Police Release Footage of 8 Knicks Fans Wanted in Violent Attack on Gay Couple: VIDEO

Knicks_vid

Earlier this week I reported on an attack on a gay couple that took place on Sunday afternoon near Madison Square Garden. The attackers were wearing NY Knicks gear (a game was happening at the time) and a bystander provided police with some cell phone images of one of the attackers.

GaycrimeNick Porto and his partner Kevin Atkins were assaulted by a group of men using homophobic slurs as they walked arm-in-arm on Eighth Avenue at 34th street after having brunch.

On Tuesday, police released a photo of one of the suspects and now they have released video showing seven others they want to question regarding the attacks.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.

  2. I wonder why it was reported that they couldn't have been caught if there was video of them? o.o

  4. Someone is bound to recognize the group. Hopefully they'll follow through and report them to authorities. It'd be great to see these schmucks prosecuted for the crime.

  5. Although my first thought was "Why did the person that was recording this not stop the fight?", my very next thought was "Thank God there are people that think quickly enough to catch pictures!" Thank you, to whoever caught them on video! It's only a matter of time...

  6. Just a few days ago the police were telling us that there was NO way that they would be able to track down the perps. Yeah, NO way but maybe to release a PHOTOGRAPH of the fuckers! NOTHING would have been done had this not garnered media attention. In some ways we're still fighting Stonewall on a daily basis.

And I seem to remember that the original report identified the attackers as being black. Perhaps my eyesight isn't what it used to be but the men in that photo look hispanic.

  7. Offer a reward. Guarantee someone would turn them in for cash money.

  9. its so funny, not to try to bring back bad memories, but lets see 2 men with very pixelated pictures (Boston) were captured in within days cuz they attacked several ppl, (lets say straight) and this group with a video, were you can see their faces almost in HD, and cant be captured???? come on! nypd you are better than this!

  10. I remember the days when this would've been swept under the rug but I just saw CBS news reporting on this and it seems like the police are making some progress in the case. When police say there's probably no way anyone would get caught it's shooting from the hip at that time. When evidence emerges there's movement on the case, that's logical. When there's evidence that goes ignored then we, as a community, should raise our voices in protest. Personally, I don't buy that no CCTV cameras caught any footage of the attack but the investigation is ongoing. I truly hope these "people" are caught soon & punished fully for their crime.

  16. "6 Hispanics and 2 blacks."

    And 1 dumb pig.

Have you ever seen a photograph of Victor Cruz? Or the anti-Gay politician, Rueben Diaz? One can be both Hispanic and Black.

  18. And 1 dumb Derrick. Pig misused the term Hispanic and caused me to do the same. For the thugs in the video the term is Latino.

  20. As another poster said, thankfully someone was smart enough to take some photos of the crime. As with Boston, it is just a matter of time until they are identified.

  21. @Derrick: the original report said it would be more difficult to track them down given the number of people dressed similarly. That statement was probably made before the police spokesman knew about the video - it might not have been turned over to the police instantly, and someone would have to go over it with witnesses to make sure the guys shown in the picture were not innocent bystanders.

  23. NYPD: Get these thugs; Immigration Authorities: if immigrants, deportation, why should my tax dollars feed them in prison.

  24. The NY Knicks lost that day. They probably beat up some gays just to express their loss of manliness to the Pacers.
