Four LGBT Activists Arrested at Sochi Protest in St. Petersburg

The Russian LGBT Network reports that four activists have been arrested following a protest in St. Petersburg:

SmirnovaJust now in St.Petersburg 4 LGBT-activists, including one pregnant woman, were arrested. Among the activists were Anastasiya Smirnova (pictured) and Aleksandra Semenova.

The activists were making photos with a banner "Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement. Principle 6. Olympic Charter" to support the company held today all over the world.

All the arrested will be taken to the 16th police department.

  3. It's infuriating that the IOC is doing nothing about the abuse after they made such a horrible selection for the venue.
    People are being arrested simply for stating the words of the Olympic charter in public.
    I stuck my Visa credit card in a drawer on Feb 1st (actually, I may call up cancel if a campaign to do so gets underway), threw the tail end of my Crest toothpaste in the garbage and tried a new brand yesterday, and haven't been in a McDonald's. The Olympics' complicity in all the abuses in Russia leaves a bad taste in my mouth for every sponsor that is handing money over and saying nothing.
    I type this as I sit in a Starbucks, and at least I can feel good about where these dollars are going.
