  1. I don't care how funny it is! Anything that's related to that train wreck, feels like a threat to the collective mental hygiene.
And anything that comes out of Bret Easton Ellis, should we support it at this point, as a community?

Glee as a HIV soup, anyone?

If u want to support Gus Van Sant, go instead see The Promised Land, which is in theatres now and has received decent reviews!

  3. To the Bangladeshi man: do not "hate" the word abuse. It happens among gay relationships. It is as vile and disgusting as abuse in straight relationships. Your ex-boyfriend sounds like a very conflicted Muslim man (or possibly Hindu) whose self-loathing and self-repression is so great that it can only lead to a violent resolution to your relationship. Let him go.

As for your parents, if they love you they will come to accept you. Not all parents love their children. Sometimes, children are simply a commodity, something to prove consummation of a relationship between the parents, to show that they are fulfilling their societal, religious and/or cultural obligations.

As for you personal desires, they are the same as millions of other gay men around the world: to love and be loved; to share an intimacy that encompasses trust, faith and love. Do not put yourself down or what you desire.

It will come. Stay positive. You are a very handsome, very attractive, very sweet man and you deserve every wonderful thing that life and love can bring you.

Good luck to you. And, may your God/Allah bless you and keep you. One thing to realize: God/Allah does not make mistakes. You are the jewel of His creation and He rejoices in the beauty of your existence.

  4. The biggest issue with the former BF is that he is self loathing and extends that to those who wish to be intimate with him. His self loathing comes from all the "usual" sources: religion culture and perceived rejection all around, and more. You are in danger of drowning in the same, although your amazing strength has helped you to realize that you are worthy and to reach out.
Religion and mainly the Abrahamic religions are the greatest sources of homo-negativity and homo-hatred. But religion is also an intensely personal experience if not just followed sheep like because you were born into it. If a personal experience figure out how you as the Jewel [as per jamal49] that you are. If you cannot find that, try to evolve in your thinking to the place in spirituality that embraces you as unique and perfect. I come from this religious fundamentalist path and have come to see salvation/god love as the growing to ever greater perfect evolution through ever expanding consciousness and understanding of the cosmos. Do not stop at the point that the sacred texts stopped. Consciousness ever expands and there is a perfect place for you in it.
Very helpful for me to turn around the culturally and religiously endowed self hate was finding a good therapist to work with for some time to clear out all the corners of your being where that insidious self loathing lurks and hides. Be patient. It took 31 years to build up with lots of sheeple supporting it, so it will take some time and effort to deconstruct that "belief" system.
Also you may want to consider trying to go home to Canada for some projects so you can bathe in and heal in some greater acceptance culturally after the harsh wounding you have been handed by the former BF. Bangladesh will be there when you are better. You will not be as helpful if you are not growing.

And for your parents: you are still the perfection they embraced 31 years ago. That element they reject was there and is natural[read Bruce Bagemihl as he documented homosexulaity in over 500 species that science has looked at so far].

May peace and love and self love come for permanent residence in your perfect being.

  5. 200 Cigarettes is an under-appreciated gem. It's no big film, but a cult-worthy ensemble of wonderfully comic performances. And it even manages to have some real heart. AND a kick-@ss 80s soundtrack!

my friends and i have been quoting it for years.

Costa Concordia? "Mayan apocalypse"? How can that video be taken seriously?

  7. You're kidding about the Lohan movie trailer being funny, right? I couldn't understand half of what the actors said, and the other half sure didn't have any laughs. Am I the only one who didn't get the joke?
