Big Brother’s Frankie Reveals to Houseguests His Sister is Pop Star Ariana Grande: VIDEO

Zank

Openly gay Big Brother 16 contestant Frankie Grande, who's been busy this summer cozying up to all the good-looking straight men in the house, has so far been keeping a big secret from the other houseguests: he's the half-brother of pop star Ariana Grande.

"Who?" – those over a certain age might be asking. Well she's the singer of the hit summer song "Problems" with Iggy Azalea and also starred in the Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious a few years back. There you go, all caught up.

Screen Shot 2014-08-10 at 10.32.56 AMAnyhow, Frankie realized his fame-connection secret was "eating his soul away" and decided to spill the beans to the rest of the house late Friday.

This video just disturbed me on about 8 different levels. The existence of the show. The fame of Ariana Grande. The bragging but about something that’s not braggable. The when the girl freaks out because he’s met Justin Bieber. so so many wrong wrong things.

Frankie realized that keeping a secret about his “famous” half-sister (that nobody over 16 has heard of) was “eating his soul away”? And he now feels compelled to “reveal his TRUE identity”? And now a couple houseguests might not vote him out because they want to be introduced to Justin Bieber?

I may not be remembering this correctly because I don’t watch this show. But, I thought this season of Big Brother had announced before their start-up that one of the house mates this season was supposed to be a well recognized HUGE anti-gay bigot. Why haven’t we heard anything from him?

  5. JMC says

Awkward attempts at snarky celebrity put downs that just make people look clueless are so cringeworthy. The girl has two songs in the top 10 right now and one of them has been there for months. Her fame extends past high school sophomores to anyone who is at all cognizant of popular music. I know Towleroad readership skews older but try and do better, guys.

Anon, the bigot house guest (Caleb) turned out not to be a bigot. Just some blogs over reacting to his tweets. Guys correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve seen gif of him and Frankie getting pretty cozy. Not as cozy was Frankie and Zach, but close.

  7. Jeffy says

She’s a big celebrity right now and the reason he’s on the show. Self-absorbed witty twinks are a dime a dozen, the sister is why he’s there. I’m just happy he got this dark secret off his chest and can now live an authentic life.

  8. David says

Only someone obsessed with celebrity culture would allow this minor detail about his life to be “eating his soul away”. Is this how he defines himself, as someone connected to someone famous?
This shows how very shallow he is, and it could possibly cost him the competition.

I guess souls come in snack-size, too. Who knew!?!?!

@BILLY, I’ve seen reports of his tweets now. And, gotta say that only a racist bigot would refer to Obama as a muslim monkee and use anti-gay slurs in political discussions. Just because he’s keeping it in-check now doesn’t mean it isn’t in his heart. Anti-gay slurs aren’t your go-to pejoratives when angry if they aren’t what you actually think.

I love how smug and stupid people sound when they offer “Ariana who?” when there’s a Google search at the top of their browser.

    Cool story, bro.

  12. Yawn says

Frankie is an embarrassment as a person and a gay man. He’s a walking stereotype as well as a jerk, liar, and annoying. Trying to cash in on his little sister’s success and then claiming he’s a “media mogul” only tops this poop cake.

“This shows how very shallow he is,”

It shows how shallow the entire culture of reality TV is. Though I sometimes permit myself to watch Amazing Race. That’s the least awful of all of them.

  14. EchtKultig says

I actually watched it a moment ago, I wasn’t going to. It’s in some region way beyond being unintentionally hilarious. It feels like some Sascha Baron Cohen/Chris Lilley parody of a reality show, not an actual reality show. But at this point that’s probably what the writers (yes, it is written) of Big Brothers are aiming for, so perhaps it’s oddly brilliant.

  15. Joe says

He makes me ill. The way he’s played up to all the straight guys in the house this summer…ack. Steven Daigle ended up turning into a gay porn star, he was on BB10. When he was on the show, he was a rodeo rider…after BB10, he ended up in porn. But Steven wasn’t anywhere near as obnoxious as Francis Grande. He was a bad choice by the producers this year.

  16. John says

Actually, Frankie planned this reveal BEFORE he even went into the house. He thought he would do best if he revealed the connection once people started to get on the jury. All calculated for maximum benefit for him.

  17. Liam says

What was eating him up was not just who his sister is but also this online life he has. He is a big youtuber and twitter user. People of a certain age follow him (he has over a million you tube followers and the same on Twitter.) I think he was afraid someone would recognize him in the house and they would think he is rich and famous so doesnt “deserve” the money or to win. And guess what? That is what everyone is saying behind his back now.
It made him a little crazy and paranoid and so he did some stupid things int he house. He literally had no other move left other than to reveal the truth about himself and see it that would change things for him. It remains to be seen if it works or not. I think he has completely made up with Zack. The others will vote with him or against him depending on who is a bigger threat to them week to week. As it always is. Any little thing can change everything in the Big Brother house. A little rumor or misconception about someone can be blown way out of proportion and can change everything. So yeah, this was a pretty big deal int he house. It is all any one has been talking about since it happened.
