Vatican Issues Denial Of 'Gay Lobby' Reports

6a00d8341c730253ef017ee6b20269970d-300wiEarlier this week, two Italian newspapers, The Panorama weekly and The Repubblica, both reported that Pope Benedict had resigned from his post due to "various lobbies, including a gay lobby." The Vatican has now responded - and they are none too pleased with the reports and the Italian media.

The Guardian reports:

The Vatican secretariat of state said in a statement: "It is deplorable that as we draw closer to the time of the beginning of the conclave … that there be a widespread distribution of often unverified, unverifiable or completely false news stories that cause serious damage to persons and institutions."

According to The AFP, which calls today's statement by the Vatican "unusual," Catholic Church spokesman Federico Lombardi has also commented calling the reports "gossip, disinformation and sometimes calumny."

The Pope will officially step down this Thursday.

  2. A little ironic that the major world institution that propagated discrimination, intolerance and bigotry against minorities must now defend itself against its own sins. On the other hand it is sad that their corruption will now tarnish all of their good works.

  3. I think we can put this one in the file drawer next to Ahmadinejad's claim that there are no gays in Iran. It's not quite the same, but the mindset behind it reflects the same eerie delusion.

  4. in other words, we can neither deny nor confirm.

  5. I, too, hate widespread distribution of often unverified, unverifiable or completely false stories that cause serious damage to persons. But such is the result of the Bible and religion.

  6. Aww. Teeny little island of rank discrimination, lawlessness, and despicable scapegoating of innocents, for their own criminal behavior and disgusting calumny hurled at entire populations who haven't done anything wrong, is all butthurt they can't clean up their own mess or act with any integrity. Break out the world's smallest violin so we can all enjoy their crocodile tears!

  7. Well played Rick in Cincinnati. Very well played :)

I'm also curious about this "gay lobby." I would have thought it would be the "gay narthex." Or perhaps "gay vestibule."

  9. Federico Lombardi is the Vatican's Baghdad Bob.

"How dare you publish things we can't deny!"

    That dog didn't bite you.
    It's not my dog.
    I don't own a dog.

  10. Sew the wind, reap the whirlwind, you lying perverted catholic maggots.

The chickens are home to roost, and they're raining down excrement on your fancy vestements.

Look your maker in the eye and you'll see NOTHING.

  11. How the "gay lobby" can force the resignation of a pope is up for wild speculation I suppose.

  12. I linked to the AFP story. The Catholic Church has lost all connection to reality. This is an institution in its death throes.

  13. @JAMAL49 - One can only hope.

  14. The gay lobby storyline was simply sci-fi, if there were really a gay lobby with real influence in the Vatican, their policies towards gays would be very different

  15. The Roman Catholic Church is CURSED. This world-wide criminal organization is so far removed from any real association with the spirit and message of Jesus' teachings, as to be beyond help. It doesn't matter who the next pope will be, he's also cursed.

  16. Now they are saying that it's a planted story just to influence the Conclave into electing a Pope who will clean up the Vatican paedophiles.

I hope they elect an extreme evangelical Pope........way to go !

  18. I really hate the use of gays or gay sex as some sort of confirmation of something rotten in Denmark.

These child molesting collaborators can go to hell in a flaming hand basket!

  19. Oh, Catholics...in 30 years saying "I'm a Catholic" will have as much validity as saying I'm a wicca.

  20. Religion makes me laugh. Seriously, think about a society without religion..yes, it would be delightful...but what about the comic relief religion provides us?

  21. They believe in things that go against science, are glorified mythology, and slap science in the face. Do you really expect these Bible thumpers to have an ounce of rational thought in their brain?

  23. In my lifetime, anytime I met someone who shoved their religion down my throat..I soon realized it was a cover up for some really rotten acts they were committing behind closed doors. And I'm a firm believe in that, for many, religion is a facade to blanket some of their horrific deeds behind closed doors.
