Belinda Carlisle's Gay Son James Duke Mason Stars in an Upcoming Noir Thriller with a Gay Twist: VIDEO

Mason

The teaser for James Duke Mason's Kickstarter-funded noir thriller Disappear Here is out.

Paper writes:

...the film is directed by Matthew Mishory, produced by Mason's father Morgan Mason (producer of Sex, Lies & Videotape who got back into the business to produce it) and centers around a young actor (played by Mason) who becomes embroiled in a blackmail conspiracy to derail a senator's presidential campaign. The full feature will be shot later this year. Mason told us back in the day that the movie is "going to serve as a catalyst for making a difference for the openly gay actors in Hollywood and trying to shed some light on those issues...that have never been exposed in this way before."

Mason has some experience in the 'openly gay actor' category. You may recall his 'Trailblazer' campaign which had the mission of creating a more accepting environment for openly LGBT entertainers in Hollywood.

He also gives us a little exclusive. His mom, Belinda Carlisle, hase a cameo in the film.

  1. According to the referenced Kickstarter site for this film, actor/producer James Duke Mason and his executive producer-father Morgan surpassed their $25K fund-raising goal by 9% back on August 30, 2012. Therefore, it appears this film is a "go". Congrats!

  2. He is the grandson of the great actor James Mason. I think I see a bit of a resemblance.

  3. The trailer.... doesn't look good. The production values seem kind of amateurish.

Don't get me wrong, Mason seems like a great young man and I hope he succeeds but maybe a self-produced movie wasn't the best way to go.

  4. Looks intriguing...

  5. Is the irony intentional that they cast a guy who can't act in the role of someone who can?

  6. The trailer looks interesting. I'll have to see the movie once it comes out.

  10. J. Duke Mason can do no wrong. He has been a gay activist since high school, his Mom is a gay icon and he is a super sweet and super SMART guy. Props to whatever he does.

  11. Looking forward to this, seems like a compelling story with passable acting, good production, tightly put together. A huge step above the typical psuedo-hip-twenty-somethings-sitting-around-whining-about-their-clueless-lives indie drek I've seen lately.

  12. This director is talented. And JDM holds his own in the trailer. But can Belinda still sing after all the wonder-powder?

    Posted by: GT75 | Apr 14, 2013 4:55:52 AM

  13. 1. Production values. It is made for under 50 grand. That's craft services for a week on a studio film. So what do yo expect? CG aliens?

    2. BC can still sing. Witness last years triumph sellout at the Hollywood Bowl with the go's and new solo single, "sun."

    3. The movie is not "self-produced". Morgan Mason, his father, produced movies like the indie hit, Sex Lies and Videotape and was an agent for many years-not exactly a neophyte.

Everyone is free to make comments and have opinions, but I do wish people were more informed when they did. Hate the trailer, fine, it's all subjective, but know your facts!

  14. This is...very sexy. And so is the guy with the beard at the end. And the Mustang GT.

  15. @brad: agree on bearded hunk. I'd go see this. Finally a gay film that's not a bunch of shirtless dudes at the gym or hanging out with fat girls in high school.
