Four Young Men Facing Hate Crime Charges After Alleged Anti-Gay Attack in Long Island

Nicholas Bagattallia, Greg Gilbert, Justin Buckley, Shane Buckley

Four men from Long Island's Oceanside neighborhood are now facing possible hate-crime charges after a situation turned violent late Saturday night. Police say that the suspects attacked two other men, and used anti-gay slurs both before and during the attack in Babylon.

According to News 12 Long Island, 18-year-old Nicholas Bagattallia, 20-year-old Greg Gilbert, 17-year-old Justin Buckley, and his brother, 18-year-old Shane Buckley were out celebrating a friend's 21st birthday. The four then happened upon the two victims and reportedly asked them for directions to the nearest train station. It is not yet clear exactly how the situation became violent. However, both victims were subsequently transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where one victim still remains in recovery.

Two of the suspects, Justin and Shane Buckley, are the brother of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Greg Buckley Jr, who was killed in action in Afghanistan last August. Family and attorneys for all four suspects "deny the allegations in their entirety", and maintain that the four victims are actually the true aggressors.

  1. That is supposed to say the 2 victims were the aggressors, right? There are not 2 more victims we haven't heard about?

  2. A typo; ....[that the "two" victims are the true agressors,] I take it was meant to be written.

Yeah, sure, two gay guys aggressors against four. Sure !

  3. Central Islip? I guess there were a few "Islips" in that stretch of the coast back 25 years ago when I worked for Nat. Audubon and lived at the Skully Mansion one summer. I thought the town was just called Islip, NY? I remember it being pretty button down and puckered up.

  4. Family members of the suspects maintain that the victims are actually the true aggressors? So, the family members were present and witnessed the assault or are they playing the "my son is a good boy and not a bigot" card?

  5. Looks like a bunch of closet cases. I grew up on LI and it was totally conservative, barely any bars outside of Fire Island, and it was filled with assholes. Glad I moved to Florida. Hey-wait a minute....

  6. I think we probably need more information before drawing conclusions.

If it turns out that the 4 were gay bashing, why are the parents not held partly resposible to see if they instilled anti-gay values into their kids during their upbringing?

  8. Top, right is total queerbait. Starting the clock now on the gay panic defense that will absolve them of responsibility with little to no proof.

  11. There are tons of bars and restaurants in Babylon, NY. The Courthouse in fact is located in Central Islip, NY which is quite a different spot than the waterfront communities of West Islip, Islip, and East Islip, NY. (Just across the Bay from Fire Island) These knuckleheads decided to flex their muscles and used the wrong words on the two victims. FYI, The two victims are not gay, not that it matters. These animals should have gotten back on the train to Oceanside.
