After 16 years at the helm of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart bid an emotional, final farewell to satirical news last night. Joined by his many correspondents over the years, including Steve Carell and future replacement Trevor Noah, Stewart was able to get a good look at all the lives he changed and comedic careers he helped kick off.
But it was soon-to-be Late Show host Stephen Colbert's off-script thank you for hiring him that had Stewart at a loss:
“All of us who were lucky enough to work with you for 16 years are better at our jobs because we got to watch you do yours. And we are better people for having known you…I do not know what I would do if you hadn't brought me on the show! I'd be back on those hills mining turds with Pappy.”
