Advocate of 'Gay Cure Therapy' Overseeing Cadet Counseling At US Air Force Academy

The US Air Force Academy has hired an advocate of harmful 'gay conversion therapy' to oversee its counseling program for young cadets. Dr. Mike Rosebush is the chief of Character and Leadership Coaching at the US Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Americablog reports:

UsafRosebush is the chief of Character and Leadership Coaching at the US Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, putting him in charge of a team of counselors.

Rosebush’s primary counseling experience before coming to the academy was in supposedly “curing” homosexuality and other “sexual addictions” since 1995.  Before that time, he was in the Air Force and also taught at the Academy.  His resume reads like a veritable who’s-who of anti-gay hate and pseudo-science.

Rosebush is a former vice president of one of the lead religious right, and anti-gay activist, organizations, Focus on the Family, which is also headquartered in Colorado Springs.

Rosebush has also served as a clinical member of the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), the lead group of quack scientists who claim to have found the cure for homosexuality....And Rosebush also served as director of the Professional Counselors’ Network of Exodus International, what was once the lead “ex-gay” counseling group.

  1. Who in the hell approved Rosebush's appointment? This is BS. Isn't there enough proselytizing in the US military already without having this clown part of the training program at the USAF Academy?

  2. This is an outrage.

  3. This just reinforces the fact that the Airforce Academy is overrun with christianists hell bent on conquering the US and imposing their hate on us..

  4. The Air Force Academy is run by born againers. Not a surprising development.

  5. Having known quite a few of them, I second what J. Brady said.

This will hit the wider press in about a week, mark my words.

  6. Hey, It's Colorado Springs! Home of Focus on the Family and Ted Haggert.... Need I say more. But, the Air Force Academy is a government organization and councilors should be governed by fact and science.

  8. what the devil is wrong with the decision-makers in Colorado Springs? this is just so sad--and, not for nothing, seems inconsistent with the military's policies concerning gay military personnel.

  9. Scroll down in linked site: he was an associate of George Rekers - the dude caught coming back from Europe with a rent-boy whom he hired to carry his luggage.

Rosebush also says he "loves helping male teens." Yes, that's just the kind of language they express it to themsevles in--and to vulnerable, self-hating gay young men--usually with the help of a lot of Scotch.

  10. "Dr. Rosebush, Dr. Rosebush you are wanted in the re-sexualizing rompus room. Dr. Rosebush, emergency in the re-sexualizing rompus room..."

  11. Should get Hagel's comment on Rosebush hiring.

From a few years ago: Evangelical takeover of the Air Force Academy.

  12. The AFA is run by fundamentalists at all levels. They've infested the staff at least two decades ago. As said, it's located in Colorado Springs and has a symbiotic relationship with the local megachurches and fundamentalist/evangelical organizations.

  13. There have been numerous complaints about the "penetration" of evangelical Christians into the up reaches of the Air Force and the Academy in particular. Some of this has been very worrying because of the Air Force's role in our nuclear weapons program.

  15. Btw this isn't just someone who praised "ex-gay" "therapy" once or twice in an obscure article. But someone who built almost his entire career on it.

  16. How do we do something to get this guy fired?
