Rick Santorum Invited Back to Michigan High School After Cancellation

Yesterday I reported that Rick Santorum was outraged after Dr. Thomas Harwood, the superintendent of Grosse Pointe High School in Michigan, canceled an appearance because Santorum hadn't provided a copy of his speech in advance. Santorum freaked out, saying his "free speech rights" had been violated.

Rick_santorumSantorum has now been invited back, ClickonDetroit reports:

Harwood says parents will now be able to sign a permission slip to decide if students can attend the event to hear Santorum speak.

This compromise was reached between the school administration and the South student club Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), the event organizers.

The district says students participating in YAF raised $18,000 to bring Santorum to Michigan.

  1. Nobody on earth is worth $18,000 a speech. This whole affair sends the wrong message in so many ways that merely canceling it would have failed to address the problem at all.

I'll bet they have a wonderful football/sports team there too.

What is wrong with America's schools? If they can't manage to do a better job than the crackpots homeschooling, why even bother.

    whatcha so scared of, sugarpie?

p.s. this has nothing to do with the first amendment. this message has been brought to you by a canadian who apparently knows more about your Constitution than you do.

  3. He should not be paid anything. It should be completely voluntary with NO repercussions and no record for not attending or walking out. Maybe he will see how his message is accepted by youth.

  4. Why he is so eager to speak to 12 graders? He can't seem able to find a spot in a university. Not even the Liberty University willing to lower their standard (if there is any) by inviting a moron?

  5. Students themselves should be given the option to do something else during Santorum,

Further, a competing speaker should be provided to balance out his nonsense, for those who do attend.

  7. $18,000.00 for a speech, to a High School Assembly, that he has said in advance he just ad libs, no prepared text. That is more money than a minimum wage worker earns working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks a year.

  8. Here's hoping that every normal thinking man, woman, couple, child, nanny, brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter, cousin, aunt, uncle, mom, dad, grandfather, grandmother or friend will picket the event. And everyone must google search the following..."Frothy Santorum".
