupont Circle. Good luck reaching out to that community!

Also, he doesn't have his Facebook page locked down. Feel free to leave a message:

  6. Kev, FYI, when young people see the collar, they groan and roll their eyes. When you're done speaking, they roll their eyes again.

  7. Though personally I agree that churches should be subject to taxes:

    1) What the Archdiocese is doing here isn't actually illegal under current IRS regulations. 501(c)(3) organizations may not endorse specific candidates, or direct people to vote for or against a particular person or party, but they are permitted a lot of leeway for political issues, particularly ballot measures. As long as it is not a significant part of their resources -- time or money -- they may initiate ballot measures, write ballot measures, advocate for or against ballot measures, and even tell people how to vote on a ballot measure.

    2) Even where they do violate IRS guidelines, the IRS has admitted that it has largely put investigating them on hold since 2009. However, one should still go ahead and lodge a complaint with the IRS whenever a church clearly is violating IRS guidelines (i.e., actively endorsing a specific candidate or party), or if they appear to be devoting a significant amount of money to endorsing a position on a ballot initiative.

  8. The nerve of them to send out this queen to lecture America about straight marriage.

  9. I'm sorry, but no Kevin should be straight.

And nobody knows more about the beauty of sexuality than someone who has never experienced it, right?

  10. Years ago I read a book about the Church and its attitude toward sexuality. The LOWEST estimate of the number of gay Catholic seminarians was 1/3. Most estimates were 50%.

For decades, even centuries, the Catholic way of handling gays was to funnel them into the priesthood. Don't want to f*ck women? Oh, that's a religious calling!

So the chances that Father "Kev" is just another self-hating homo are pretty good.

  11. yes HE created MALE and FEMALE. Thus, in the name of HIM, all MALES and FEMALES should be able to get marry.

  12. Years ago I read a book about the Church and its attitude toward sexuality. The LOWEST estimate of the number of gay Catholic seminarians was 1/3, and these were from people INSIDE the church. Most estimates were 50%.

For decades, even centuries, the Catholic way of handling gays was to funnel them into the priesthood. Don't want to f*ck women? Oh, that's a religious calling!

So the chances that Father "Kev" is just another self-hating gay man are pretty good.

  13. I joined a lapsed-catholic friend of mine at a Christmas Eve service at St. Matthew's(south of DuPont Circle in DC)in 2009 and this guy railed against Obama for a good 15 minutes during his 'sermon'. I was shocked and amazed that he got applause and cheers from the congregation. Both of us were so shocked we didn't think to walk out.

  17. Why is it "God" is always a "He"? It just further suggests "God" is a fiction created by men to address that which they cannot understand and control those who otherwise would stay away from the church.

  18. The Catholic Church is the new Taliban of our time. Their attack on gay people is beyond obessive. It is truely antichrist now. Gays need to realize that these are not funny. This is getting very serious regarding their hate.

  20. If the Catholic Church likes to stick their nose in politics so much, then they should be giving some of the millions they make in donations to the IRS. Otherwise, they need to STFU.

  21. Someone should repost this video on youtube under a different account, so that the youtube community can comment and rate it. Since they claim to be "non-profit" and get a "tax exemption"...surely it would be in the spirit of the law for doing so to be "fair use". If they complain and have youtube remove the reposting? Get an actor to play his part in a new video, with a huge lisp, quoting exactly what he says.

It's time to play dirty with these crazy closeted queens.

  24. At the risk of stereotyping, is it really necessary to play the video to get a suspicion as to this guy's likely predelictions??

    Posted by: EdA | Nov 3, 2012 3:29:45 AM

  25. @Christopher Allen Horton: Of COURSE is is! Best reason there is! What the churchianitans are trying to do is jam their beliefs down the Nation's throat. Luckily, the gag reflex is still pretty strong.
