A look back at today's top stories

GAY ISSUES

There is a heartbreaking story out of Oregon today, where a 15-year old boy has taken his own life after incessant anti-gay bullying. Our hearts go out to his family.

Life must go on as they say and on a bright note it appears that President Obama is continuing to make sure that LGBT rights are present in his new immigration reform plan. Despite whatever John McCain may have to say about it. One Tumblr user shows that sometimes coming out can be a piece of cake and some people in Modesto, CA are doing their best to make sure LGBTQ youth are well cared for. Also it appears that some anti-gay marriage groups are rapidly running out of funds. Awesome!

WINGNUTTERY

Surprise, Surprise. Bryan Fischer has a few asinine remarks about the rumored lift on the Boy Scouts' ban on gays! A Catholic adoption agency in Colorado says that they will not place kids with gay parents because it isn't safe. And despite Whitey Houston's status as a gay icon, her mother would not have been happy had the late singer been a lesbian.

ENTERTAINMENT

The gay teen from New Jersey whose awesome coming out speech went viral last week has been making the talk show rounds. Today he appeared on Anderson and got a chance to meet his idol. Check out new videos from former Drag Race contestants Sharon Needles and William. And just when we thought Chris Brown could not be more insufferable, he compared himself to Jesus and proved us all wrong.

VIDEOS OF THE DAY

No, this is not the inside of some cool new themed gay club. This is what happens when a town is overrun by sea foam. And check out Lawrence O'Donnell's kiss off to Sarah Palin.

  1. "Life must go on as they say and on a bright note..." Really? Really?
    Cliche much?

  2. I'm not sure who "Whitey" Houston is, but I have a feeling he or she had some racist parents.

  3. Sam maybe one of the tragedies here is that stories about young gay kids taking their lives are so numerous that we don't question inane phrases such as "Life must go on as they say, and on a bright note..." I know you're writing a news summary but remember this was a tragic event. Tragic. We have to treat these items differently than we would a flat tire or news of some celebrity's most recent arrest.

  4. SAM - ignore the complainers...it's hard to choose anything to say when someone young has needlessly died. Calling it a "tragedy" is also a cliche. We're sorry of course but that's a ciche as well, one that's true, as most of them are.

  5. sam, my two cents as well, my heart does not go out to these parents, nor to almost ALL of the parents of the children i have read obituaries of over the past 2 years (that window of time when the frequency of very young suicides seemed to get more coverage, and ratcheted up to new levels. in case after case, not all but most, the parents have turned a deaf ear to the pleas for help of their kids and did too little, too late, or did nothing at all.

this case is particularly vexing because the parents STATED that jadin pleaded for home schooling and they did nothing.

I FERVENTLY HOPE THAT EACH NIGHT AS THEY ATTEMPT TO SLEEP THOSE WORDS PLAY IN THEIR HEAD, OVER AND OVER...

  6. What I would like to know is what does the church ... the Southern Baptist whatever they are and Bryan Fischer ... why do people ask these people their opinions on things such as the boys scouts. I was a scout, yes there is some religious aspects to that... but it is not a blatant thing that you are religious or that you partake. I am sick of them asking Bryan Fisher opinion... he needs to mind his own God damned business!! scouting can be great!! and removing all of the discrimination is key to that and a value ... and not just against gay people, against anybody who is different!! seriously!!
