Pope Says Gay Marriage Offends Human Truth, Threatens Justice and Peace

Pope Benedict attacked gays in his message for World Day of Peace 2013 today.

Ipad_popeSaid the Pope in his message, via Ansa.IT:

"There is also a need to acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the face of attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different types of union…Such attempts actually harm and help to destabilize marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society. These principles are not truths of faith, nor are they simply a corollary of the right to religious freedom. They are inscribed in human nature itself, accessible to reason and thus common to all humanity. The Church's efforts to promote them are not therefore confessional in character, but addressed to all people, whatever their religious affiliation. Efforts of this kind are all the more necessary the more these principles are denied or misunderstood, since this constitutes an offence against the truth of the human person, with serious harm to justice and peace."

The Pope and his Vatican City brethern have no shame nor common decency when it comes to milliions of GLBT human beings on this planet. These Papists are a particularly disgusting bunch of know-nothings. Thank God most American Catholics don’t abide by this crap from Rome.

The Pope offends humanity. The Pope is a hate monger, espouses hate every time he speaks for with his hatred of all things gay. Catholicism should be outlawed and outright banned from the United States. No place for such a hateful bigoted religion.

  4. Blake says

I do not understand why we are hated so much?

What homosexual has done something so heinous that it has damaged us so much?

There are so many other things going on in this world that are doing real damage, the majority of which is caused by heterosexuals, that are better served with this time and money.

  5. Paul says

The truth is the Pope and the Catholics have pedophile priest and criminals in the Catholic Church.
The Pope and the Catholics keep justice from being done by hiding these criminals and their information in the Catholic Church.
There will be no peace until justice is done by giving up all the names of criminal Catholics and all of their information to the public and law enforcement, that means they give the names of these criminal and all of the information they have on them if full about the criminals who are in the Catholic Church.

  6. Joseph L. says

Well if the article was about my reaction, it would be headlined: “GAY Says POPE Offends Human Truth, Threatens Justice and Peace”…. yup that’s about right.

  7. Phil says

It threatens justice??? Does he mean gays invite bashers to attack and therefore the victim is responsible for what the predator does??? When have we heard this before?

  8. StillMarriedinCA says

Crazy old white dude in a dress yelling at the gays to get off his lawn.
He has no influence even on his own people at this point. What a useless waste of fetid breath.

  9. eric says

Two people pledging unconditional mutual support for each other and any children they may have is a threat to peace and justice?
I’m not as well read in philosophy, gospel and canon law as Prof. Ratzenberger, but it seems to me that getting people into stable relationships strengthens society.

Homophobia is war against humanity and reason. It is a business the church is expert at. In fanatic defense of her self-appointed right to define morality, she has been warring against equality, democracy and rational thought for the last 300 years.

  10. Caliban says

So the former Hitler Youth who just blessed Rebecca Kagada, the vocal leader of a campaign of genocide against gay people, says GAYS threaten truth, justice, and peace?

Considering the causes of truth, justice, and peace in this world would instantly be improved if Vatican City was wiped out by a natural disaster I don’t think the Pope is really an authority on the matter.

  11. anon says

The interesting thing is that he’s claiming that there are doctrines that are “larger” and more important than Catholic theology. I would not have expected the Pope to say that.

  12. simon says

It is funny a man who never married and knows nothing about what marriage really is made some highly nonsensical statements about marriage. He must be informed by his God. Otherwise how can he knows anything about it.

  13. Hamish says

Pope Rat takes another dump in his silk panties for World Peace Day. Well past the time this senile, hateful old turd was put in an extended care facility. Promote peace and justice by denying human rights and justice to an oppressed minority? TIme to say ‘night night’ Ratty.

  14. Honest Abe says

@hadenoughbs Where do you get the idea that the American catholics don’t follow this old fool? Take a look at Santorum, Ryan and Scalia! Raging homophobes all. We also have to note that the so-called church has donated Millions of dollars to Prop 8 in California and to every other anti-equality campaign. My problem is they are trying to shove their hateful, homophobic, mysoginist, non Christ like, so called religion down my throat!!!!

  15. SoLeftImRight says

When you incite disruption of peace by professing hate, you really have to look in the mirror, buddy. What a sick human being. Disrupt the Vatican, tax the Church!

  16. Diogenes Arktos says

@anon: The RCC does believe that something can be “above” its theology: natural law. Natural law is supposed to be what *all* people are able to derive from nature via logic. (Implicitly, everyone will reach the same conclusions.) Pope Benny is trying to be broadminded and reach non-RC people by arguing from natural law. As you can see, however, natural law in practice is somewhat dictated by theology.

@Honest Abe: HadEnoughBS is basically right. Many American RC in the pew and not, routinely give the finger to the hierarchy. The most classic example is contraception. Look at the polls for issues opposed by Rome, like women’s ordination. Look at the support for Obama in the past election, in spite of the hierarchy’s threats of hellfire and damnation.

