Veteran UFC Fighter Nate Diaz Suspended for 'Faggot' Slur

UFC President Dana White has suspended veteran fighter Nate Diaz for calling another fighter a "faggot" on Twitter, a slur Diaz's manager said wasn't homophobic because "faggot" is slang "for being a little bitch," FOX Sports reports:

DiazDiaz dropped the offensive remark in a Twitter message in which he took up for fellow fighter Pat Healy, who earlier this week was stripped of his win and $130,000 in bonus money for testing positive for marijuana at UFC 159 last month in Newark, N.J. That fight against Jim Miller will go down as a no contest...

...Mike Kogan, Diaz’s manager, told FOXSports.com that his client’s tweet wasn’t homophobic and was meant purely as an attack on Bryan Caraway, a fighter on the UFC 159 card who was awarded Healy’s Submission of the Night bonus worth $65,000. Diaz apparently took issue with Caraway’s lobbying on Twitter.

“Apologizing for what?” Kogan answered when asked if Diaz regretted the tweet. “He didn’t use that word in that sort of (homophobic) context. It’s a misunderstanding. If people are uneducated, that’s not my (expletive) fault. It’s slang for being a little bitch. The guy goes on Twitter and chases (UFC president) Dana (White) down like a little f** instead of picking up the phone.”

  3. When are these people going to figure out that they don't get to change the definition of words which have universally accepted definitions?

  4. Stupid is, as stupid does. He has NO brain whatsoever. When you use a word to debase another, that word...any word used... is derogatory. Brainless is RIGHT!

  5. They'll learn when they're punished and publicly shamed. Outside of that, men like Mike Kogan have no respect for us as a community so he doesn't care.

  6. I'm definitely going to take the word of a manager and PR guy who can't even speak four words without cursing or using the exact same slur in a derogatory fashion.

  7. Now perhaps Kogan can explain soul music to the ghost of Any Winehouse? Or Royalism to HRM Elizabeth II?

  8. Yeah, that manager clearly has a lot of PR experience.

I find it nearly as annoying that someone was stripped of a win and $130K for smoking pot. Like pot is a performance-enhancing drug?

  9. Kogan brings a new meaning to "dumbfuck"- obviously one too many hits to the head.

  10. Both Diaz & Kogan are inexcusable idiots for not understanding the term "faggot". Perhaps this incident will be a learning experience for them both. However, White is to be commended for taking this stance against bigotry on behalf of the UFC organization.

  11. The Diaz brothers are known as real assholes in the sport on top of being sore losers. They never had any class so who else are they going to surround themselves with?

  12. Wait...the guy was stripped of his Win because he tested positive for Marijuana?! In a FIGHT?! Jeez, they should've given him an extra medal...THAT's aggressive.

  17. His manager's statement is just simply ludicrous. Maybe we should start calling him Humpty Dumpty:

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master—that's all."

  18. I was attacked, and bullied all throughout highschool and growing up for being gay and that word was the catalyst of all the attacks. It's hard and almost inhumane to tell me to not have ANY reaction or flashbacks to those awful days in my life when I hear the word. I just think people don't like to talk about how society is more homophobic than we realize and terms like "that's gay" and "f!g" are part of that.

  19. Yes, the word f-ggot is commonly used because there's a lot of anti gay sentiments with young men. F-ggot being used in various contexts doesn't mean it has different meanings, it means the word is used so often because homophobia amongst youth is so prevalent, that it's taken a lie of it's own but it still equates being gay with being bad in a subtle manner. To ignore that is just to be willfully ignorant.

  20. I love when straight people tell us fag doesn't have to do with gays and gays need to get over it.

I love when white people tell black people "Why do you need a Miss Black America pageant?" you blacks need to get over it.

I love when men tell women that them having an opinion about womans reproductive systems is their entitlement to an opinion and women need to get over it.

It's always the group NOT effected by something who tells others to get over it without any consideration about how it makes said effected group feel.
