Chris Kluwe Joins Anderson Cooper and Chris Hayes to Discuss Vikings Homophobia Claims: VIDEO

Kluwe_anderson

Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe joined CNN's Anderson Cooper and MSNBC's Chris Hayes last night to discuss claims he made last week regarding homophobia at the Minnesota Vikings organization and objections to his gay rights advocacy which eventually led to him being released from the team.

"I made sure that I had witnesses because that's a very easy defamation of character case and it would be pretty easy for him to prevail in a court of law...I am 100% confident in everything I related is how it happened and really encouraged by the fact that the Vikings are taking it seriously and opening an investigation because I think once they talk with people they'll find out what happened."

Anderson noted that the investigation does not have subpoena power so it's up to players to cooperate and asks Kluwe if he thinks players will come forward.

"I'm confident because it's the right thing to do. One thing that I'm going to push for is there must be anonymity for these witnesses because being black-balled in the NFL is a very real possibility and this is not something I'm going to force my friends to submit to..."

Said Kluwe to Hayes about the possibility of an openly gay player coming out sometime soon:

"This doesn't just happen to me. This happens to millions of people across the country. But things are getting better. Progress is being made. At the same time, we can't just be content with the progress that's been made. We have to strive for more progress so that when that player does come out they know that they have support..."

Dan Savage: Phil Robertson's Racism is Much More Offensive Than His Anti-gay Comments - VIDEO

Screen Shot 2013-12-24 at 7.20.34 AM

Dan Savage stopped by Anderson Cooper's CNN show last week to weigh in on the Duck Dynasty controversy and his thoughts on why Phil Robertson isn't getting as much blowback for the racist comments he made in the now-infamous GQ interview as he did for the anti-gay remarks.

Said Savage:

I actually thought what he said about African-Americans in the South under Jim Crow was so much more offensive. At a time when an African-American looked funny at a white person they could be lynched, oddly enough he never heard any of them complaining to him about the circumstances...but this is America and sex is [something] we'd rather be talking about than race or anything else. So the fact that he invoked gay people's rear ends means that's going to be the conversation instead of the really patently offensive, absurdly revisionist things he said about African-Americans."

Anderson Cooper, Andrew Sullivan Blast Alec Baldwin for Homophobic Slur: VIDEO

Baldwin_cooper

Anderson Cooper stepped up his criticism of Alec Baldwin in a Monday night segment that also featured blogger Andrew Sullivan, who last week wrote several posts criticizing Baldwin for calling a photographer a "c--ksucking fag".

Said Cooper to his panel:

"If Alec Baldwin had yelled the N word to that photographer or yelled an anti-Jewish slur against that photographer, it would be over. But the F word is a word that kids are called in school every single day. Teachers often do nothing about it."

Added Sullivan:

"And it's important to note that all this stuff is laced with a threat of violence. All of these instances are also about 'I'm going to get you.'"

Baldwin's show was suspended for two weeks by MSNBC over his use of the slur. In a Huffington blog post over the weekend, he defended himself of charges he is a "homophobic bigot", but also couldn't resist a potshot at Anderson, saying:

But if the show dies, its fate ends up being no different than the vast majority of start-up TV programming, and so be it. We do take a small amount of pride in knowing that we beat CNN in the ratings each of our nights. (I forget who they had on at that time.)

Anderson Cooper Rips Pat Robertson's Gay AIDS Ring Claims: VIDEO

Cooper

Pat Robertson finds his way to Anderson Cooper's 'Ridiculist' for his claims this week that gay people wear special rings designed to cut people during a handshake so they can then transmit the AIDS virus.

Said Robertson:

...You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay community there they want to get people so if they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger. Really. It’s that kind of vicious stuff, which would be the equivalent of murder."

Says Anderson: "I've never seen that particular section at Zales."

Anderson then goes on to mock some of Robertson's other recent off-the-wall remarks.

Glenn Greenwald and David Miranda Talk to Anderson Cooper About Miranda's Detention: VIDEO

Miranda_greenwald

Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald and his partner David Miranda spoke to Anderson Cooper last night about Miranda's detention by UK officials for nine hours at Heathrow Airport over the weekend as he returned home from Rio de Janeiro from Berlin.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP....

Miranda, who had been visiting Laura Poitras, the documentary filmmaker who broke the Edward Snowden story with Greenwald in The Guardian, had his electronics confiscated.

Greenwald_mirandaMiranda, who was held under the Terrorism Act, tells Cooper that he was not asked any questions about terrorism but feared the broad powers the U.S. and its allies now have to hold potential suspects indefinitely. Greenwald said it was "terrorizing" to get a call from a British official saying “the person you love most in the world and with whom you share your life” was being detained.

Added Greenwald:

“Every single newsroom in the United State, every single major news organization in the world, has classified information...Reporting on what governments do in the secret is what journalism is about. So if you support the idea that states can just go and confiscate from journalists classified information, you should be demanding the government can go into newsrooms and seize whatever classified information is there...Journalism is not a crime and it’s not terrorism.”

In a post-interview debate, CNN commentator and attorney Jeffrey Toobin compared Miranda to a "drug mule", an assertion Jesselyn Radack from the Government Accountability Project shot down:

“David was serving as an in-between, not as a drug mule. I have to wonder why the U.S. government and our allies are so desperate to keep our illegalities secret and our lawbreaking secret, that they are willing to use a terrorism law to stop a journalist.”