  17. Vint says

Of course, the difficulty in claiming that people have misunderstood Natural Law, and that you therefore have to tell them what that Law is, is that Natural Law is what all people recognize as true, and the fact that opinions differ pretty much means that the subject under discussion isn’t part of Natural Law.

The first resort of religion confronted with reason is to lie.

  18. Bob says

Catholic pews in many cities are full of stupid queens who love its ritual more than they love themselves.

IF YOU ARE CATHOLIC, STAND UP DURING THE SERVICE AND YELL THAT YOU ARE LEAVING, AND WILL NOT BE BACK UNTIL BENEDICT DIES AND IS REPLACED BY A NON-HOMOPHOBE.

Or you could eat the cookie and stay, assuming you do not choke on it.

  19. DeeperStill says

My wish for 2013: To see this evil, true wolf in sheep clothing, lowlife nazi-scum curled up in a corner, dying painfully and slowly, for all his crimes against humanity. Sooner rather than later. Let’s just say by February…

    There’s always hope.

  20. andrew says

Fortunately most of the world, especially the Catholic world, pays little real attention to what this medieval remnant has to say. He and his palaces are mostly just tourists attractions.

  21. Geoff says

Please. What would that old thing know about “humanity”. It is the best, most compelling evidence yet that malevolent aliens walk among us. It wouldn’t know a human being if it ate one. Oh, wait…

  22. Honest Abe says

@Diogenes Arktos I agree that many catholics do give the finger to the church. My brother turned when he got married, but my neice calls herself a “recoverng catholic.” My former partner also self identifies the same way along with many more of my friends. My point was that they are not in the position that Santorum, Ryan, Scalia, etal. are. They are making laws on our freedom based on their religious beliefs in direct violation of the Constitution. BTW, I am not anti-catholic. Many years ago, I left a church whose pastor preached against catholics from the pulpit. If you want to be a catholic, fine by me. But please follow the eleventh commandment. “Thou shalt not shove thy religion down my throat.” Also, almost nothing pisses me off more than hypocrisy. Granted, this is not the sole domain of the catholics, most evangelicals are guilty. They use one verse from Leviticus to justify thier homophobia but totally ignore other verses from the same book, ie, eating pork and shellfish which according to the verses is an “abomination” exactly like “a man lying with a man!”

  23. Honest Abe says

@Andrew Unfortunately, this is not the case. During this campaign both Ryan and Santorum were campaigning on thier catholic beliefs, ie, banning contraception, abortion and gay marriage just as the church tells them to. I said that if Santorum got elected, the old fool would have had a new palace located in Washington, D. C.

  25. Richard says

Imagine an old confirmed celibate with a Nazi past and a history of harboring pedophiles putting on a fancy dress to publicly condemn marriage equality. Oh, wait, that just happened!

  26. GW says

Remember when the Church believed that the Earth was the centre of the Universe.

There was this guy called Galileo Galilei, who scientifically proved them wrong.

“Heresy” cried the Catholic Church as they tortured him and kept him under house arrest for 9 years until he died.

Oh, by the way, it is rumored that he was gay as well.

And all this from men who run around in dresses and Prada shoes.

  27. katalia says

Catholics are just as human as anyone else, we all make mistakes. But we do have the commandments, the bible, tradition, and the Church, which Jesus set up to tell us what is right and wrong. Just because people think something is right does it make it right? Was slavery right? We all have things we are attracted to that are not good for us; sins that we fall into again and again. We shouldn’t try to condone them, but continue to fight against them. Oh, and by the way, we live in America we were are supposed to have freedom of speech and freedom of religion, if you don’t agree with the Pope, fine, but don’t go attacking him. He does not hate the people in these life styles, but he does not agree with their actions. There’s a difference, an important difference. And, opinions don’t change truth. If you say a table is a couch, it does not change the table into a couch, its still a table. So go find the truth.

  28. DeeCee10000 says

That poor out-dated dinosaur must be going crazy, knowing people including members of his own cult no longer pay attention to his senile teachings. This moron is obviously way too old to be telling people what they can and can’t do in their own bedrooms. Somebody should push his little pope-mobile off a cliff next time he takes a ride in it.

  29. Frank says

To give sanction to gay marriage/same-sex marriage would be to give approval to the homosexual lifestyle, which the Bible clearly and consistently condemns as sinful. Christians should stand firmly against the idea of gay marriage/same-sex marriage. Further, there are strong and logical arguments against gay marriage/same-sex marriage from contexts completely separated from the Bible. One does not have to be an evangelical Christian to recognize that marriage is between a man and a woman.

  30. Frank says

Note: GOD HATES SIN..not the sinners!!! We are ALL sinners, even the Pope. No person is without sin, that is why Jesus came or we would all be going to hell!!

  31. John Paul says

So the Pope made a comment that upset gays and American pseudo-Catholics. What’s new? Anti-Catholic bigots use this as an excuse to express their hatred towards all thing authentically Catholic (excluding the American CINO), Nothing new there either.
