Gay Adult Film Actor Wilfried Knight Has Died

Gay adult film actor Wilfried Knight has died, his friends in the business Matthew Rush and Chris Yosef confirmed this evening. Knight began his career as part of Lucas Entertainment and appeared in dozens of films.

KnightKnight's death, the details of which have not emerged, comes just weeks after his partner Jerry Enriquez committed suicide.

Knight wrote about Enriquez's death in a lengthy, emotional blog post dated March 3:

And i was in love, and so was my partner. He let me be who i wanted to be. He did not agree with everything i was but he let me be. He gave me the best 8, almost 9 years of my life. And this amazing guy committed suicide by hanging last week, after fighting for so long for us to stay together.

RIP.

UPDATE: Falcon and Raging Stallion studios released a statement:

"Born in 1977 and growing up in Champagne, France, the 35-year-old actor appeared in over 10 Raging Stallion productions in the last four years. Originally an exclusive for Lucas Entertainment, Wilfried became the first-ever joint Lucas/ Raging Stallion exclusive. He was a consummate performer and a joy to have on set, which was why he was chosen to appear in the studio's major releases. He contributed to the success of the biggest industry hits from Raging Stallion, including Cowboys, Giants, Tales of the Arabian Nights and Focus/Refocus.

"His skills and talent didn't go unrecognized; he won the 2010 GayVN Award for Performer of the Year, and he took home the 2011 Grabby for Best Versatile Performer.  A man of stature, standing 6'2" and weighing in at nearly 200 pounds, Knight had a huge presence, a gracious air, and a caring disposition. His charm and humor did not go unnoticed. All of these traits are what made him a superstar of the industry.

"While the details of his death are not yet know, Knight recently lost his partner of nine years to suicide.

"Chris Ward, Falcon/Raging Stallion Studios President offered these sentiments about his friend: 'Wilfried's death is a blow to our studio and to our industry. There was no nicer man. We have all lost someone very special. I can only say that personally I am devastated. Wilfried was a friend and I shall miss him. All of us at Falcon and Raging Stallion Studios hope he is at peace, and our thoughts are with his family and friends. I know that his good friend and director, Tony Dimarco, is also greatly saddened by this tragic loss.'"

The studio also issued this collective expression of loss:

"We grieve deeply at the passing of Wilfried Knight. We offer our most genuine thoughts of sympathy and warm wishes to Wilfried's family, friends and loved ones. He was an extraordinary talent and a special man who brought joy to our hearts. Wilfried, we celebrate your life and your accomplishments, and hope that you rest in peace. You will be missed greatly."

  1. What is it with gay men and suicide? Committing suicide left and right. Do strong-minded gay men exist?

  3. and i care because? sorry but porn stars are not people to be admired while its sad he has died it's not like it wasn't totally unexpected these types of people generally have mental issues, and/or drug issues.

  4. Um Ms Billy Crystal, Gay Porn actors, not the common variety of Gay man make the suicide obit list. You're still with us. May I conclude you have either a strong skull or a strong mind? I do tend to agree with you let me say. Are these big burly handsome sexy Gay men so fragile of mind and heart that the lose of a loved on spell doom? It's sad indeed. But we all face such hardships.

  5. Poor guy. The gay porn industry should try to take care of their own. Ideally mental health would be available to all but unfortunately that is not the world we live in. And suicide victims should not be labeled as weak minded..they suffer from mental illness. Implying weakness is not a way to help people who suffer from it or further a constructive conversation.

  6. yes they are weak death is easy living is whats hard we all could just take the easy way out and off ourselves but we don't because we have stronger minds, those who can't survive in this world are not fit to be in it, survival of the fittest it's natures way.

  7. I agree, this is non=news. I am sure the majority of the fans that get their daily dose of gay news gets it here at Towleroad, did not know or care to know about him when he was alive. I read parts of this story... and looked at the comments. Sadly, the comments that always showed up on google or web news are extremly bigoted and stupid and are making their voices heard here, too.

I'm looking for an early spring to spend my time with... until then I seldom read a whole column on the majority of so called gay news...

  8. Isaac

Uhm, no industry takes care of their own unless your a white Banker CEO

Thus why unions exist. Sex workers unite and unionize. Health care including mental health care

but hey, this crazy socialist thinks prostitution should be legalized, regulated, and taxed ...so till am God Emperor of Universe, porn stars will not find it easy to get health care/ mental health care

  9. Meth has been a systemic poison to the gay community since at least the 1980's. People do really stupid stuff because of it and behind it.

Have I thought of suicide? Of course. But frankly, there was so much a responsible person should do before ruining the lives of their parents, family, and friends. You have to clean your house, go through your things, tidy up your paperwork, and then go in a way that will be the least bother to other people. Or perhaps those things only occur to people who aren't going to commit suicide. Maybe the ones who do just don't give a damn about the mess they leave behind.

I have no patience or compassion with this.

  10. Wow, really sad. No cause of death has been given - so not prudent to jump to conclusions.

    I will however say this:

    1. Porn is a job. It's legal. I have no tolerance for people who put down others, especially because of the way they earn a living. There are plenty of Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Ministers, Priests, etc. etc. who have issues, whether it be drug abuse or depression. Just because you have a career in porn doesn't make you damaged.
    2. People who commit suicide have issues - whether it be mental illness or a horrible terminal disease. In the case of mental illness, it's not appropriate to judge. Mental illness is an epidemic in this country and is under treated. Making negative comments about people who are sick is despicable.
    3. It amazes me just how many people who comment on these boards are idiots and cowards - or as Rachael Maddow pointed out - are trolls.

