Bigot Benham Twins Are Martyrs Like 'Braveheart's' William Wallace: VIDEO

Jason and David Benham

David and Jason Benham were all set to start their reality TV career with a house-flipping show on HGTV until word got around that the pair were anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-muslim extremists. Sensing that perhaps the presence of the two on their station would be detrimental to their reputation, HGTV canned the project. Little did they realize that they were creating martyrs on a level no less than Braveheart's William Wallace who are engaged in their very own D-Day. At least, that's how the Benhams view it.

Said Jason Benham at the Road to Majority conference:

We know what happened at D-Day. We know what happened on Omaha and Utah beach. There’s something about those men that our dad taught us when we were kids, and he said, ‘Boys, don’t you ever run from bullets. You run toward the bullets.' There are cultural bullets flying, all over today, especially religious liberty, and what’s happening right now is many spiritual leaders, elected leaders, they are running from bullets. But there’s a remnant of people that are ready to stand and say ‘I’m not running from these bullets any more. I’m going to take this beach.’

Just like in the movie Braveheart, when all the Scottish Army was standing there, and they all had their gear on, and they were lined up and they were unified, and they were ready to fight but not a single one of them wanted to fight. And then as William Wallace and a few men rode in on horses with blue face paint on. They were ready to pick a fight, and what I see before me right now are a bunch of people with some blue face paint on – so let’s go get it.

Rather galling that someone who would compare gay marriage to Nazi Germany would dare to presume he has any clue whatsoever what D-Day was like. Also, contrary to Braveheart's portrayal of William Wallace as a scrappy peasant underdog fighting against an oppressive regime, he was actually a knight from nobility who fought against a king who had been invited by the Scottish nobility to help arbitrate an impending civil war amongst the Scots....so yeah, perhaps that comparison to a wealthy person screwing around in politics is somewhat accurate.

Maggie Gallagher Comes To The Defense Of Benham Brothers, Attacks Pro-Gay Allies As Anti-Religious

Maggie Gallagher has (natch) weighed in on the bigoted Benham brothers controversy. Unsurprisingly, she's comparing the cancellation of their HGTV show to "McCarthyism" and has placed part of the the blame on what she believes is an entertainment industry with an agenda.

6a00d8341c730253ef019b004d29f6970d-800wiShe adds that she fears liberals will "redefine" religious beliefs:

"If the Benham brothers are able to survive and flourish as home building faith filled reality TV stars, the dark curtain will have lifted a bit. The future will look brighter, new possibilities will open up, whether it is on traditional existing media, or whether we begin to fund and create our own networks of communication. For as the Benham brothers have made clear, for them, whether they are on TV or not, matters not so much. For the future of a free, tolerant, and religiously diverse America, it matters a great deal. The contest right now is whether or not the Left and their LGBT allies will successfully redefine mainstream orthodox Christian (or Jewish or Muslim) beliefs as the equivalent of racism. Or whether we will forge a peculiarly American path to a better, more diverse, and tolerant outcome for us all."

Meanwhile, the Benham brothers themselves are out there talking to Glenn Beck about they feel like same-sex marriage is "not healthy" for the nation.

Right-wing Benham Twins Hope Michael Sam Turns Away from Demonic Homosexual ‘Agenda’ - VIDEO

In an interview with Glenn Beck on Monday, right-wing brothers Jason and David Benham spoke again about the ‘demonic force’ at the heart of the gay rights 'agenda' and said they have a message for Michael Sam.

Said David, speaking also for his brother:

“Michael Sam is  a talented football player and for that, he should be playing in the NFL. But his sexual expressions and the propagation of them are not healthy for him as a young man. Both heterosexual and homosexual expressions outside the context of traditional, historic marriage between a man and a woman are not healthy for us as individuals, or for us as a nation…”

Added Jason:

Screen Shot 2014-05-13 at 2.55.30 PM“The reason why I feel for Michael Sam is the same agenda that pushed us out of the limelight is elevating him to the limelight – a seventh-rounder with so many endorsements. You can see what’s happening here and the minute that he decides to go against that, he’s going to be crushed. But we’ll be here to give him some encouragement and help him along the way.

Anti-Gay Benham Twins Could Land New Show on ‘Traditional Values’ Network INSP TV

Benham brothers

The Hollywood Reporter has learned one of the replacement channels that may pick up anti-gay, right wingers David and Jason Benham is INSP TV, a channel that (while I’ve never heard of it) apparently reaches 75 million homes with content that prides itself on “traditional values.”

The two have been working with a Christian advocacy group to help look for alternative channels after HGTV canceled their would-be show last week following a Right Wing Watch post about their family’s anti-gay extremism.

Bobby Jindal Slams HGTV For Canceling Benham Brothers Show

Screen Shot 2014-05-11 at 12.11.07 AM
Governor Jindal made the remarks during a speech yesterday's commencement for Liberty University, the private Christian college founded by Jerry Falwell. One of the main topics he addressed was his concern about "the war on religious liberties."

Sitting in the front row during the event were anti-gay brothers David and Jason Benham, whose HGTV show was canceled last week and who themselves graduated from Liberty in 1998.

According to KTBS, Jindal defended the brothers:

And the same thing happened again just this week, with another demonstration of intolerance from the entertainment industry. HGTV was working on a new show featuring the Benham brothers, twin brothers who graduated from right here at Liberty University in 1998. But HGTV cancelled the show this week, allegedly because they learned that one of the brothers protested at the Democrat Party Convention, and the other had protested at an abortion clinic. Think about that for a minute. If these guys had protested at the Republican Party Convention, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV would probably have given them a raise.

Aside from the Benham brothers, Jindal's speech also included words of support for Hobby Lobby stores and Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson, who he defended during the height of that controversy last year.

Video of the entire commencement ceremony is AFTER THE JUMP. Jindal comes in shortly after the 2 hour and 5 minute mark.

Rep. Louie Gohmert Comments on the Benhams, Compares Gay Rights Advocates to Nazis: VIDEO

Gohmert

Rep. Louie Gohmert referenced the anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-Muslim Benham brothers ("people that were going to be on the television show before it was canceled") today in a speech on the House floor denouncing the "intolerance" of gay rights advocates (my transcript):

"People that stand up and say you know I agree with the majority of Americans, I agree with Moses and Jesus, that marriage is between a man and a woman. Now all of a sudden people like me are considered 'haters, hatemongers, evil' which really is exactly what we've seen throughout our history going back to the days of the Nazi takeover in Europe. They would call people 'haters' and 'evil' and build up disdain for those people who held those opinions or religious views, or religious heritage. And then next came 'well those people are so evil and hateful let's bring every book that they've written or has to do with them and let's start burning the books cause we can't tolerate their intolerance...It's called projecting. Someone that has a characteristic - to divert condemnation on themselves they project their characteristic on someone whom they disagree."
