Orange Telecom Cuts Ties with Ugandan Tabloid Which Outed Gays

Orange Redpepper

Orange Telecom announced via Twitter on Friday that it had ended its contract with the Red Pepper tabloid, the publication which named a list of Uganda's '200 Top Homos' days after President Museveni signed an anti-gay bill into law.

The tweet came in response to a petition by activist group All Out for them to remove ads and commit to protecting LGBT employees in Uganda.

Said Andre Banks, Executive Director and co-founder of All Out: “We commend Orange for their leadership in reaction to the Anti-Homosexuality Law. Orange’s decision to withdraw their advertising and to explicitly support their LGBT employees should ring alarm bells for Ugandan politicians and business people about the impact this law could have on the national economy”.

  2. ...not because it's the right thing to do, but because it would cost them more than it would profit them. Because they got caught. Nothing personal, it's just business.

  5. Well, Orange Telecom had more corporate balls than Coke, et. al. did about the Olympics. I wonder now if the corporate sponsors of the Olympics had pulled out whether Putin would have had the balls to take Crimea? He was basically shown he can do whatever he wants without suffering any consequences. Big companies and big countries are perfectly willing to slap Uganda or Nigeria with sanctions but not Russia. Thank you, all you corporate giants, who talk the talk but don't walk the walk for your wonderful support against homosexual hate. I don't really like the word homophobia in a case like this because in all the other '-phobias' people avoid the problem, not viciously attack the problem. HOMOPHOBIA really means HOMOSEXUAL HATRED. Let's start calling it what it is. HATE pure and simple with a dusting of physical violence if the hater can get away with it. Putin and Museveni HATE HOMOSEXUALS.

  8. I had no idea who Orange is. They seem to be another bloated video, cellphone, internet company doing busienss in Europe and Africa. My biggest interaction with them is probably DailyMotion.
