Gay 'Hoax' Waitress Who Promised to Donate Sympathy Cash to Veteran's Group, Hasn't

Morales

Dayna Morales, the ex-Marine Bridgewater, NJ waitress who hoaxed the public with her 'no tip, anti-gay note' story while collecting money from strangers sympathetic to that story, promised to donate that cash to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The group can find no sign that she has done so, Bridgewater Patch reports:

But as of Wednesday, the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit that supports veterans returning from overseas duty, could not confirm Morales had made any donations.

A Wounded Warrior representative checking for donations by her name and the ZIP codes for Bridgewater, where the restaurant is located, and Bedminster, where Morales said she lives, was unable to find any matching donations.

The donations may have been made from a different ZIP code, or by a third-party, the representative said.

Morales could not be reached for comment.

She is currently suspended from her job at the restaurant.

  2. She should redeem whoever fell for her hoax. It is beyond arrogant for her to decide what to do with their money.

  4. We certainly should not jump to any conclusions regarding this woman. But as USMC Vietnam veteran, I have to say, if these allegations are true she owes an apology to a great many people. She has disgraced the Corp and every gay person who struggles to be treated fairly.

  6. the production of the original receipt and the credit card posting of the purchase is pretty good evidence of fraud. Yes gay people can be assholes too. She should be praised for demonstrating that gays are in fact the same as everyone else.

  7. Do you really think a compulsive liar (according to her past friends and co-workers) is going to ADMIT she lied?

Well, I wouldn't hold my breath.

The restaurant is likely keeping mum, hoping the story will go away, because it doesn't take long at all to research the truth of what happened that night. The merchant keeps a their copy of the credit card slip since the actual transaction is handled electronically. They may send them to a book-keeper but those copies should be fairly easy to access. Or they could request a batch report from their bank which shows all the credit card transactions for that night and see which total went through, the amount with tip or without.

I feel sorry for her in a way because it's clear she needs counseling and help, and the on-going attention this story this story has drawn is making her situation worse, possibly even dangerous. She may not have intended her initial claim to gain her anything more than attention and sympathy but then it went public and the media became involved.

But I think it's pretty clear she lied and she's the one who set this whole thing in motion, no matter what her goal was. But what she needs is help, not to be hounded by angry villagers until she self-destructs completely.

  8. I'm sure it's been quite evident to quite a few people over the years that she needs help. She was dishonorably discharged and has since held a string of jobs, all of which seem to have ended poorly.

Despite that, those who know or have known her haven't been especially vocal about her issues. So I'd say that people have shown her a lot more respect than she's shown them. If she didn't want the glare of media attention, she could have declined interviews with USA Today and other media outlets, given that the attention would ultimately discredit her story. And the restaurant was polite in suspending her, though it's kind of clear she won't be working there again.

  9. can we stop caring about this person please?

  10. I don't care what she does, now; considering the damage she's done to gay men and women, the sooner she gets help and goes away, the better.

  12. Dykes always lie. It's a condition brought on by their sex.

  13. Lets stop the misogyny. However I hope the employer asks her to send the donations in to get 1 months severance, or get fired cold.

  14. Anyone that donated needs to file fraud charges against her. Let her lying ass sit in jail and she if she grows up then.

  15. The real travesty here is the anti-grammatical comma in the headline...

  16. She doesn't need "help." Assuming the allegations are true, she needs to be fired and arrested and charged with fraud. A court can make sure the donations are handled appropriately and that she is kept under tight supervision so she doesn't try this crap again.

  17. She works as a waitress for a restaurant that paid her $2.30 an hour (even though minimum wage in the state is $6.80).

She basically earns her living extorting money from paying customers in the form of tips - irrespective of whether she deserved them or not.

She has simply moved on from extorting money from the wider public.

The villain of this piece is the restaurant that employs her.

Why are restaurants allowed to pay slave wages and then expect the public to make up for their meanness.

  18. I'm with Merv. She's a grown woman, and a former soldier. Exactly what about this woman screams that she didn't know better? She stole money from people by defaming other people, and continues to lie. She SHOULD be in jail for fraud.

  19. Anyone--including those who fake their own hate crimes--needs to be called out and made to suffer consequences proportionate to their falsehoods. This sort of thing is very damaging to the gay community, as every time it happens, it creates a "boy who cried wolf" template whereby people think they can shrug off real hate crimes and homophobia because they think, "Oh, that's not real."

  20. Throw the book at her. Sadly, however, that won't discourage similar pathological liars in the future who will do anything just to get attention. They all think they can get away with it, often even after they get caught. Like the guy who was the basis for the "Seven Degrees of Separation" play/film - Still claims to be Sidney Poitier's son.

  21. Good follow-up report. First, the dyke was a liar and a fraud. Now she's proven what a deeply disturbed amoral crook she is. And its a shame no other gay news organization (such as Gay USA) have not reported this case further.
