Andy Roddick Auctions Off Nude Tennis Lesson for $15,000

Roddick

At Elton John's recent Advanta World Team Tennis Smash Hits AIDS benefit, Andy Roddick put a very special tennis lesson up for auction.

"Several stars and tennis legends were there, including Andy Roddick, who went well beyond the call of duty to help raise money. He originally was going to auction a private, hour-long tennis lesson to the highest bidder. Then, to sweeten the deal, he offered to take off his shirt for the 'one-on-one instruction.' Finally, the recently engaged Roddick offered to give the lesson -- fully nude! Winning bid: $15,000 from a female fan."

Novak Djokovic Booed After U.S. Open Victory Over Roddick

Roddick_nole

Novak Djokovic was booed last night by the U.S. Open crowd after his 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) quarter-final victory for commenting on a joke by Andy Roddick that he was faking more than 16 injuries.

Djokovic later apologized: "Unfortunately, Andy made a statement, and I don't think it was intentional. He made a joke and it was a misunderstanding. I exaggerated and I reacted bad in that moment. I apologise if I reacted like that. It was just impulsive and I had a lot of emotions in the last two days."

No worries. All's well in the world of tennis hotties.

Tommy Lee Gresham, 30, of Cobb County is facing a charge of aggravated assault, Atlanta police Officer Darlene Harris said. The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him Tuesday afternoon after a Cobb County police officer spotted the wanted man and followed him home. Greshman, nicknamed 'Stretch,' is accused of shooting at two young men Oct. 19 outside the WETbar, located on Spring Street, after he followed them from a nearby gas station. Neither man was seriously hurt; one had a graze wound and the other was hit by ricocheting shrapnel, Harris said."

Some protesters also wrote the Canadian government asking that aid be cut to Grenada's Port of St. Georges where cruise ships dock, she added. 'This does not augur well for our tourism sector.' She said: 'We will continue to welcome all visitors and we will work, along with our population, to ensure that their time and ours will be enjoyable. Grenada respects the rights of all persons of all persuasions and lifestyles.' Left unmentioned was that homosexual relations remain illegal in Grenada. The government's position was reached 'following several days of consultations on the matter involving tourism officials and various stakeholders,' the minister's statement said."

Ufomoonroad.jpg UFO Moons: "Two of Saturn's small moons look eerily like flying saucers, new observations by the Cassini spacecraft reveal. The moons, which lie within the giant planet's rings, may have come by their strange shape by gradually accumulating ring particles in a ridge around their equators. The Voyager spacecraft discovered the moons, called Pan and Atlas, in the early 1980s. Pan, which is 33 kilometres wide, orbits Saturn within a gap in the planet's A ring called the Encke Division (scroll down for image), while the 39-km-wide Atlas orbits just outside the A ring. Both moons have a flattened shape, being wider than they are tall. But their uncanny resemblance to UFOs only became clear recently, when Cassini viewed them with its powerful cameras."

Terra Cotta Tennis Warriors Unveiled in Shanghai: Federer, Nadal, Davydenko, Djokovic, Roddick, Ferrer, Gonzalez, Gasquet

Novak Djokovic

In September I posted about the upcoming Shanghai ATP Tennis Masters tournament and the Chinese warrior statues that were being created by French sculptor Laury Dizengremel in the likenesses of the tourney's "elite eight". The warriors, of course, are meant to resemble the terra cotta army buried with the Emperor of Qin in 210-209 BC.

Well, the tournament got underway yesterday and the sculptures were unveiled. Here they are in all their glory. I can't say that the likenesses are necessarily spot-on (Novak Djokovic comes out looking a bit like Lance Bass) but the player portraits are hot. I've taken some close-ups of the Quentin Shih photograph for your perusal.

