Grumpy Cat Gets Movie Deal: VIDEO

Grumpy Cat, the feline face that inspired many a meme, is heading to the big screen, Deadline reports:

GrumpycatBroken Road’s Todd Garner and Sean Robins, and Grumpy Cat’s reps (manager Ben Lashes and rep Al Hassas) have teamed up to produce and assemble a package for a Garfield-like feature film with the famous frowning feline at the center. Here, Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) will be given the power of speech. How much movie potential can a Grumpy Cat have? Well, she has been scratching at the door of fame in a big way. Among the indicators: Grumpy Cat was named the most influential cat of 2012 by MSNBC, a most important Meme of 2012 by Mashable, and has appeared on such TV shows including Today, Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Anderson Cooper Live, VH1 Morning Buzz and The Soup.

  1. Grumpy better move fast because Princess Monster Truck is on her tail.

  2. Is whoever is behind this movie not aware of the inherent transient nature of Memes? By the time a movie is made the meme will have blown over and nobody will want to see it.

That is assuming anyone wants to see it in the first place, I love grumpy cat memes, but a whole movie? No, just no.

  4. Still a better love story than Twilight.

  5. I think Grumpy Cat would be first to complain about such a movie.

  6. That is one ugly cat… I'd be grumpy too

  7. I love and adore Grumpy Cat. So much. But this, this . . . I just . . . It's so . . .

*Sigh* It'll be an hour and a half of Grumpy Cat on water skis jumping over a shark.

Forget the movie. Have Tardar Sauce (Grumpy Cat) guest-star with Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec and call it a day. Because admit it -- That's something we ALL want to see.

  8. We whore ourselves. We whore our children. We whore our pets. We whore our ideas…

There's really just no end to whoring, is there? There's nothing we value so much we won't put a price tag on it and thereby guarantee it has no value at all.

The good news is that Grumpy Cat herself will remain oblivious, secure in her irascible feline inscrutability.
