Austrian Drag Performer Conchita Wurst Moves into Eurovision Final: VIDEO

Austrian drag performer has moved into the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Independent reports:

Before the show, Ms Wurst hit back at critics, including Russian politician Vitaly Milonov (the author of the ban on gay 'propaganda'_, who called her a “pervert.”

“I can only say ‘Thank you for your attention!’” she told the Associated Press.

“If this is only about me and my person, I can live with it. I'm just a singer in a fabulous dress, with great hair and a beard," she added.

The nine other countries to qualify on Thursday at the show in Denmark’s capital city, Copenhagen, were: Switzerland, Slovenia, Poland, Romania, Norway, Greece, Malta, Belarus and Finland.

Check out a very amusing interview with Wurst during the competition, as the host jokes about her last name and says she would like to share a sausage together later, AFTER THE JUMP...

  5. I wonder if she'd appreciate being billed as a "Drag Performer." Seems a bit reductionist to me.

  6. Great performance and that staging was ON POINT. Exactly enough, really synced well with the power of the song.

It was very heartening to hear all the cheering the audience did for Conchita - I caught the tail end of the semi finals but missed her performance. By the way they have a Eurovision app which has info on the performers and acts as a viewing companion.

  7. I believe she identifies as gender-f**k, not as a drag performer.

  9. @ sam

Oh no she doesn't. In her own words "on stage I'm a working girl, in my own free time i'm a lazy young man".

Drag is a quintessential component of gay culture. Stop trying to put it under the queer "umbrella".