News: Venezuela, Andy Roddick, Melting Glaciers, Lynne Cheney

road.jpg STUDY: America's youth rejecting Christianity because of hypocrisy and homophobia. "A new book based on research by the California-based research firm The Barna Group found that church attitudes about people in general and gays in particular are driving a negative image of the Christian faith among people ages 16-29. 'The Christian community's ability to take the high road and help to deal with some of the challenges that this (anti-gay) perception represents may be the ... defining response of the Christian church in the next decade,' said David Kinnaman, Barna Group president and author of the book, UnChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks About Christianity. 'The anti-homosexual perception has now become sort of the Geiger counter of Christians' ability to love and work with people.'"

And the difference in these two cases was that although I was extremely tough on Clinton, there was never any attempt to silence me — whereas there was a concerted effort by [Vice President Cheney’s office] to silence me. It came in the form of three different people calling trying to quiet me."

Warhol Estate Sued Over "Stranglehold" on the Art Market

Joe Simon-Whelan, an American filmmaker based in London, is leading a class-action suit against the Andy Warhol Estate, foundation, and authentication board, claiming they have conspired to hold the art world hostage in order to manipulate profits on their own collection.

Andy_warhol_authentic_3Simon-Whelan claims that the authentication board refuses to legitimize Warhols owned by private collectors in order to inflate the value of its own assets.

Reports the Guardian: "So powerful is the art world's reliance on the authentication board's opinion that, in today's art market, no one can sell a Warhol that does not have the board's opinion of authenticity. As such, it indisputably dominates and controls the Warhol market."

Simon-Whelan says he attempted to have a Warhol he owns authenticated, but was denied twice, even though it bears a note by the late executor of the estate Fred Hughes, which reads "I certify that this is an original painting by Andy Warhol completed by him in 1964." Simon-Whelan also has a letter from Warhol factory photographer Billy Name, verifying the work's authenticity.

Simon-Whelan bought the work in 1989 for $195,000 and had hoped to sell it for $2 million, but wasn't able to without the authentication board's endorsement: "The legal action estimates the foundation has sold more than $150m of Warhol's work at inflated prices, and calls for $20m in compensation on behalf of Simon-Whelan and other unnamed alleged victims."

Vincent Fremont, head of sales at the Warhol estate, has dismissed Simon-Whelan's claims as "shocking nonsense".

Andy Roddick Responds to Men's Fitness Cover Image

RoddickAndy Roddick has posted a response on his blog to the recent Men's Fitness cover story on him which featured a bigger, stronger, buffer version of the world's #3 player, and apparently the Photoshop job was as obvious to Roddick as it was to everyone else.

Said Roddick:

"I spent the last few weeks in Austin really focused on my training and getting back into shape…but pretty sure I’m not as fit as the Men’s Fitness cover suggests…little did I know I have 22 inch guns and a disappearing birth mark on my right arm. I saw the cover for the first time when I landed after Rome…it was pretty funny…I walked by the newsstand in the airport and did a total double take …I can barely figure out how to work the red-eye tool on my digital camera…whoever did this has mad skills…maybe Rafael Nadal wants his arms back?…if you can manage to stop laughing at the cover long enough, check out the article inside, the photo shoot on the boat was pretty cool..and I recognize the person in those photos…"

News: Borat Frat Boys, Palm Springs, Heroes Closet Case, Nigeria

road.jpg Nigeria may pass legislation banning any form of association between gay people, including dining together at a restaurant: "Other activities prohibited under the proposed law include belonging to gay clubs or reading books, watching films or accessing Internet sites that 'promote' homosexuality." Opposition is scant because of fear of reprisal from the government and religious groups.

'Those sort of crimes are generally under reported and that's one of the key drivers in us setting up this network,' he said. 'So we can do better at helping and supporting the gay community in dealing with those things.'"

road.jpg Same-sex shenanigans from the Toronto set of Hairspray: "a certain young male Hairspray star has left one local lad heartbroken. Sources say the two met midway through production and ended up spending many quiet nights together in the actor’s Minto Yorkville suite. Promises to stay in touch were reportedly made but since filming ended the teen star hasn’t called or e-mailed his Canuck lover."

