Homophobic Lobbyist: Any NFL Team That Drafts Michael Sam Will Be 'Roughed Up' by 'Relentless' Christian Boycott

Visa_sam

Earlier this year, Jack Burkman, a little-known D.C. lobbyist made national headlines after issuing a publicity stunt-ish press release saying he had support from five members of the House and a Senator for a non-starter bill that would ban gay players from the NFL.

BurkmanSaid Burkman in a statement in the release:

”We are losing our decency as a nation. Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That’s a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country. What in the world has this nation come to?”

"Burkman serves as founder and president of his own lobbying firm, Burkman Associates. He has also worked as of counsel at law firm Holland & Knight. In the 1990s, he served as counsel to then-Rep. Rick Lazio (R-N.Y.)," according to The Hill.

Yesterday, Burkman sent out a press release reacting to gay defensive end Michael Sam's possible entrance into the NFL during this week's draft, announcing that any team who chooses Michael Sam will face an immediate boycott from a national coalition of evangelical Christian leaders:

Jack Burkman, head of a top D.C. lobbying firm, who is pushing a bill that would ban openly gay players from the NFL and other professional sports, announced he will leverage his political clout to make sure that team gets roughed up financially.

“We shall exercise our First-Amendment rights and shall not stop until the drafting NFL franchise cannot sell a single ticket, jersey or autographed football,” says Burkman. “In short, we shall be relentless.”

Burkman LLC is now in the process of forming powerful grassroots organizations in 27 of the 50 states. He states that all of these organizations shall be vigorously deployed in the boycott. In addition, Burkman says his group is building a coalition of evangelical Christian leaders from across the nation to take part in a protest if Sam is drafted.

Although Burkman’s “American Decency Act of 2014″ has been widely discussed by both national and local news outlets, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL team owners have so far refused to weigh in. Sam himself weighed in on Twitter.

“The NFL may not fear boycotts from the populist right,” Burkman said. “The NFL like most of the rest of American business is about to learn that when you trample the Christian community and Christian values, there will be a terrible financial price to pay.”

In related news, last night VISA debuted the first ad in a new sponsorship deal with Michael Sam. VISA realizes, as any NFL team should, that hiring Michael Sam (aside from his skills as a football player) is great for business.

  2. I'd love to see a bunch of right wing wackos try to tear America away from the NFL. Talk about delusions of grandeur.

  6. Two points:

First, are these the same poor "loving" put-upon "christians" that the Benham twins (about 9 posts down) are so worried about?

Second - Seriously, the locker room showers again? I am a mature gay man and I have showered since my early teens in open showeres in gym locker rooms. Never once have I attempted to deflower/come on to a poor innocent straight boy - despite their fantasies they aren't that irresistible.

  8. Lets pause for a moment of silence to remember all once mighty corporations that have become extinct because Christians withheld their righteous dollars:
    Walt Disney
    General Mills
    JC Penney
    Target
    Starbucks

Few remember, but not so long ago there was a Starbucks on every corner, GM products filled the shelves of supermarkets and millions of people were entertained by Disney films, TV shows and theme parks every day.

Take heed, NFL, ban the faggots or you too will join these brands on the ash heap of history.

...and isn't it a shame that the USA no longer has an army, navy, air force or coast guard because Christians rightly refuse to serve (or shower) along side professed queers.

  9. It's nearly incomprehensible to me that this man, who operates his own somewhat successful business, is so utterly stupid. He seriously fears public showers!!??

  10. Really! If only christians would pour all of that energy into ending poverty and illiteracy, we'd all be much better off.

  11. LMFAO!
”...Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That’s a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country. What in the world has this nation come to?”

I'd like him to elaborate on this. Exactly what is so horrifying about showering with a gay man, and why? Do we have some kind of magical powers that turn str8 boys gay? Apparently, in Jack Burkman's world, str8 men have no self control and will instantly turn gay simply seeing or having been seen nude by gay men?? Or, more likely, gasp!...as "moral men" the idea of being objectified or seen as sex objects is horrifying because it's what they are supposed to do to women.

  12. I don't normally go for the "he's a closet case" stuff, but I just have a feeling this guy would jump at the chance to give Michael Sam the blow job of his life......

  13. This man is really pathetic and he seems kind of obsessed with Michael Sam (i don't remember him saying a word about Jason Collins playing the NBA)

  14. @burkman. Imagine your gay son being forced to endure your disdain for him and being FORCED to participate in a NORMAL marrige destroying countless lives

  16. It will probably be as successful as the boycotts organized by Talibangelicals against Disney, Starbucks, J.C. Penny's and Microsoft.

  17. The NFL plays over 88% of their games on Sunday: Shouldn't all those Christians be in church anyway? Isn't honoring the Sabbath on their top ten list?

Other than that, seconding what verbocityeric said: I miss going to Disney World.

  18. What's the old saying, "he's so far in the closet he's finding Christmas presents"

  19. More of the same tired old threats. Corporate America broke through this wall of 'Christian Boycott' long ago! I remember when my company, American Airlines stepped 'out' - United as well, in spite of many such threats, soon other Airlines followed, other companies followed. This was over 'inclusion' of sexual orientation within our non discrimination policies. Every time I hear of another push 'gay agenda' bullying issue, now the tide has turned, I can't help but laugh. Burkman has a gay brother, he's just so not happy about that!

  20. Relax. He's not the head of anythjng, he's self-employed. His 'evangelical' clients are nameless. If he worked in Florida we'd have already dismissed this this hilarity. At it's best, it's pretense that a lobbyist could create legislation that would target ONE American business, never mind a cooperative of billionaires, with a Federal law or even a county one. Even One Million Moms has missed him.

  22. this is a classic example of how anti gay's dehumanize homosexual people = someone's gay son becomes a gay man ( predator ) while those other teens who are hetro remain some ones child .

  23. oh please has anyone looked at and seen how effective those boycotts by the christian right have been . just ask ford , disney , home depot the airlines

  24. Didn't some women accuse Burkman of offering them money for sex??

  25. When anti-gays boycott, it's a good thing. When gays boycott, it's a bad thing. Why? Jesus Jesus Jeeeeeeeeesus
