Dozens More Arrests Reported in Nigeria Under Anti-Gay Law

More men have been arrested in Nigeria over the last two days in a 'witch hunt' inspired by President Jonathan Goodluck's signing of a law criminalizing gay unions, organizationss, and meetings.

The AP reports: Orazulike

Ifeanyi Kelly Orazulike, Executive Director of the Nigeria-based International Center for Advocacy on Right to Health, said Friday that over two days more than 30 people have been detained. He says 12 people have been arrested in Oyo state in the southwest, six in Imo state in the southeast, eight in central Abuja and six in Anambra state in the southeast.

Meanwhile, no updates from the U.S. State Department on this since John Kerry's statement of 'concern' shortly after the signing took place.

  6. Mikey, our supporters globally are weak and thin, and they don't have a long tradition of supporting us.

Be aware that what we've won could be undone by a single change on the Supreme Court.

  10. @Dawson: Don't know what they buy, but I've received way too much email touting what they sell. These emails usually started with things like, "I WRITE THIS LETTER WHICH I PRAY SHOULD BE URGENTLY REPLIED.

"I AM DR. NELSON SMITH, PRESENTLY THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE IN THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE HEADQUARTERS, LAGOS NIGERIA I AM IN NEED OF YOUR GENUINE ASSISTANT AND TRUST BECAUSE AS A TOP OFFICIAL OF THE RULING GORVERNMENT, I WANT TO SAFE GAURD MY INTEREST IN YOUR COUNTRY BEFORE THE END OF THE TENURE OF THIS ADMINITRATION. MORE ALSO WE AS CIVIL SERVANT ARE FORBIDDEN TO OWN OR OPERATE FOREIGN ACCOUNT, HENCE A FOREIGNER IS NEEDED IN THIS."

They did their best to convince me that Nigeria is a nation of idiots.
