If you knew nothing about Eric Stonestreet other than his performance as Modern Family's flamboyant Cameron Tucker, you'd probably assume that the actor was, in fact a gay man. According to Stonestreet, a straight, married man, however, his experience with gay men growing up was rather limited. Stonestreet, a native of Kansas, had little to no interaction with anyone who identified as LGBT. Since joining the cast of Modern Family in 2009, though, Stonestreet feels as if his interactions with the gay community have grown exponentially and changed his life.
“I'm more on the front lines of what it means to stand up for peoples' equality and to try people that you don't choose to be gay,” he explained in an interview with the Huffington Post. "I'm just more active in that community and I feel a little bit more responsible for people's words and actions," he said.
