Family Research Council Shooter Gets 25 Years in Prison

Corkins

Floyd Corkins II, who shot a security guard at the Family Rearch Council headquarters in August 2012, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, the AP reports:

Floyd Corkins II was sentenced Thursday. Prosecutors had asked that he spend 45 years in prison. But Corkins’ lawyer said his client was mentally ill when he entered the Family Research Council building and shot and injured a security guard. He says an 11 1/2 year sentence was appropriate. Corkins was carrying 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches during the shooting. He said he planned to smear them in his victims’ faces as a political statement.

23 LGBT groups condemned the shooting in a joint statement shortly after it took place.

  2. shooting resulting in wounding of straight man = 25 years

murder of gay person = maybe 5

murder of unarmed black teenager = acquittal

    *puke*

  3. Kiwi not murder when acquitted first of all and no state gives only 5 years for murder only manslaughter big difference between the two. Try learning some basic criminal law first before opening your trap.

  4. oh, my bad. what i meant to say is "kill a gay man in cold blood and it'll be considered manslaughter, because you totally didn't intend to murder harvey milk after you walked down the hallway to his office whilst reloading your gun because you shot Mayor Moscone", then you get five years.

    my mistake.

    and zimmerman murdered trayvon martin.

  5. Lee--The point Kiwi made is valid, and the distinctions you make are basically irrelevant. Race and sexual orientation weigh heavily in the punishment doled out in our judicial system. I work in the courts and see it all the time.

  6. it's the same with cannabis, actually:

do you know what the difference between "possession" and "intent to traffic" is?

it ain the amount. it's the colour of your skin.

  7. No it's the evididence available race baiters like you are a shame to the gay community. We do not need idiots like you highjacking our community in order to satisfy your liberal idiotcy

  8. Lee - stop blaming black people and liberals for the fact that your parents never loved you. I know it's been a hard life, and I know it's crippled your sense of self worth, but at some point you need to redirect all of your anger back at them and realize that your parents were just lousy people, and it's not the fault of liberals and blacks that they've never shown you actual love and support.

  10. My parents were great was spoiled rotten almost as a child in fact(perk of being an only child) you need to get over the fact that not everyone is so keen to bottom for every black guy out there like you are.

  11. you know how you come on here every day and switch screen names so you can anonymously vent your bitter anger? that's they didn't love you. not because you're gay, but because you're such a pathetic little wimp about it.

  15. Floyd Corkins is a hero and should act as a model for the actions of others. Hate organizations like the Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Liberty Counsel, Family Research Institute, Heritage Institute, National Organization for Marriage, etc., need to be stopped by any means necessary. Bigots should no longer be able to carry out their vile actions with impunity. They need to be made to pay a very heavy price for their actions. Corkins needs to be freed from prison by any means necessary.

  17. 25 years for attempted murder is fairly long. The insanity defense probably should have been pursued more strenuously.

  18. Gay fascists like Rob show their hatred of America. Anyone who supports Floyd Corkins is a bigot.

  19. Lee, get bent. My question is why the shooting had to be so vociferously condemned? You don't see Toy Perkins falling over himself to condemn the guy that shot that gay guy in the face in NYC a few months ago. And I know we have to set the example but why say anything about it at all.

  20. Rob's comment (a) should be removed immediately, and (b) is almost certainly fake.

  21. Twenty five years means that tubby will actually serve about 8-10 years. Our criminal justice system is a joke. Violent offenders serve about 1/3 of their sentence. We have to make room in our prisons for all those guys selling weed.

  22. Here we go with the Trayvon Martin crap again. Trayvon Martin was no little angel and George Zimmerman was under no moral or legal obligation to allow Trayvon Martin to smash his skull in. The entire affair was a tradgedy but one cannot expect one human being to submit to the murderous blows of another without defending his own life.

  23. And yes, you're right. Floyd Corkins' actions bring shame on the gay community but I can somehow identify with how he must have felt. However, Chick-fil-A can do that. They have a right to say what they want and we can still vote with our feet. I watched the silly people crowding the restaurant in our town and thought to myself, "You guys just don't know." If God is Love, the Devil surely must be Hate.

  24. An incident like this was bound to happen at some point. This isn't reflective of gays as a whole. We don't have a history of violence. Anti-gay preachers come into our part of town during our parades and freely hold up signs calling us all sinners. I've seen it and I'm sure others have as well. Why? Because they know they're safe. They do it because there are no repercussions. Organizations like Family Research Council now realize that scapegoating gays for profit may have consequences.
