GOProud Founder Jimmy LaSalvia On Signorile's Show: The GOP Has No Backbone — AUDIO

Jimmy LaSalvia

Now that he's abandoned the Republican party, GOProud founder Jimmy LaSalvia is airing all of his grievances with the party that banned his group from CPAC in an interview with Michelangelo Signorile. He doesn't say anything that people on the left haven't been saying for YEARS - the GOP has been hijacked by a loud, powerful minority; they're unwilling to lose a small number of fringe voters to gain "multitudes"; the party has no backbone - but it's cathartic to hear someone who was once one of the party's major cheerleaders finally get a clue.

LaSalvia actually had some rather scathing remarks about the GOP, such as comparing them to drug addicts who know they have a problem but can't kick it, or saying that they have a cultural disease that can't be fixed. He even recalled a rather telling moment during a conversation with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus when Priebus said, in regards to whatever they were talking about, "I can't do that, I'll get a call from Tony Perkins."

You can listen to LaSalvia lambaste his former party AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. Well. The GOP said they will reboot after their loss of the last election. So far little has been done. The virus is still there after the reboot.

  2. On a related note (and this is perhaps going to highlight my ignorance) but did anyone else realize that conservative Christian gay coalition (i.e GOProud, Log Cabin republicans) has a huge presence on twitter. I stumbled on one of their twitter accounts only to see they are thousands strong, a very insular community, parroting the same talking points ("gay left are intolerant of religious freedoms. pride parades are disgusting. why do gays need to shove their sexuality down people's throats. Obama is evil") their talking points in their tweets didn't surprise me. The fact that there ARE thousands of them did.

I honestly genuinely figured the self hating conservative gay crowd was a few hundred strong. Not many thousand. The worst was seeing the number of LATINO gay conservative catholic republicans. You're an ethnic AND sexual minority. That party HATES you. How could you sleep at night knowing you're supporting an institution that targets latino families and LGBT?

  3. @Eagles Fanatic - Garbage in, garbage out.

  4. Well, it's about time. But his unequivocal dissection of the GOP is appreciated. Also good to receive direct confirmation that Tony Perkins is the devil.

  5. Gay Republicans all have a screw loose- how do people vote against their own best interest?

Same with poor whites who vote Republican. Voting for the interests of the rich only makes their plight worse.

Karl Rove created a coalition of the very rich and the very stupid.

  6. They're called "sockpuppet accounts," Eagles Fanatic. Just like how Rick posts here 100 times a day using 20 different aliases. It doesn't take that many people to create a massive online footprint.

I'm going to link every idiot that I ever hear claim, "The Republican Party isn't anti-gay," to this article. The fact that GOP king makers even take calls from a skidmark like Perkins is more than sufficient proof to the contrary.

  7. Poor Jimmy. See, here's the deal. Back when it looked like the GOP was going to be the BMOC in American politics for decades to come (2004, for example, when LaSalvia and the Log Cabinettes were drooling over the GOP while the GOP was demonizing LGBT people in order to raise millions of dollars in funds and get that execrable evangelical base out to vote), LaSalvia thought the GOP and its brand of "piss-on-the-poor-let's-start-another-war" conservatism looked like the winning ticket.

Then, political, social and cultural realities set in and a majority of Americans either wised up or woke up to the GOP hate-game and the GOP was exposed for the shameless, incompetent, seditious reprobates they are.

So, now, The GOP doesn't seem so hot anymore to all the white, gay, male conserva-swishes, who once were so hot-to-trot for the GOP.

Also, GoProud Girls LOVE to party. They love getting fabulous invites and being all A-listy regardless of who is throwing the party. But, the GOP is now so straight-laced, so Puritanical, that they just don't do parties anymore unless it's a holy-roller revival in a smelly canvas tent in some godforsaken Kansas cornfield. So, Jimmy has decided to up and leave his GOP masters and go take his party spirit somewhere else.

    It's all b.s. LaSalvia is a fraud.

  8. Seriously, though, the minute the words "Tony Perkins" came out of Priebus's mouth, Jimmy should have seen the little red bulb flashing and gotten the hell off the stage.

  9. There is something to be said for realizing when you aren't welcome. Some people clue-in faster than others.

That said: the only thing worse than 30 years in an abusive relationship is 30 years and one day.

  10. Jamal49: perfect analogy. Although the ending is not that he's taking his "party" elsewhere, its that he realizes (like steve's) comment that all the guests were really laughing AT him and not with him, so he's getting on the phone to complain to everyone about something everyone else has known for a long time.

  11. He never had a party to begin with him that he could now take with him. He had only come for the drinks and the feeling of having made it to the supposed top.

Hope he doesn't get bitter but instead realize that those people aren't at the top of anything but a pile they created by pushing as many people down as possible so they could step on top of them.

Like Jerry said between you and Steve, thise people are really evil. Literally. Hate consumes them.

  13. If towleroad is interested, I know an idiot down the street who just changed his mind on the GOP too. He likes diapers and Enya. Like LaSalvia, he "actually had some rather scathing remarks about the GOP". Well... when he's not pooting. Do you think I could get him a couple write-ups in towleroad.com, and/or interview with Signorile as well?

  15. A backbone is something Democrats lack as well.

Where is ENDA? Where is an ENDA EO? Why wouldn't they repeal DOMA and why won't they repeal what's left of it?

They had the chance from 2006 until 2010 when their cowardice and across the board right wing politics lost them the house. Democrats and their supporters are not out friends. They and the Republicans are our enemies.

  16. I understand not being a single issue voter, but come on same sex marriage is a core issue for anyone who's gay.

  17. GOProud wishes their Co-founder and former Executive Director well but states that they "will continue to work within the Republican Party, providing hope and support for the thousands of members who depend on us to brand the Party, and not the other way around."
Looks like some gay conservatives have still not seen the light.

  18. Marriage equality is not a core issue for every gay person...we realized a long time ago that not every gay person wants to get married...they were just shouted down by the "normalizing" queer agenda...most of us don't want to be normal, it's so boring...equality in general was the goal, if you could get married along with that, great...don't pretend it's what we all wanted.

  20. Every time I see a pic of this loser, I crack up.

The hair says "21-year-old in 1979," but the face says "63-year-old in Miami Beach."

  21. Wow, finally got out of bed and opened the curtains. Doesn't the sun feel good? Don't you feel more energized and alive?

Sheesh, GoProud people are so lazy, they just can't get out of bed with the GoPuke party.

  22. You can be sure that his conversion is about poll numbers, not ideology. Only 25% of voters now call themselves "conservative" because of how the label is being used and high unemployments makes people less conservative. Nearly 40% of voters call themselves "independent" now, which means if you are trying to get donations, publicity, etc. you should call yourself that.

  23. "I just realized that all my years of kissing @ss and cutting off my own balls, lit up as Burnt Offerings, meant nothing to the GOP. They'd rather appeal to the Tony Perkins' of the country than me or any of the other gay men who castrated themselves in a show of support for the GOP."

Well, nice of you to finally catch on.

It's one of those Dr. Phil things - you have to look around and say to yourself "How's my way of doing things working for me so far?"

I'm a stereotypicaly out Loud and Proud homo who regularly takes part in "the scene(s)" and Pride and all that stuff the conservative-right hates. And.........everyone in my family and friends is an outspoken advocate for LGBT Equality, and our communities. Clearly, it's working. How about you, Jimmy? mhmmmmgurl.

  24. What kind of self-loathing homosexual would ever align themselves with a party that won't even allow them to attend CPAC?

I think Jimmy Lasalvia is an idiot.
