Sally Field Speaks with Oprah About Her Gay Son, Her Future: VIDEO

Field_oprah

Sally Field spoke with Oprah last night as part of her 'Oprah's Next Chapter' series. One of the items Field touched on was her gay son Sam (who as many of you know serves as Towleroad's intern).

Field_samSaid Field:

"It's important to have a parent speak about racing a magnificent, proud, intelligent, funny, lovable, sexy gay son. And there are so many parents who are frightened of that and who don't embrace their children as they struggle. Those children are struggling to embrace who they are, what nature intended them to be."

Trying to find a longer clip than the one below, but until I do, enjoy the brief one along with two others in which Field talks about her next chapter and how her roles have informed her life.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

On her next chapter:

How her past roles live with her:

  1. OPRAH: You can’t straddle the fence on bigotry and civil rights to appease your audience and get ratings. Hosting Osteen and Warren is both hurtful and offensive to the LGBT community .

  2. Sam sure is a lucky guy to have Sally Field as his mother.

  3. I'm sorry, racing your children is cruel, whether they're gay or straight. (It's okay to race bi kids.)

  4. As usual Oprah pays no attention to her white interviewee - preferring to look at something happening behind Sally. However if it was a black person being interviewed Oprah would be over the top friendly and would pay full attention.

Anyone thinking Oprah is not racist needs to watch her body language when she is interviewing someone white and compare it to when she interviews someone black. Also see how many times she smiles when interviewing someone black.

  5. And while we are on the subject of Oprah...can anyone remember how vocal and involved she was the first time Obama got elected ?

Notice how quite she was this time and didn't help him ? It seems she didn't want to re-elect Obama once she knew she would be made to pay her fair share of taxes on her BILLIONS.

She is such a FAKE. I have always said Oprah is the Queen of Superficiality and Self Promotion.

  7. You need to fix the quote. She said "raising" not "racing."

  8. Can't we all just get along? Don't start a raise war.

  9. Oprah is a great American success story. Rags to riches on her talent and work ethic. I remember her giving one of her teachers , a white woman, a lot of credit for motivating her to aim for the stars. She is a wonderful human being.

  10. Those trolls are just distracting from the epic cuteness that is Sam. Bah. Jealous biotchs. Also love Sally, she's just such an inspirational woman. What a beautiful family they have.

  11. Oprah lost touch with reality the day she demanded that all of us throw away our jeans and go purchase new "stylish" clothes.

More money than brains, I suspect.
