NOM: Marriage Equality Sacrifices Children To The Gay Movement

NOM Email
The National Organization for Marriage, in another bid to whip up financial support from their base and desperately attempt to remain relevant, sent out an email this past week slamming Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg for her support of marriage equality and officiating a ceremony. In addition to calling her clueless about the true purpose of marriage – which is makin' babies, not "[O]ne more statement that people who love each other and want to live together should be able to enjoy the blessings and the strife in the marriage relationship." – Brian Brown tried the tactic of invoking idolatry and metaphorical child-sacrifice:

How many generations of children will be sacrificed to the gods of the gay lobby who demand the redefinition of marriage as an idol to their political movement?

What follows is the usual dross of falsehoods and deliberate misinterpretations of what marriage equality supporters actually believe: men and women aren't unique, children don't need a mom and a dad, it will lead to polyamory, etc., etc., ad nauseum. And, of course, the tired refrains of "Won't someone PLEASE think of the children?" As Alvin McEwen points out, however, concern for children is just the thin façade NOM hides behind:

Other than attempting to keep gays from getting married, what has NOM done for the issue of foster care and adoption? NOM seems to be more interested in keeping children away from good gay homes than making sure children are placed in homes period.

  2. the irony - anti-gays sacrifice their own children for their own sociopolitical agenda

  3. NOW is the sound a tire makes after it's hit a shard of metal and is leaking air. Their words are the sound of water leaking into boat.

They've lost this battle legally, socially and morally. There's nothing left for them to grasp onto but the boogeyman and 'what ifs'.

When you've become the punchline, you don't even get the joke.

  4. NOW = NOM....proofread, Bart, proofread.

  5. This NOM people hysterical retoric is beyond free speach, someone should take them to court

  6. "How many generations of children will be sacrificed to the gods of the gay lobby who demand the redefinition of marriage as an idol to their political movement?"

Brown is not only hyperbolic, he's incoherent. What does any of that actually mean?

  7. A rather large pot calling the kettle black. Perhaps the pot should try smoking some.

  8. Beware, Brian. We are all gods now. We are all powerful. For all you know, Brian, we are all manifestations of the god you have been worshipping, and she is getting really pissed at you.

Talk about over the top talk. Brian must be shaking in his boots that the few backers of his organization are about to pull their funds and leave him jobless and without his big salary. He had better start learning Russian. Of course, his mastery of English is not tip top. Maybe he needs to apply for a job as a manager at a Chick-fil-A store.

  9. You know what's bad for children?

When their parents disown and remove them from their homes due to their own ignorance and intolerance.

You know what's bad for children?

When priests, pastors and other religious leaders tell kids that they are sinners and damned to hell just because of how they were born and who they love.

You know what's bad for children?

When politicians enact laws that make it harder for their parents to offer them the same chances and advantages that other parents receive.

The ignorance of parents, pastors and politicians is bad for children.

  10. @Craig,

Adding to your list of things bad for kids:

    1. Denying them food because their parents are poor and/or working poor.

    2. Denying them healthcare because their parents are poor and/or working poor.

    3. Denying them a quality education because their parents are poor and/or working poor.

    4. Caring only for the unborn "child" and that that child that is actually born.

  11. Give it time. It's too early to tell the effects of gay parenting on a large scale. One bad parent can do a lifetime of damage. We only read about the "sweetness and light" couples. Nice dig on the "staying relevant" aspect. You forget gays, in this format, have only been relevant for a short time. Everyone here loves to spew. Their war has nothing to do with actual children.

  12. How many children are homeless or runaway because of the anti-gay hostility the hate group NOM creates and promotes? 40% of the estimated 600,000 or more homeless youth across the country identify as LGBorT. NOM ignores that each year an estimated 20,000 young people age out of the system never adopted and have no home. Some barley live, some go into mental hospitals, some go to prison, some become drug dealers &/or druggies, and some become prostitutes. But I guess all of that is better than being raised by 2men or 2women who provide shelter, food, clothing, healthcare, education, love and protection right NOM? "Protect" the children indeed.....

If "protect" means subjecting and reducing a teenage girl to sell herself to a pimp just so she can eat because no heterosexual couple wanted her and apparently, according to hate groups like NOM, a gay couple is not the "ideal" couple. You know like the Ideal" mother and father in OK who chained their son up like a dog while they slept and went to work so he wouldn't eat the food in the house or the "ideal" mother in father in NC who chained their son Jed to a bed and fed him from a dog bowl on the floor or the "ideal" mother and father of 3yo Ronnie Paris who beaten to death by his anti-gay father while his mother watched or the heterosexual couple in NJ who neglected and tortured their foster children. "Protect" the children indeed.

  13. In the email:
"Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous donor.....". The donor is unnamed. At least Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos are not afraid to use their names. I wonder if it is Brian Brown himself and it is one of his Ponzi schemes.

  14. Thank, Brian. Meanwhile my husband and I will just keep raising our two boys. Thanks.

  15. So NOM would now support an initiative to make procreation a requirement for marriage? Have babies -- the natural way, no step-children and no adoption -- within three years or your marriage license is revoked?

Posted by: Gregory in Seattle | Sep 8, 2013 6:24:42 PM

  16. @ Kris:

Nice dodge: "on a large scale." You mean like the Regnerus study? That was on a large scale -- to bad it didn't deal with gay parenting. (And that's according to Mark Regnerus.)

There are over 120 studies on the effect of having gay parents on children, including longitudinal studies going back 20-30 years. They all agree -- children of same-sex parents are fully comparable in all measurable areas of psychosocial development to their peers raised by opposite-sex parents. In fact, there are indications that gay and lesbian couples are better parents. I think we have enough evidence.

    Posted by: Hunter | Sep 8, 2013 7:21:52 PM

  17. Gregory: They could do it the way some other cultures have done it -- have the children first, then get married.

    Posted by: Hunter | Sep 8, 2013 7:24:29 PM

  18. Brian Brown is stupid and is incapable of showing proper respect. It is his first amendment right to make an ass of himself publicly.

    Posted by: m | Sep 8, 2013 7:24:32 PM

  19. NOM has now resorted to complete nonsense. The statement makes no sense whatsoever.

Married people are not required to procreate. Last time I checked, a marriage license is not required in order to pump out kids. Stop bringing children into a debate where they are only but one of many factors, and for many couples of whatever orientation, might be totally irrelevant!

These sociopaths do not care about actual children anyway. Perhaps they should go see how it is living in the place rapidly evolving to become their paradise...Putin's Russia.

  20. Wow. Brian doesn't even try to hide the desperation and stupidity anymore. Anytime a gay person so much as cuts a fart, Brian is screaming some junk about "gays eating/raping/sacrificing children", and then begging for money can he can use it to buy a 60 inch HD flatscreen...I mean, use it to keep the mean old gays from forcing boys to learn to bake and making girls play baseball. OOH, SCARY!

  21. Well, Mr. Mark (?) Whals is the result of gay parents and anyone would be proud to have him as a son.

Brown talks out of his hole

  22. Mr. Brown sounds especially desperate now.
Is your funding drying up Mr. Brown?
