  3. Poor Matt Moore. Is he lying to himself, to us or all of the above?

  4. The bad makeup and especially the disgusting cigar are enough for me not to support her. I've seen Rosie O'Donnell come off better. It's not cute.

  5. Quinn is a fraud and if it's between her and a straight republican, the GOP is getting my vote. She is not the one to break this female or LGBT NYC mayor barrier. She's exactly as the image in this article depicts: a cigar chomping, back room deal making, party boss that would make the worst of Tammany Hall quake in their boots. Of course, most of the readers of this won't have a clue what Tammany Hall is so google it, children. You need to know your history not only of this city but of the background of this shady, shady lady.

  9. But wait... wasn't it implied that Russell Tovey's character on Doctor Who was gay? He was last seen at a bar being picked up by John Barrowman, right? Otherwise... He's kind of adorable, IMO.

  11. Matt Moore, you don't have to actually join Grindr or post a pic to see who's on Grindr. I have the app but have never joined. You're story is getting less believable the more you talk.

  12. Interesting comments from Tennis' Sam Querry and any gay male tennis players. I always suspect he's gay. Talented player. Could be much better I think with a better coach.

  13. Um, you all realize that's an illustration and not actually a picture of Quinn with a cigar, right?

The article, however, is actually pretty fair, and it reveals her opposition to be loud but relatively tiny.

At 8.2 million people, New York City has more residents than 39 states. It's probably also got nearly that many agendas. Governing it must be Herculean feat. Quinn has done a pretty damned good job balancing what's necessary, right and possible. Of course she will never please everyone, because that's not at all possible.

The hook for stories like this one is that a fraction of her opponents are themselves part of the LGBT community. But I'm not sure why that's surprising in an LGBT community as political and politically fractious as New York's.

Law suits. They're leeches who sue their victims. They are wicked, wicked people. Ironic, considering that many Christian denominations consider lawsuits sinful.

  19. @Westboro
They'd almost have to have funding coming from somewhere else. It always surprises me that you don't see other churches condemning their 'protests'. They got scared off of the Boston Marathon funerals because some unions there called for a show of force to countermand them.

Anyone from NYC with insight into this race?

A Lesbian mayor of the largest city in the US would be huge but I can't seem to get over the bad feeling about how she ignored term limit laws to help Bloomberg get a third term. Bloomberg is an ally ... but still.

Another thought was that because Quinn is family and Mayor of NYC is such a high profile position she really better have her act together. I guess that would be me holding her to a higher standard ... but there you are.

  20. I think Jason Collins is around 33-34, which meant that when Matthew Shepard was killed in '98, he would've been 18 or 19, and also a young college student or just about to start college, just as Shepard was also a college student. So it's not surprising that that incident affected him profoundly--I was in my early 30's, and it rattled me for several days/weeks. (I actually had a T-shirt made up with Shepard's face and a poem about him and still wear it on October 12th, the day he died, and December 1st, his birthday.)

As a friend of mine once commented in a possibly indelicate but not inaccurate way, "Matthew Shepard's death affected me even more than September 11th did--because it was personal. It was hatred specifically targeted at people like me, and it could still happen to me much more easily than an act of terrorism." Obviously, not everyone will agree, but I've never forgotten that explanation.

  21. When it comes to animals humans are the most disgusting scavangers on the planet.

    Posted by: greenfuzz | May 1, 2013 8:08:33 PM

  22. Poachers that live in tin shacks and live on pennies a day can hardly be blamed for wanting a chance at freedom from oppressing poverty.
The real criminals here are the Chinese, Thai and other Asian markets that make the demand for rhino horn so lucrative. Our governments need to take a stand and publicly denounce them for their horrific treatment of animals; not only are rhinos being decimated but elephants for ivory and dogs, cats, rabbits, and almost anything else with fur are skinned alive for trade in the "exotic fur" market.
And save your "you're a racist" comments. This is a well documented reality and has nothing to do with racism towards asians.

  23. I'm not trying to undermine the situation, but that was the last rhino killed in that national park, not in all of Mozambique.

And D.R.H., yes you're absolutely correct, and the fact that China has moved into Africa so forcefully is a major cause.

  24. Wasn't Tovey's character in Ashes to Ashes gay as well?

    Posted by: AladinSane | May 1, 2013 11:19:42 PM

  25. Russell Tovey is freakin' adorable. And guys, he said he was the first openly gay actor to have played ONLY straight roles--not that he was the the first openly gay actor to have HAD straight roles. And even if he's wrong, big deal. The point is, he wants to make sure that when he plays a gay role, it's going to have a positive impact. That's admirable. Oh, and did I mention he's freakin' adorable? (Okay, I might be biased... but just look at him.)
