Russian Sprinter: Nothing Gay About Celebration Kiss, and Such Speculation is a 'Sick Fantasy'

Russiankiss

Shortly after winning gold in the women's 4x400 meter relay at the World Athletics Championships on Saturday, Russian track athletes Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firova kissed one another, setting off speculation that they had done so as a political statement, or perhaps, a personal one.

There was nothing gay about it, according to Rhyziva, the AP reports:

Kseniya Ryzhova, one of the 4 x 400-meter relay winners, said: "The storm of emotions going through us was incredible. And if we, accidentally, while congratulating each other, touched lips, excuse me. We think the whole fuss is more of a sick fantasy not grounded in anything."

  3. That's no accident, not sexual at all, but certainly not an accident as they would have us believe. That's probably how all Russian's have to lie now to keep the government out of their lives.

It's sad their political climate has come to the point that they have to "cover up" something that wasn't even intended to be a statement in Russia.

  4. You know what's a "sick fantasy"? A Russia (or [insert country name here]) that believes (a) it has no LGBT citizens and/or (b) it can't allow displays of its LGBT citizens' humanity. Not only is that sick, it's perverted.

  7. agreed Hey Darlin

probably was more platonic than many thought but the response (more forceful than needed to be) from her probably has more to do with fear of the Russian regime

  8. In a way, these women are right. In our quest for affirmation as gay people, we go looking for shout-outs. We become hyper-observant and over-interpretive to the point where we start looking like fools. Gay blogs don't help the situation.

The woman's comment about it being a sick fantasy is correct. Straight men often put lesbian scenes in their porn, not because they accept same-sex relations but because it titillates them in a vulgar, sexual way.

  10. So, it's "sick?" I thought they were simply celebrating. Now I think two homophobes, bigots, ignoramuses happened to kiss.

  12. well, how is the government supposed to tell the difference between a gay kiss and a "we're just friends congratulating each other" kiss?

More importantly, how are "teh children" supposed to tell the difference?

  13. I have a Russian friend and she openly always states at how shocked she is when she visits Russia and how her friends are horrifically homophobic, discussing very eagerly wanting to beat gay people. And they are all in their early 20s. It's a really sad state of affairs for LGBT there.

  18. Yeah, because teammates always celebrate by "accidentally" giving each other passionate kisses on the lips. She's obviously trying to cover her @$$ so she doesn't get beaten to death.

  20. The girls have now gone on to clarify that not only was it not a demonstration, but they are OFFENDED BY THE SUGGESTION because they are both married, so it was an offense to them and to the sports federation. They don't understand how the idea could have come into anyones head. They are SHOCKED.

sounds like you're speaking from experience..do you feel 'sick' when you see lesbians going at it while watching straight porn..Brian, it might just be 'cause you hate women in general.
