Transgender LGBT Advocate Allyson Robinson Ordained Baptist Minister - VIDEO

LGBT advocate and army veteran Allyson Robinson became one of the few openly transgender pastors in the U.S. when she was ordained last month at Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., reports Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

6a00d8341c730253ef019103bcd4ff970c-800wiSharon Groves, HRC’s Director of Religion and Faith Program, said:

"We at HRC who have had the privilege of working with her for years are excited to see her gifts put to good use at Calvary Baptist Church.

"Allyson Robinson is a born preacher and pastor who inspires everyone she meets. I have had the privilege of working closely with her and with Calvary Baptist Church, which is leading to new conversations among Baptists and all people of faith. Together they are one powerful combination.

"As summer comes to an end and families are coming back to church after their summer break, they would do well to check out the prophetic ministry happening at Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C."

Last year, Robinson featured in and acted as a consultant on web-funded series TransMilitary, which focused on the unique struggles of transgender service members on active duty. She was the first transgender leader of a national LGBT rights organization until she was asked last year to resign as executive director of LGBT military group Outserve_SLDN.

Robinson is also founder of boutique consulting firm Warrior Poet Strategies and Vice President at LGBT Tech Partnership.

  1. BRAVO! Allyson is wonderful - compassionate, articulate, intelligent and driven. I've had the pleasure and honour of marching alongside her at various events over the years - she's a wonderful wonderful and inspiring woman. And with this, no doubt bridging a gap for those whose old-world religious faith needs a nice introduction to the beauty of modernity and reality.

    kudos, allyson.

  2. Who still cares about religion ? Why is the LGBT community still wanting validation from these ridiculous religions ?

Religions are just a BIG BUSINESS created to make money and they PAY NO TAXES. They don't have the magic answer to anything ! GROW UP people !

  3. As if the Baptists want a tranny minister queering up services. LGB is hard enough to make palatable to the straight masses without these Trans freaks being invited along for the ride.

But typical the bitter, rapidly deteriorating, self-described "queer" Raymond Miller, aka, Little Kiwi, feels the need to make this all about him. The troll from Toronto, who once had the audacity to make a pass at me (which I immediately rejected) isn't part of this tranny celebration. No one here can stand him, his self-righteous, arrogant attitude, or the hatred he vents at everyone who disagrees with him. Though I'm sure the trannies would welcome him into their ranks after seeing the pics on his blog of him prancing about in women's panties.

Poor Raymond! At least, he still has his anger to serve as his lifetime companion! And weirdos.

  5. Her ordination was sanctioned by the virulently anti-LGBT Southern Baptist Convention? I'm confused if it was.

  7. Who says "make a pass" anymore? Welcome to Pleasantville.

  8. HadEnough, the Calvary Baptist Church severed ties with the SBC in 2012.

  9. @THEDRDONNA: thank you for that clarification. For a moment I thought we were all in the "Twilight Zone". I'm glad to know there indeed are modern Baptists in the USA!

  10. Congratulations, Allyson! @Icebloo: Some LGBT people are religious, and their reasons for being religious don't necessarily have to do with validation. Like it or not, religion is here to stay. Though I'm not religious, I'd rather LGBT voices be present rather than absent in religion.

@Troye: That alleged "pass" in--when was it, 2004?-- really left a mark on you! You immediately rejected it, yet are still waxing nostalgic 10 years later ... Odd, that.

  11. Troye, Rick and ratbastard: If you are going to be a bigoted troll, at least TRY to do better than cutting and pasting the same ignorant drivel under your sockpuppet aliases.

Granted, that may be a bit much to expect from you.

  12. For those of us who are tempted to say "who cares about religion?" please keep in mind that this church severed its ties with the Southern Baptist Convention some time ago. It represents territory taken from the enemy, the ruling body of the Southern Baptist Convention. Is that crass enough for you (and me)?

  13. Lol! Look at the propaganda. This trans activist ran Outserve into the ground in record time. An Exec Dir is supposed to be able to raise money. Robinson failed, as trans activists tend to do. The group was insolvent when it departed. Of course Jim Redmond and Towleroad ignore this, just as they ignore the torrent of negative news about trans activists.

Good luck Cavalry Baptist. Look forward to reading about the bankruptcy filing!

  14. I would be interested in knowing what denomination (if any) Calvary is affiliated with: I cannot imagine it is one of the many fundamentalist ones like the Southern Baptist Convention or the American Baptist Churches USA.

  15. Hey all. Real Troye here. I didn't post the comments above. It seems that Little Kiwi has this new obsession and it involves posting fake comments from me and then posting the identical comment immediately afterwards under Rick's name. I guess the goal is to make it seem like I am Rick. Or something. Anyway, he did the very same thing yesterday and is doing it again today.

He's sick. He is an absolute freak. I hope none of you ever have to deal with him in person. Because I did. He is every bit as creepy and unpleasant and disrespectful IRL as he is here.

  16. Oh hey, Helene. If memory serves me right, you're the alias Rick brings out only for Trans stories to call trans activists failures, "trannies" and say other hateful things about the Trans community. "You" have been gone awhile. I guess Rick got the dress he wears when he comments as you back from the cleaners.

Rick, must you be so obvious?

  17. Every time Allyson is on TV she perfectly makes her statements in a clear and direct way that is both emotionally-connected and intellectually on point. She's a real dynamo.

Troll - nobody believes you, get a better hobby.

as for the religious angle - it's one of those things: i wish more folks were simply free-thinkers. for those who aren't (yet) - it's wonderful to have people like Allyson, and countless other LGBT and LGBT-inclusive allies helping bridge the gap.

check out this heartbreaker of a video (not, it's not me..) - a religious family explaining just how and why they are disowning their gay son. this is why affirming religious outlets are so very very vital.

  18. Contrary to popular belief, religious fundamentalists are often very supportive of sex reassignment surgery. The ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa endorsing it in 1987. It's currently performed frequently in Iran as a "treatment" for homosexuality. It can be though of as a way of enforcing gender roles. It's not surprising that some of the Islamists' ideological counterparts in Christianity also support it.

  19. What a fine big manly jaw she has.

    Is she L or B?

If not then why is this being reported?

    Posted by: MaryM | Aug 28, 2014 4:06:41 PM

  20. If Trans stories bother you so much "MaryM" (aka Rick in a frilly frock and a pair of sensible heels), then why keep coming here? It's clear Andy and his staff are dedicated to reporting Trans stories. And since you have no say in the matter (you're quite impotent), why bother even showing up to complain?

Oh right: it's because your a pinhead bigot troll with no life.

  22. @ "and a pair of sensible heels)..."

    LOL LOL

Flats or sandals (she'd trip in heels) Probably a woman's size 15, and that shoe size has nothing to do with what she has inside her jokey shorts.

  23. It's great that Baptists are changing a little, but the fundamental flaw is still there... like all the Abrahamic religions, they took a book of fairy tales, and embraced the villain in it.

    Posted by: Randy | Aug 28, 2014 4:58:37 PM

  24. Lol! Check out those bangs! They aren't drooping in front of its face like that for no reason. It lets the bangs grow to hide its manly sloping brow. ROTFLMAO!
