RoadWas Jodie Foster's coming out a step backward for gays and lesbians? "If any harm is done, it's certainly not going to be to Ms. Foster's image or career, but to all of those still closeted — whether 15 or 50 — who may find yet another reason not to come out, lest their way might not be the 'right' way. Sometimes we 'ramble'; sometimes we're 'disjointed'; but it's the raw kernel of honesty that matters — and that I heard in the six-minute speech."

RoadFacebook apologizes after blocking 'Gay Marriage USA' owner: "Murray Lipp, the founder of the Gay Marriage USA Facebook page, which has 300,000 fans, received a notification that the photograph of a gay couple was 'offensive'. The photograph of the marriage of a bishop at a relatively small Pentecostal church movement with his husband resulted in a number of complaints."

MatthewsRoadPETA's Dan Mathews gives long interview, talks about "working the streets" in Rome after high school (work-unfriendly site): "I did it for about a year and a half. When I moved to Rome, I didn’t have European citizenship and I couldn’'t get a regular job. My roommate said, ‘If you walk down a certain street in Rome, cars will stop and you can get in and charge fifty bucks without doing too much.’ Working the streets might sound rough, but it was better than it is today, where people hook up online. Now you have no idea who you are meeting, what they are really going to look like. When you see someone on the street, within ten seconds you can tell if it's a bad move just from their mannerisms. I was able to support myself and live in Italy. I did not want to live in Ronald Reagan’s America."

RoadThe Hollywood Reporter reviews James Franco's Kink: "It's not every doc in which you can hear lines like 'Sorry, we have a gang-bang going on next door' and 'There's a way to step on a cock where you don't hurt it, hon.' There are fewer films still in which you might then see the latter claim in action."

RoadLeonardo DiCaprio to take a "long, long break" from movies.

Kate_middletonRoadArtist Paul Emsley was destroyed over internet criticism of his portrait of Kate Middleton: "It felt like a bit of a witch hunt and people who have not even seen my portrait joined in with what quickly became a circus,. The worst thing is it was not only destructive to me, but particularly upsetting for my two daughters and my wife."

RoadRyan Gosling talks to GQ about fame: “It’s strange. It has a dream-ish quality. Like, you’re in a dream where everybody knows you but you don’t know anymore. It kinda feels like that. I guess the benefit is that it’s kept off the internet. At the end of the day I think that’s probably for the best. It’s a like a minefield for me.”

RoadUrge Obama to speak out against Proposition 8.

RoadHow the NY Daily News covered Stonewall: "Last weekend the queens had turned commandos and stood bra strap to bra strap against an invasion of the helmeted Tactical Patrol Force. The elite police squad had shut down one of their private gay clubs, the Stonewall Inn at 57 Christopher St., in the heart of a three-block homosexual community in Greenwich Village. Queen Power reared its bleached blonde head in revolt. New York City experienced its first homosexual riot. 'We may have lost the battle, sweets, but the war is far from over,' lisped an unofficial lady-in-waiting from the court of the Queens."

  1. Look at any mainstream and even alternative media sources from the mid to late 60s regarding gay issues...they aren't friendly, not even the 'progressive' one, not the NY Times...phuk, not even Mike Wallace.

Welfare moms? In all seriousness, if anybody claims there's no correlation between single mom homes, dependency, and crime including violent crime, gangs, dysfunctional anti-social behavior, than I have a bridge to sell you. YES, of course there is. Go to any prison or jail, ask any street cop or any background, race, ethnicity...ask social workers. But more specifically than 'welfare moms', there's a direct correlation also with simply the breakdown of families in America and elsewhere, children left on their own because mom and dad [if they have a dad] are working or off doing their thing, lack of socialization growing up, and don't forget the amazing level of kids, young adults and adults on drugs [script medications and/or street drugs]. There's little doubt this plays a major role in many violent incidents like mass shootings, murder/suicides, kids wiping out their whole families, and what-not. And then there's our economy, which essentially s*cks. Unfortunately, our economic prospects here and elsewhere have been in real terms on the decline for decades, and that trend isn't changing.

  2. Please don't forget where by far most gun crime and murders involving guns occur, and who and why they occur, including who both perp and victim most often is. I guarantee you most by far of the perps and many victims [not all, there are also many innocent victims] come from pretty predictable family backgrounds...no dad, mom who is or is not working, but always 'collecting', dysfunctional homes, mom who doesn't care, is abusive or who can't control her teenage son [or daughter].

  3. For the umpteenth time - Jodie Foster did not "come out" at the Globes. Listen to her speech - she lambasted society for not valuing privacy. How exactly is that "coming out" ? Besides - she's never hid her sexuality from anyone, so she was never "in". If people think she should wear it on her forehead, then where is all of the faux outrage over Kevin Spacey?

  4. I hope Leonardo never does a film ever again. I just don't get Hollywood's fascination with him -- he's a lousy actor, not that good looking, and always looked too young for the parts he played. Now he looks like an overgrown boy. I guess to each his own tastes, but his emotional range of acting is slim, has just two tones to his voice, and he seems to always play himself in every movie.

    Good riddance!

  5. Obviously there is a correlation between poverty and gang-shootings, and lack of home structure.

However, every mass-shooting and school-shooting I can recall over the past several decades were done by boys from two-parent homes, many of them firmly middle class.

People in glass houses shouldn't shoot bullets.

  8. So Mathews peddled his bum and sold his soul rather than "live in Ronald Reagan’s America"? Somehow the rest of us managed to do so without following his example. A real "role model" this one is... /s

  9. "Welfare moms"? That is rich. Most of the recent gun violence at schools have been done by White teenagers. This comment is so f-ing funny, its sad.

  10. I'm sorry but when someone stands on a stage and says "I came out along time ago...." and gives thanks to her lesbian former lover, guess what? She came out. Just because she didn't say "I'm a lezzie" on that stage doesn't mean she didn't come out. By saying what she did she said "I'm confirming I'm gay -but y'all knew that already." Good grief.
