Iranian Diva Supports Gay Rights In New Music Video: WATCH

Googoosh

Last Friday Iranian singer GooGoosh released a special Valentine’s Day video for her song, “Behesht” (“Eden”) that shows the singer's support for the "freedom to love. For all." The video follows a fictional lesbian couple and seminal moments moments in their life together: the day they got engaged, a hate-filled encounter on the subway, meeting the parents and failing to receive the acceptance they might have hoped for, and finally, more powerful than all the rest, the everyday moments in their lives in which their love for each other shines through.

No doubt this video will offer inspiration to many of GooGoosh’s fans in Iran and abroad along with others may never heard her music before.

Watch the video and read the lyrics, AFTER THE JUMP…

LYRICS

I fear this misleading road of doubt
I fear this dead end road
I am afraid of this feeling
that is still persistent between us

The end of this road is not clear
I know this, just like you do
Don't tell me to stop loving
You can't do that and I can't either
We can't go back to where we were
And we can't find a way out of this dead-end
I know (they say) these feelings
should not be, but they are

I am beginning to be afraid of a dream
A dream we both might have dreamed
About the fact that we both
rotated anticlockwise
For escaping from this hell
there is no other way than to end this life
I don't know but maybe even heaven
is not big enough for us

The end of this road is not clear
I know this, just like you do
Don't tell me to stop loving
You can't do that and I can't either
We can't go back to where we were
And we can't find a way out of this dead-end
I know (they say) these feelings
should not be, but they are

  2. From what I have heard about Googoosh she was Iran's Queen of Pop. So coming from here this is a HUGE DEAL. Someone with as much celebrity as she has using her voice to try and change a situation is the epitome of an ally. Go Googoosh from your Irish/American fan.

  5. She was/is more than a "queen of pop". She is Striesand and Cher and all the rest wrapped into one since nobody else ever reached her level of fame. Famous as a child and more so as she grew up to become more of a western styled star as Iran became more connected with the world under the Shah. Movie actress (kinda) and weekly television show (a la Cher) where everyone tuned in each week to see her hair and outfits. After the revolution she was silenced by the mullahs (women don't sing) and nobody heard her sing again publically between 1979 and 2000 when she finally was able to leave Iran. Anyway, she is a HUGE deal. This will be seen by Iranians all around the world.
