Adam Lambert Prepares to Channel Freddie Mercury In Queen's U.S. Tour: VIDEO

May_lambert

Last week we reported that Adam Lambert would be going on tour with Queen for a 17-date U.S. run. Now, Euronews has posted video footage of the rockers' synergistic performance on stage as well as an update from a press conference where Lambert explained his Mercury idolatry and trepidation over taking on the legend's frontman status.

  1. It's a kinda Queen. 2 original members are not part of it,so it aint Queen.

  2. Of course it's not the original Queen, but I think it'll be a lot of fun.

  3. Freddie Mercury was even more outrageous than Lambert, yet his onstage persona was riveting and the back row of the audience felt him. Lambert has a voice that's perfect for standing in, but his chilly, poseur persona falls short. He doesn't emotionally connect with the audience like he should - he just dazzles with his vocals. However he sounds great and it's a good excuse to hear these great songs again.

  5. At first I thought they said "Adam Levine", which makes some sense. Lambert is not willing to take the risks necessary to perform the role.

  6. Mr Lambert has performed with Queen-AT THEIR REQUEST- many times. He is MORE than capable to carry on the Queen musical tradition, with his own interpretation, much to the delight of millions of us and, AND THE FOUNDERS OF QUEEN. They LOVE performing with him and that's all that really matters.

  7. Two things - Adam Levine, ANON, is incapable of singing Queen's songs - he has neither the range, nor the tone. Lambert has the classical training and vocal strength to master them. Secondly, JIM, one of the characteristics of Lambert's performances (as noted by Brian May) is his connection with the audience and, as one who has seen him live, can attest to that. Rather than live in the past, enjoy May and Taylor in their (probably) last tour with a superb singer who loves Freddie and wants to do him proud. Just take it for what it is. Think you'll like it very much.

  8. *SNORT* ADAM LEVINE..... ROFLMAO Oh wait... you were serious??? Come on. The guy's vocals are reed thin and he thinks "stage presence" = show off your tatts & sneer a bit. Anyway, I cant wait to see this collaboration and will be traveling from downunder to do exactly that. I've seen Adam live before and he is mesmerising, sexy, funny, charming and downright awesome in concert. I like that he doesnt take himself too seriously and is willing to take risks or be a bit of a dork or whatever, just to make sure the audience gets the best he can give. This mix with the legendary guitar work of Brian and the awesome drumming of Roger & Rex will be spectacular.

  9. The argument that the band isn't Queen without Freddie (and John) is so silly. No on is trying to pull a fast one on the audience, just entertain them. Having seen Adam with Queen in London, I have to tell you that many Queen fans went in as skeptics, came out very impressed. NO ONE IS TRYING TO REPLACE FREDDIE OR HIS LEGACY, these songs were written by various band members with Freddie as the front man. Adam has an easy relationship with all the other guys on stage, so it's funny and exciting and impressive. Time to just chill and enjoy the incredible songs made famous by this incredible band.

  10. Adam Lambert??? BOOO! This is an insult to iconic legend Freddie Mercury!!!

  11. Why are people surprised by this? Adam has been their guy for a couple years now and they have gotten great reviews from fans and press at their European gigs.

It's probably the last time they tour the states so I will be there. So many great songs. Brian and Roger are as good as ever and this combination is much better than Paul Rogers who has a great voice but didn't really fit and couldn't sing a lot of the songs that were out of his range.

  12. An old rock band with now more huge tours with a strange attractive replacement? I guess I'm just out of the loop and probably will remain so….

  13. Adam's performances with Queen have been amazing and can be viewed on YOUTUBE for all those who haven't seen how well they work together.

  14. Wrong direction to take. Lambert will never be Mercury. He should make it his own otherwise he'll never measure up. Brian and company should really stop using the Queen name even... but ya' know: money.

  15. I guess that everyone who is complaining that Adam can't fill Freddie's shoes thinks that Queen should have died with Mercury. It's not liked they just kicked him out of the band like he was David Lee Roth or something - they don't have too many options. Adam isn't Freddie, of course, but I can't think of any other singer who comes as close. Can you?

  16. Apparently there are lots of juvenile season 8, American Idol Adam haters still on the loose. These comments make no sense what so ever, Adam Lambert will and has done a wonderful job fronting for Queen. The unfortunate thing is most of you are not fans of Queen at all but simply hate Adam. Grow up kids and that is precisely what you are, Adam is the one sitting pretty and you collectively look like a bunch of jealous fools. Your comments will not hurt Adam, but they will make him and his fans more determined to prove you sillies wrong. Go Adam and Queen, I will be buying the best ticket in the house,.......here's looking at you.

  17. I want to step away from this notion of a Freddie "replacement" for a minute and just address Jim's 3/13 9:24 comments. Performing his own material, Adam is a HUGE risk taker ON STAGE. He easily connects with all in attendance at his concerts on many levels: emotional, sensual, sexual, spiritual. The words "chilly" and "poseur" can in no way be used to describes Lambert's on-stage persona and performance quality or style. Look up some of his YT's if you're going to throw out comments so carelessly. As far as fronting Queen, well of course it's going to be a slippery slope. There are many tightropes that have to be carefully walked, no need to get into listing them here, but I believe that his talent, uber stage prescense, and vocal prowess warrant supporting this tour with Queen (not to mention how down right enjoyable it will be to be able to hear Brian & Roger play live, and to hear the Queen catalogue performed live by a front man more than up to the task). I understand your comment was a supportive post and a positive one, thank you, but I can not stand idly by and have you call Lambert's onstage performance style chilly or poseur-esque, because nothing could be farther from the truth. Is it a slippery slope to front Queen, of course, but if you are truly interested in enjoying an amazing connection between audience & singer, check out any one of a huge variety of Lambert's concert vids on YT.

  18. MEL here is correct. Lambert is simply magnificent LIVE. Is he Freddie? No one is. But then, no one is Lambert either and he is not trying to "sing like" or "BE" Freddie. He is a fantastic live performer (who btw looks awesome with his facial hair the last year or so) No TV show, YouTube, etc. can do justice to that incredible LIVE voice! But in the end, as Dr. May said, "For those who don't like the idea of Adam singing with us I say "Fine.Don't come to a show, good-bye and thank you" See how simple that is? He IS gaining more followers from "family" lately also. Long story short, go ahead and eat your own AGAIN, instead of being happy for his success. What's new anyway? I have my tickets to Las Vegas for BOTH nights at the Hard Rock and they are already sold out.
