  1. I am both surprised and delighted by the speed with which marriage equality is spreading across the country. I have lived here since 1986, and did not expect such a development in my lifetime. The bottom line is that the country is finally recognizing that the concept of equal protection extends to gay men and lesbians too. State after state is moving in the right direction and embracing gay marriage, and I am hopeful that the final hurdle -- passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) -- is within sight.
