Ireland Baldwin Defends Her Father from Homophobia Charges on Twitter

In a series of tweets, Ireland Baldwin (Alec's daughter from Kim Basinger) defended her father on Twitter over the weekend, writing:

Ireland_baldwinSometimes we let our tempers get the best of us. Tempers are like wildfires. Something or someone can easily fuel the fire...It takes a lot of strength for someone to release their anger. It takes a lot of strength and SUPPORT for someone to grow and become a......better person. We all say things we don't mean. We all say things we can't take back...For someone who has battled with anger management issues, my dad has grown tremendously. My dad is far from a homophobe or a racist. From what you've read and from what media has been shoved down your throats, he has a kind heart. Having paparazzi following my mom and I has not been thrilling. Paparazzi can bring out many confined feelings of anger and spite out of anyone.

My point being, what my dad said was WRONG. What my dad felt WASN'T. Boundaries have to be made. Paparazzi have jobs to do, but some of them jeopardize people's lives and cross a line. My dad has an INFANT CHILD to protect. All the parents out there should understand. You would do anything to protect your baby. Now, let's all quit acting like children. Let my dad be and let him have his room to learn and enjoy his family. As someone very wise once said, "Be peaceful and love everyone" COME ONNNN EVERYONE. Let's just all be thankful that we are alive!

Baldwin's tweets appeared as the actor was defending himself of charges he is a "homophobic bigot" in a blog post at the Huffington Post.

Alec Baldwin: I'm Not a 'Homophobic Bigot'

Alec Baldwin defends himself of charges he is a "homophobic bigot" in a new Huffington Post piece.

A_baldwinWrites Baldwin, in part:

I never used the word faggot in the tape recording being offered as evidence against me. What word is said right after the other choice word I use is unclear. But I can assure you, with complete confidence, that a direct homophobic slur (or indirect one for that matter) is not spoken. In the wake of referring to a tabloid "journalist" as a toxic queen, I would never allow myself to make that mistake again, nor would I expose my wife and family to the attendant ridicule...

He offers some praise for MSNBC's lesbian host:

I think Rachel Maddow is perhaps the single most important television journalist on the air today. And if my show does disappear, I will be grateful in so far as her good work, along with that of O'Donnell and Hayes and Sharpton and Matthews and Jansing, will not be sullied by my problem.

He says he's afraid for himself and his family because of paparazzi:

I am concerned for my family. In Bloomberg's New York, forty or fifty paparazzi are allowed to block streets, inconvenience homeowners, workers and shoppers, and make life miserable for my neighbors. Photographers have tripped and fallen on babies in strollers on my block. They have nearly struck my wife in the face with microphones. They provoke me, daily, by getting dangerously close to me with their cameras as weapons, hoping I will react.

He says he's a philanthropist:

Oddly, my foundation has donated over $11 million of a projected $15 million from revenue from my recent Capital One ads. Many people don't know that and when informed actually find it hard to believe.

Gay Hairdresser Defends Alec Baldwin, Says Gays Love Him Even More Now: VIDEO

Alec Baldwin Suspended Two Weeks for Gay Slur

MSNBC has suspended Alec Baldwin and his show Up Late for two weeks following outrage over his use of a homophobic slur, USA Today reports:

BaldwinBut GLAAD says the move is not enough. "Alec Baldwin still needs to take real action," the organization's vice president of communications, Rich Ferraro, said tonight in a statement. "MSNBC has sent a message that anti-gay slurs carry consequences, and that's an important standard to uphold at a time when LGBT people continue to face disproportionate levels of bullying and violence just because of who they are."

Said Baldwin in a statement on

I would like to address the comments I made this past week.

I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand “Up Late” will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.

I want to apologize to my loyal fans and to my colleagues at msnbc – both for my actions and for distracting from their good work. Again, please accept my apology.

Alec Baldwin Uses His Gay Hairdresser to Prove He's Not a Homophobe

Responding to a firestorm of criticism after he was caught calling a photographer a "c--ksucking fag" yesterday, Alec Baldwin brought his gay hairdresser out to the sidewalk today to demonstrate that he's not a homophobe.

TMZ, who broke yesterday's story, writes:

Alec Baldwin just played the, "I have a gay friend" card ... putting his male hairdresser on the spot in front of reporters to vouch for his non-homophobia. It's shameless, it's desperate ... and quite frankly, it's sad.

It wreaks of "dance monkey, dance" ... with Alec asking him straight up -- "Am I a homophobe?"

TMZ then spoke with the hairdresser, who said:

"I don’t think he’s homophobic. I don’t at all. Whenever he is in here, we are always talking and cutting hair. He booked an appointment for today, he always does and he is a good tipper.”

What Should be Done About Alec Baldwin's Ongoing Homophobic Outbursts?

GLAAD condemned Alec Baldwin yesterday after the actor was caught calling a photographer a "c**ksucking fag" on camera.

"Mr. Baldwin can’t lend his support for equality on paper, while degrading gay people in practice. It's clearly time Mr. Baldwin listens to the calls from so many LGBT people and allies to end this pattern of anti-gay slurs."

What follow-up the organization will take remains to be seen....

Baldwin tweeted again last night:

"Anti-gay slurs are wrong. They not only offend, but threaten hard fought tolerance of LGBT rights...I'm grateful to all of the ppl I meet + hear from who recognize that I would never say something to offend my friends in the gay community...1-Rich Ferraro from @glaad informs me that c'sucker is an anti-gay epithet. In which case I apologize and will retire it from my vocabulary."

How do you feel Alec Baldwin should be punished for his latest outburst? Do his continued slurs involving gay people reveal that although he's a liberal, he's deep down also a homophobe?

Feel free to make your thoughts known in the comments.
