  1. James Franco has played with gays long enough. It's not surprising he'd gravitate toward straight cliche--underage girl. How boring.

  2. RE: James Franco. So, now we're calling anyone that even thinks about being in the same room as a 17-year-old a "pervert" and a "predator"? We're OK with that? It's that kind of thinking that has led to people calling everyone a pedophile, and having kids declared sexual offenders for emailing their own boyfriends nude pictures of themselves.

The United States is one f**cked-up place.

  3. Gee, there's gonna be a HUGE market for a tranny online drama. The only reason to turn in is to see Jeffrey Tambor in a dress. He'll prolly look better than 99% of trannies!

  4. Rick, you're not fit...or as the great Hattie McDaniel would say, you aint fittin' to use Tyler's posting name. You aint fittin' just aint fittin'.

  5. @ Mike

Franco wasn't looking to sit in the same room with the 17 year old and play cards

  6. @ "you aint fittin'"

Oh, I'm challeling the dialect that Hattie used in "Gone With The Wind." A wonderful actress-- she certainly didn't speak that way in real life.

  8. anyway; 17 is the age of consent in both NY and Ireland so he isnt a pedo.

    A 30yr old chasing a 17 yr old = CREEPY

  9. A straight guy playing a trans person (excuse me, cis-gendered), that's trans-misogyny right? I can't wait for the inevitable pearl clutching and cries that it's inappropriate.

  10. Derrick, I am so sorry that AIDS-related dementia has finally struck you. Please seek help. It probably explains your bizarre need to identify with trannies.

  11. I actually trust Jeffrey Tambor to play Mort as a complex and sympathetic portrayal. My main concern is that the show would seem to be starting at the beginning of her transition, and I wonder whether a cis actor can really convincingly play a trans woman when it starts to get towards the back half of the transition, so to speak. Obviously misinformed bigots are going to say uncreative things like "all trans women look like linebackers in wigs" regardless of the stage of their transition, and I fully expect that sort of response here, but unless Jeffrey Tambor plans to actually transition I worry that it'll get harder and harder as the show goes on to maintain an accurate portrayal.

  12. @MOZ'S

Pedophilia isn't based on age of consent, it's based on the age children go through the major landmarks of puberty, which in the US is around 12-13.

The whole creepiness thing is really arbitrary as well. So 35 vs 17 is creepy, but 55 vs 37 isn't? The same number of years separate them. Mental age? I know lots of guys that are over 40 physically that have the mental age of a sixteen year old.

    Posted by: Mike | Apr 4, 2014 6:57:49 PM

  13. @MOZ'S

One last thing, it amazes me that in the US we're quick to subject our young to adult terms in prison, including life sentences in solitary (considered torture, even on adults, in most countries), and the death penalty (which almost all countries have abandoned), when most nations recognize the medical fact that our brains don't even finish developing until our mid-20s.

So, if that 17-year-old is asked out by a 35-year-old, many freak out and call him a child-molester and pedophile, a pervert and a predator, but if she kills the same 35-year-old on the street the same people call for her execution, or at the very least putting her on trial as an adult.

  16. Mike

    apples and oranges

I agree with you on the issue of sentencing youths as adults. Like I said, apples and oranges......different issue all together from a 30 yr old going for a 17 year old

as far as 55 and 37, the difference is that science shows 17yr old brains are still developing so it is a false comparison to 55 and 35

    flat out, Franco is creepy

  17. Note to David Beckham:

Please. Put it back on. It doesn't work anymore.

Beckham looks like he fell asleep at a party and people wrote all over him. The body is fine though.
