Kate McKinnon Debuts Her Power-Hungry Hillary Clinton Impression on SNL Cold Open: VIDEO

Clinton

On SNL's cold open, Kate McKinnon debuted her Hillary Clinton impression with a funny skit of the former First Lady discussing the recent email controversy, her 2016 presidential aspirations, and her Instagram – all while attempting to be just a regular old "relatable woman on a couch."

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP

What'd you think of McKinnon's Clinton? Love it or prefer the Amy Poehler days?

The thing about HRC is that she’s not the kind of person that’s easy to imitate, so it’s really all about the writing. Amy’s version was great, but not a good “impression.” I feel the same about Kate’s version. What I WILL say is that Kate is a great impressionist (Tabatha Coffey, Justin Bieber, enough said…)

Also, I’ve been WAITING for them to give Kate more stuff to do. I’ve loved her since her Big Gay Sketch Show days (the show sucked, but she and a few others were really awesome on it!) I know there are probably a bunch of copyright/intellectual property issues involved, but I’d LOOOOVE to see her bring Fitzwilliam (the British schoolboy who wants nothing more than to have a vagina!) to SNL and its wider audience. Alas, I’m sure that’ll never happen…

    What L’HERB said!

I love Kate so much, I give her a complete pass as she tries out new material because she always gets it right on the nose. She outshines everyone on the show, she reminds me of Carol Burnett sometimes.

Love Kate. Very funny. We all have nostalgia for Amy. But, give her a chance, people! These characters develop over time. Still, it was a good cold open.

She’s not even thirty and she’s already a comedy treasure. Even when she has bad writing or nothing to do, she comes up with something brilliant and insanely committed and makes her presence essential. I want Hilary to be president just so we can watch Kate’s SNL version.

And much as I adore Poehler, Hilary was never one of her stronger impressions/characters. So as of now, McKinnon pretty much owns Hilary.
