Judd Apatow Tweet-Shames Chris Christie Over Same-Sex Marriage

Judd_apatowJudd Apatow took to Twitter recently to shame New Jersey Governor Chris Christie because of his latest same-sex marriage evasion.

The controversy stems from Christie's announcement to appeal a court ruling that ordered the state to allow gay couples to marry.

Tweeted Christie last week:

"Thanks to @bodybyjake & @CoCaColaCo. Together we will make a real difference for many kids in New Jersey."

Tweeted Apatow:

"@GovChristie just not gay kids. You are working hard to make sure they have no rights. Despicable. Catch up already. You look ridiculous."

Later adding:

"@GovChristie lots of politicians have announced that their positions have evolved. Maybe you don't want to be the last person to get it."

Christie maintains that the only way he'll support same-sex marriage in the state is through a ballot referendum. In 2012 he vetoed a bill passed in the house and senate that would have legalized same-sex marriage.

  1. Before applauding Judd Apatow, do a little research on him. His movies are often homophobic.

  2. Chris Christie is showing he's a very insecure man. I'm not surprise he's evading the hard issues.

  3. @ADRENAN P I dont have to research Judd Apatow because I am already a fan of his movies, which are in no way homophobic. Thanks for trolling our allies, though. It seems like no matter how big an ally we have there is always some twit on this site that wants to tell you what a secret homophobe that person is. Put some of that energy toward fighting our real enemies and stop embarrassing yourself.

  4. When was the last time Judd Apatow had a gay character or plot thread of any significance in one of his movies?

  5. Dback And? Douglas Coupland is gay, and there barely gay characters in his novels. That doesn't mean he is a self hating gay.

And there are barely no gay in Alejandro Amenabar movies either, and he is openly gay.

On the opposite side there's a lot of gay characters in Michael Chabon novels or in Ang lee movies

  6. NEW JERSEY DOESN'T HAVE THE INITIATIVE AND REFERENDUM PROCESS!! Grrrr...

    Is Christie a complete moron?

  7. For clarity...the local initiative and referendum process is used in certain areas. Not statewide.

  8. didn't openly gay assemblyman reed gusciora try to get a referendum on the ballot (polls show majority of new jerseyans support marriage equality), but did not get the support of the gay community?

  9. if nj doesn't have a statewide referendum option, it would not indicate that christie is a moron, but what a political whore he is

    VOTE BUONO

  10. New Jersey does not have an initiative option. However, the NJ legislature - if it wanted to - could put one on the ballot.

As for Christie. He appealed directly to the NJ Supreme Court - he wants to avoid the Appeals level court, thereby bringing the issue to the resolution faster. He is not stupid - anyone who read the 2006 NJ decision knows that NJ Supremes will likely recognize that civil unions are now not enough. Christie understands this perfectly well, he is not stupid. If he really wanted to avoid marriage equality for as long as he could, he'd take it through the appeals court. But he's not doing that. Because he just wants the issue resolved before he enters the race for the 2016 election.

  11. Judd Apatow freely includes hateful language e.g. 'faggot' in his movies, which generally do not feature any gay characters...

  12. Since Gov. Christie is so keen to put the civil rights of New Jersey's LGBTQ citizens to a ballot initiative, I propose that we add one more initiative: whether or not bovine, obese, slovenly, unkempt, gluttonous white men should be prohibited from running for statewide public office. It's only fair.

Movies are art. Sometimes they reflect the culture and sometime they lecture the culture.

  14. What church does he attend? We should picket that church. If it's OK for that moron from Kansas, it's OK for the rest of us too.
