Fox News Welcomes Hate Group Leader to Discuss the Veto of Arizona's Anti-Gay Bill: VIDEO

Kelly_-perkins

In a particularly offensive, though not entirely surprising segment, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly asked Family Research Council president Tony Perkins about his thoughts regarding Gov. Jan Brewer's veto of Arizona SB1062, which would have allowed business owners and other individuals to refuse service to gay and lesbian patrons based on religious beliefs. Perkins proceeded to demonize the decision, stating that "this is how fundamental freedoms are trampled."

He also denied the relevance of comparing African-American civil rights struggles of the 1950's and 60's and today's issues, saying that most places in Arizona would still allow racial discrimination. But would that happen? "No, because people aren't going to do that," according to Perkins, who in one fell swoop both confirmed and denied the existence of race-based discrimination while continuing to reinforce his own homophobic view, that gay and lesbian people do deserve to have "that," discrimination, directed towards them.

Media Matters reports:

[Megyn] Kelly's decision to host Perkins to discuss the veto without questioning his rhetoric or providing another guest to counter his views marks an unfortunate reversal from her comments the day before, wherein she acknowledged that Arizona's anti-gay bill was "potentially dangerous." Unfortunately, Perkins' regular status as a Fox guest is in keeping with the network's ongoing attempt to suppress gay rights by suggesting thatthe religious views of business owners should allow them to discriminate against gay customers.

  1. let's discriminate against red haired people; in many cultures they are regarded as demons.

    I always remember Housman's poem about the malicious bigotry of people like Perkins,Lively, O'Donohoe and that cess pit of
    slime, Fox.
    Please read this, it's about red hairs and about us !

    Oh Who Is That Young Sinner.

    Oh who is that young sinner with the handcuffs on his wrists?
    And what has he been after that they groan and shake their fists?
    And wherefore is he wearing such a conscience-stricken air?
    Oh they're taking him to prison for the colour of his hair.

    'Tis a shame to human nature, such a head of hair as his;
    In the good old time 'twas hanging for the colour that it is;
    Though hanging isn't bad enough and flaying would be fair
    For the nameless and abominable colour of his hair.

    Oh a deal of pains he's taken and a pretty price he's paid
    To hide his poll or dye it of a mentionable shade;
    But they've pulled the beggar's hat off for the world to see and stare,
    And they're haling him to justice for the colour of his hair.

    Now 'tis oakum for his fingers and the treadmill for his feet
    And the quarry-gang on Portland in the cold and in the heat,
    And between his spells of labour in the time he has to spare
    He can curse the God that made him for the colour of his hair.

    A.E. Housman

  2. You know, when i first moved back to Canada after 4 years in the USA, I was invited to talk on Canada AM, to talk about introducing LGBT-inclusive, and specific, education into the pubic school system.

    Because, they figured, it was important to hear how this type of education would benefit LGBT people, who grow up in a school system and never are made aware of the "people like them" throughout history who've helped shape the world.

    After the segment was over, they thanked me for coming and I thanked them for inviting an actually-gay person onto the problem to talk about this issue, and not an anti-gay person. It felt good to be Home, in a place where people don't put bigots on the air and pretend that anything that they have to say is worthy of consideration.

    Congrats, Fox News, on helping drive a few more of your viewers' children to suicide today.

  4. It's Fox News. Racists, xenophobes, homophobes and general haters are normal guests. Fox caters to its audience of old, bigoted white people and their equally prejudiced kin. Fox is the Pravda, the propaganda arm, of the Republican Party. They help to push bigoted wedge issues that divide, conquer, and destroy America.

    Why be surprised that Fox is evil? It's like saying that poop stinks; Dracula drinks blood; or the sun is hot. Some things are just obvious.

  6. He looks sick. Now the GOP mainstream has failed him. He should leave the party as he has promised previously.

  7. Well, it's obvious Fox news is pushing it's own agenda. However, it would be good to hear both sides of an issue occasionally, instead of the same exact anti-gay rhetoric over and over.

  8. BREAKING STORY: FoxNews show has homophobe as guest. C'mon, people. This is news? This is a daily event on Fox. Here's another BREAKING STORY: Blond bimbo airhead interviews homophobe guest on FoxNews. Wow! Who would have thunk it? Why do we care what some wind-up homophobe dolls have to say? They say the same thing over and over and over again. Everybody's heard it. Almost nobody cares. Except us. If we stopped caring, there wouldn't be any audience at all for these creeps. So let's stop caring. Before long they'll have vanished and we'll wonder where they've gone.

  10. Fox has plenty of nuts, but Megyn isn't one. It's too bad Andy didn't point out that Megyn and Brit Hume both said they opposed the bill.

  12. The people who run Faux News might be evil, but they aren't idiots. Having a sane counter voice to Ms. Perkins would have ruined some rabid closet case's morning power trip. There's a few more years to double down on homophobia and cater to the kray kray before it won't make economic sense anymore. At this point most Fox news viewers probably don't agree with him, but enough of them do that the balance still favors such a segment.

  16. They put that garbage on Fox News because that's what their audience wants. Which is why I never click on their videos or articles (or watch their programs). Glad to support advertisers here and get the low-down than give a cent to Fox News.

  17. Doesn't Andy Towle also give a lot of coverage to the views of conservative wing-nuts? Almost every article on Towleroad is about Brian Fischer, Tony Perkins or Pat Robertson.