Zachroad.jpg Did NBC send its gay character Zach from Heroes back into the closet? "Two scenarios seem the mostly likely: for unknown reasons, NBC suddenly shied away from the idea of a gay character. Or Dekker's management wanted Zach to be straight."

road.jpg Civil Partnerships prepare to celebrate first anniversary in Britain: "Civil partnerships have quickly and seamlessly become a feature of British national life. The statistics are compelling: more than 15,500 couples registered civil partnerships in the period from last December to September this year, suggesting that government predictions of 22,000 partnerships by 2010 are a huge underestimate. But perhaps more significant is that among the 15,500 pledging their union were a cabinet member - Ben Bradshaw, the Fisheries minister - and among those planning to tie the knot are Adam and Ian from The Archers, which, lest we forget, is 'an everyday story of country folk'."

road.jpg Team Garbage welcomes Boy George. New York Department of Sanitation spokesman Keith Mellis: "He will be part of our team. We won't know exactly what he will be doing for several weeks, though." Incidentally, the Boy and his agent are being sued by Miami HIV/AIDS organization Care Resource for taking nearly $15,000 in payment and then backing out of performing at the White Party following his New York drug bust. Kind of ironic pathetic considering George has been moaning about doing work for people with AIDS as his community service rather than rake leaves.

Roddick_tongueroad.jpg Wimbledon hottie Andy Roddick feels threatened by the man purse: "I have seen some guys walking around with man purses here in London.... anything bigger than a money clip or a wallet is to be left to your girlfriend / wife...and just so we are clear you should not be able to throw your "wallet" over a shoulder...if you have a man purse, the wall is waiting." Perhaps Andy should look inside the man purse to see if that's where his mojo is...

road.jpg Brace yourselves for Round 2 of Truman Capote. The second biopic on the writer, Infamous (formerly called Every Word is True), will open the Venice Film Festival at the end of August. The film stars British actor Toby Jones, Sandra Bullock, Daniel Craig, Lee Pace, Peter Bogdanovich, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, Gwyneth Paltrow, Isabella Rossellini, Juliet Stevenson and Sigourney Weaver. Now that's a cast.

road.jpg Rapper Busta Rhymes, who was involved in a homophobic incident at a Miami Beach diner earlier this year, has been busy criticizing his former girlfriend and the mother of his three children, Joanne Wood. Wood apparently lost custody of the children partly because she is a lesbian, and she's not happy with Rhymes. Said Wood: "His ego is definitely hurt. If he’s being emotional, then let him just be emotional - that’s like the bitch in him."

Lacoste: An Art Exhibit for Label Queens

Lacoste_exhibit

If you're bored and you're in Athens you may want to check out an exhibit which is currently showing at the Benaki Museum. Fifty Greek artists have been commissioned to create works based around the Lacoste Crocodile.

I'm not sure what the intent is of this piece which features a swimmer covered with the logos, but somehow I can't help but think of Star Trek's Data covered in roaches. If we're lucky, somewhere there's a reclining nude of Andy Roddick.

Andy Roddick is Blogging

Roddick_lacosteAndy Roddick is searching for his mojo in Rome at the Internazionali d'Italia, but today's news is that he's started a blog.

So what intimate details will we learn about Roddick as he explores this medium?

Not much it turns out, but what we do know is that he's slightly obsessed with basketball, loves the Miami Heat, thinks Kobe Bryant is the best player out there, and is sad he can't watch the games while he's in Europe.

He also loves bufalo mozzarella cheese and the band The Fray. Thrilling, right?

We'd love it if he would use this space to feed our Roddick obsession and throw out a few sexy shots, but I doubt that's gonna happen. Like a good Lacoste sponsor, he's used his first entry to shill his pet crocodile.
