  1. The whole country is watching, Hawaiians! We're very excited for you in N.Y. After 20 years... wow. You started it all!

  2. Great to hear a secular invocation appealing con conscience. That sets the right tone.

  3. I never know how to tell when I view these things, and the same old bigoted excuses for "oppositional arguments" are trotted out. I don't know whether to smile because they reveal nothing but ignorant bigotry and hatred, or be upset because other ignorant bigots don't realize or care that their hateful excuses are meritless.....

  4. The third reading is just a formality. They essentially passed it after the second reading. The opposition is just wasting their breath.

  5. This day/week is huge; Hawaii is really where it all began. I remember well when that ruling came down 20 years ago -- and FRC, FOTF, et al proceeded to set their hair on fire. I remember the cover of Citizen Magazine with the 'scary' picture of two plastic dudes holding hands on the top of a wedding cake. Just think about the sequence of events set in motion by Baehr v. Lewin, both the good and the bad (DOMA).

At that time I was just a freaked-out Evangelical eleven year-old who never in his wildest imagination thought that a) marriage equality would be a reality or b) that I myself would enter into a civil marriage (in NY) AND holy matrimony (in the Episcopal Church) with another guy.

It's crazy to reflect on the last two decades. Now, Hawaii, finish the job.

  6. the fundies are calling for recess after recess and they're being granted.
just more stalling, more gumming up the proceedings.
    endless testimonies, endless recesses...
    what nonsense.

  8. I'm "listening" to it on twitter and it's just one delay tactic after another by the opposition.

  9. All frivolous amendments by the wingnuts failed. Time to move on. The majority has delivered a message : "You are wasting my time. Stop it." They don't even care to comment on them.

  10. Representative Jo Jordan spits in the face of all the gay and lesbians activists who went before her and made it possible for her to be able to stand in that chamber today and denigrate all that they tried to achieve.

  16. 8pm in Hawai'i, Still going on. Best quote on the floor so far, Rep. Kaniela Ing from Maui asks, "How many more gay people must God create until we realize that he wants them here?"

  17. Kane:
That book said he created only Adam and Eve.
The rest were "created" by them like rabbits.
There must be some incest going on among their descendants. It just happens that Eve got some gay genes which I think must be created by God.