  11. If you read Wilfried's blog post detailing what he and his dead partner (who committed suicide around a week ago) you would see that this wasn't a "porn lifestyle" death, as in he wasn't a circuit boy who self-destructed. He and his partner were forced out of the country due to DOMA, his BF found a job in Canada and he was seemingly discriminated against there too.

Yes, the porn industry does have it's fair share of bad apples and that cannot be ignored, but at the end of the day, they are gay/bisexual men who are committing suicide. They're one of us. And whether you like porn or not, there are very real reasons why it has a major influence in larger gay culture. Porn is one of the few if not the only way kids, or guys sexually questioning/confused/struggling, can really see two guys have sex and make love and see what they connect with in a natural way.

RIP Wilfried. Heart goes out to his loved ones.

  13. How puritanical to say that this is not news. I'll take you at your word that you've never seen his films. Fine—your loss. But if a gay novelist whose books you'd never read had died, would you be complaining about it being covered here—to say nothing of name calling? The idea that gay men could be so squeamish about porn as to actually troll a suicide victim is mind boggling.

    Posted by: Ian | Mar 11, 2013 8:56:02 PM

  14. @ian we should celebrate the lives of actual productive members of society like actors, doctors, novelists, and political leaders not a whore. if that's your only talent in life then an ambiguous death is rightly deserved.

  15. I always find it ironic that on a gay blog that gay/bi men have an issue with anything oriented towards men and sex. Anything. There are always a few.

Anyway, David and Lee, neither one of you have any idea what it truly means to be suicidal. Now contemplation, but actually suicidal. You have no sense of the world and you are completely removed from any sort of normal thought processes and emotional processes. It's incredibly hard to fix a broken heart.

Suicide is going to continue being an issue in the community as long as homophobia is as rampant as it is in our society. The job for us as a community is NOT to shame people who are on the edge but to instead help them and actually, you know, be a community. Reach out to the people who need it most instead of complaining when they kill themselves.

  16. @lee "productive members" is subjective at best. Who are you to say another individual isn't a "productive member" in society?

  17. I just love how everyone on here has assumed drugs or mental illness because he was a porn star. Hmmm ... is that also why all of these gay teens have committed suicide recently? Shame on any of you who do nothing but troll these sites looking for tragedy and do nothing but spew hateful, ad hominem, rhetoric in hopes of nothing more than soliciting someone to pay attention to your vulgarity.

This, in effect, is an obituary and as such is not the place for your heinous commentary. I hope everyone on here who posts such nasty negativity, in their own deaths or demise, reap the just rewards of people discussing all of the wrongs they may have done in life and all of their assumed problems.

Is it really to much to think per chance he died of a broken heart or lost the will to live after the loss of a loved one. This frequently happens in many types of relationships. No, though, just because he did porn it must be for the worst reasons possible. You are disgusting human beings who, for sure, will be no loss upon your own deaths.

  18. I never saw his films or really know who he was; however, he was someone's brother, son, lover, uncle, friend, etc. Such callous judgements and nasty remarks. Your bitterness is sometimes a reflection of your self-hatred. Try to be kind. A lot of people face a lot of adversity. We all have our own private demons and troubles. I wish they could have found help.

If you can't say something nice--say nothing.

  19. mar productive members of society work to better it and leave a lasting legacy, having sex on film is not productive nor does it move society forward.

  21. chad suicide is weakness think i've had it easy? i haven't grew up gay in the south and while most people are fine with it some are not instead of being a drama queen about it however i simply disconnected myself from those people who were jerks and if they still bothered me made them pay with some simple revenge this is how strong people handle these types of situations not offing yourself.

  22. Jimmi, you took the words right out of my mouth. RIP, Wilfried Knight.

Posted by: Jimmy Geist | Mar 11, 2013 9:13:34 PM

  23. These comments are disgusting.

    1. We do not even know if Wilfried Knight committed suicide.

    2. Even if he did, there is nothing disgraceful about it. Suicide is a serious thing. How many of you have picked up a gun and put it to your head, ready to shoot? Pulling that trigger is the hardest part. There have been many incidences where there have been signs of the suicide victim struggling due to second thoughts. Even during the suicide, a great deal of will power is needed. The person has to be absolutely convinced that life is far worse than death. You are not the victim, you do not know what he/she went through. So don't judge!

    3. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the porn industry. And if you're upset about prostitution, porn is just prostitution with a camera. People have this false idea that because the actors have sex so much on screen, they are sex-addicts. They have sex so much on screen because IT'S THEIR JOB! Sure some of the actors enjoy it far more than others but it shouldn't disgrace the whole industry. So I'm glad you guys felt the need to tarnish a poor man's name just because of his job, it really shows nice character.

  24. broken heart really? fact is he offed himself plain and simply was to weak to control his emotions and used a gun, pills, rope, or whatever means he did it with.

    Posted by: lee | Mar 11, 2013 9:15:50 PM

  25. This man was a human being. He had a family and loved ones. He had fans like any other kind of celebrity. He will be missed by many I'm sure.

At this point we don't know the cause of his death. He did battle cancer recently and he did lose his partner recently. One can't assume it was suicide, but if it was it is equally as sad. People from all walks of life commit suicide and to judge him for being a "sad" porn star is unfair. He did not hurt anyone and he brought joy to many.

    R.I.P. Wilfred.
