Alaska Republicans Literally Laugh At Idea Of Civil Unions: VIDEO

AlaskaHouse

Alaska's Republican-led House Majority Caucus really gave had themselves a good laugh on Friday, when Mark Miller from the Juneau Empire asked if their upcoming initiatives include civil unions or domestic partnerships to same-sex couples.

No, House Leader Lance Pruitt said after overcoming his giggles, of course they have no such plans. Civil unions are an issue Pruitt and company wouldn't deign discuss, and it's laughable to even suggest they would debate things that "happen in people's bedrooms."

Isn't that funny? The people leading a state don't care about equality because they think being gay is just about sex? What a riot!! I'm slapping my knee!

Watch the video, via Alaska Commons, AFTER THE JUMP. It's disgusting, but thankfully it's also short.

  1. The Republicans are the American Nazi Party. They are nothing but totalitarians.

  2. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I please present you with the true unabashed face of the GOP.

No matter their conciliatory statements after losing the election, no matter how much some from the party try to lean center, it is beyond their control, members of the GOP are divided in two:

    - Those who think that only the white Christian (supposed) straight man shall inherit the American soil, while of course, the non-white, non-straight shall work hard to pay taxes the benefit of the GOP.

    - And those who are masochistic blind-to-the-death idiots. Those who try to convince you (and themselves) that GOP is all inclusive. We know them, and pity them. For those would never realize that they are not any part of the GOP than the rest of us are, and are simply puppets to suit that ridiculous GOP purpose.

Really sad. When you think of the LGBT community in Alaska watching this while the rest of the states are given at least a fighting chance to gain equal rights. I wanted to say give Alaska back to Canada, but that state would then have to become LGBT friendly in a nanosecond.

In my mind it's not my knee I'm slapping. And I'm also saying "shnap out of it!"

  12. While reading this i was hopeful that they were laughing at the idea of civil unions because they are pushing for full on marriage. Needless to say I was disappointed.

  14. Does anyone think it odd how many times he said "We are not talking about it", "that was not in our discussion," etc. ? He kept repeating it over and over... like he was either embarrassed or overly-determined to make sure NO SINGLE LIVING ALASKAN would think for a second they would even consider discussing civil unions or partnerships. It just seemed so odd.

  15. There is a part of me that likes that Republicans think this way. Obama will continue to push through bills that support us and he'll easily segue to Hillary in "16.

I guess the Repubs in Alaska can't read!:

  16. Alaska _never_ belonged to Canada. Before it became a US state it belonged to Russia. It was the Alaska Purchase https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Purchase . You really shouldn't sleep during your American history class.

Andy, you need to find a fix for your comments that repeat as many as four times.

  17. Mr. Jindal's remark seems appropriate here. This is another example of the Stupid Republicans. They have such a tin ear for things that really work against their success in the political arena. They are so fundamentally incompetent that they don't recognize when their self inflicted pratfalls are the reason they are losing elections. They didn't need to humiliate themselves with such apparent bigotry here. They just can't restrain themselves.

  18. Love this.

Don't worry GOProuders, you can still fap to Slick Willy signing DOMA (ohh, Clinton signed it, ooooh, ooooh, yesss!)

  20. As an Alaskan, all I can say is thanks to all of those fighting in states where it is now legally recognized and the last week of June us gays in Alaska are going to get the last laugh.

  22. Aguita, study your American history. Alaska was purchased by Sec'y of State, William Seward in 1867 from the Russian Empire. It went through various names before finally being known simply as the Alaska Territory. It came into the Union in 1959 followed by Hawaii.

Regardless, I hope everyone, including our reprobate GoProuders and LogCabinettes, see this video. If there is ever a reason to oust the GOP from power in the federal government in 2014, then this is it.

This interview shows the GOP in the security of knowing that they are electorally untouchable. Alaska used to be a fairly libertarian state until the mid-1980s, when evangelicals and other malcontents began to take over the Alaska State Republican Party, turning it into a nightmarish version of the Reich Wing of the Republican Party.

It's time to put every last Republican in this country and especially in Alaska on notice. No more using LGBT people as scapegoats and worthy of ridicule because we clamor for full civil equality.

Get rid of the Republicans. By whatever means necessary.

  23. @AKCHRIS - Is something happening in Alaska in the last week of June, or do you mean the Supreme Court? If you're banking on a Prop 8 decision that will affect Alaska, you might want to have a backup plan. There are a variety of possible outcomes in that case, and the one you're looking for is a 50-50 shot, at best.

  24. @Jamal,
It is the Supreme Court and there are many potential outcomes. And one of them is that these clowns will be eating crow. I believe in Olson and Boies.

  25. And I believe in President Obama's strategy for LGBT equality. It's worked pretty damn well so far.
