Anti-gay Forces Unite to Oppose Houston Mayor Annise Parker and the 'Radical Agenda' of LGBT Equality: VIDEO

Houston

The right-wing freak out over subpoenas sent to Houston area pastors for "all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to HERO, the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by you or in your possession" is set to continue via live telecast next Sunday as anti-gay leaders and organizations from across the country join together to "stand with these pastors and stand against the radical agenda sweeping our nation."

Those participating in "I Stand Sunday" include would-be HGTV stars David and Jason Benham, Mike Huckabee, hate leader Tony Perkins, Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, Rick Scarborough, Fox News' Todd Starnes, Christian litigation group Alliance Defending Freedom, National Organization for Marriage, and others.

New York Times Columnist Apologizes For Taking Part In Anti-Gay Fundraiser - VIDEO

Douthat

New York Times columnist Ross Douthat [top left] has apologized for appearing at a fundraising event for anti-gay litigation group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), reports Media Matters America.

ADF was recently profiled by Human Rights Campaign for its attempts to criminalize homosexuality abroad, most recently in Slovakia and is currently litigating on behalf of a wedding venue in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, that refused to perform a same-sex marriage.

On October 16th, Douthat spoke at the ADF event that aimed to draw attention to a number of popular right-wing horror stories about the threat LGBT equality poses to religious liberty. Douthat spoke alongside the homophobic Benham brothers who recently compared themselves to the victims of ISIS' beheadings because their reality TV show was cancelled due to their extremist statements and views.

Apologizing, Douthat said that he did not know ADF's event was a fundraiser and plans to decline the honorarium he received from the event.

"I was not aware in advance that this event was a fundraiser and had I known, I would not have agreed to participate. I was invited by an events organizing group, not by ADF directly. I understood this to be a public conversation about religious liberty. This is my fault for not doing my due diligence, and I will be declining the honorarium."

Richard Rosendall, president of the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, D.C., said that Douthat’s decision to take part in the ADF event is disturbing because of the group’s extreme activism and relentless “attacks on equal protection of gay people and families.”  Rosendall added that Douthat’s participation “says unfortunate things about” the journalist.

New York Times Columnist Speaks Alongside The Benham Brothers At Anti-Gay Fundraiser: VIDEO

ADF

Conservative New York Times columnist Ross Douthat recently joined the anti-gay Benham Brothers as speaking guests at a fundraiser for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a vocally anti-gay group that, as Media Matters points out, "works to defend anti-LGBT discrimination and supported the criminalization of homosexuality." The event took place on October 16 in Denton, Texas and explored the alleged friction between "LGBT equality religious liberty":

The event touched on a number of popular right-wing horror stories about LGBT equality, from the plight of anti-gay bakers and florists, to the outrage over the recent subpoenaing of several Houston pastors. David Benham, who has previously warned that the gay "agenda" is "attacking the nation," urged the audience to take "dominion" of the media and legal system back from the "sexual anarchy agenda":

You'll recall the Benham Brothers lost their HGTV reality show because of anti-gay and xenophobic remarks they made in the past. The pair have also recently compared themselves to the victims of ISIS' beheadings because their show was cancelled due to their extremist statements and views.

Noted activist and columnist Dan Savage highlighted Douthat's presence at the event on Twitter, drawing attention to ADF's advocacy for the criminalization of homosexuality and making reference to prominent out gay journalists public personas:

"Nice friends you've got, @DouthatNYT. So who would you like to see jailed first: @sullydish, @jbarro or @JoeMyGod? Or maybe @DouthatNYT would prefer to see lesbians jailed first? Maybe @TheEllenShow, @ejgraff, and @Rosie could all share a cell, Ross?"

Anti-Gay Benham Brothers Compare Themselves to ISIS Beheading Victims - VIDEO

David and Jason Benham

Anti-gay wingnuts David and Jason Benham, the brothers who had a planned property development TV show cancelled because of their far right-wing views, have compared themselves to victims of terrorist group ISIS, reports Right Wing Watch.

Speaking at the rabidly homophobic Family Research Council’s annual Values Voter Summit last Friday night, the twin brothers argued that just as ISIS has beheaded victims, progressive groups like Right Wing Watch “silence” conservatives by quoting them verbatim.

Benham“There is a radical agenda that has come in our nation. The weapon of choice for the agenda in the Middle East is a sword, but the weapon of choice for the agenda in America is silence. They demand silence.”

The twins of course also drag out the tired old “gay agenda” argument and explain how god helped them to realise the reality behind the reasons for their firing.

In May, HGTV decided “not to move forward" with a new house-flipping show called Flip It Forward starring the Benhams. The network's move came after Right Wing Watch wrote a lengthy post exposing the Benham family's extreme anti-gay activism.

Last month, David Benham said that the battle to deny gay people their rights is really just a battle against a "parallel kingdom run by Satan." that seeks to "rob, kill, and destroy."

E.W. Jackson: 'God Ordained' That 1,000 Years From Now Same-Sex Marriage Will Not Exist - VIDEO

E.W. Jackson

True to form, failed 2013 Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia E.W. Jackson - he has previously claimed to be even better friends with god than the Pope - this time spoke for god himself, lashing out against same-sex marriage at the closing of the Values Voter Summit last Friday, reports Right Wing Watch.

The annual Values Voter Summit, organized by anti-gay bigots Family Research Council and backed by the Republican Party, featured a who’s who of homophobic wingnuts including Michelle Bachmann, Jason & David Benham, Michelle Duggar, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum and Mat Staver.

Closing out Friday night’s session, Jackson attacked supporters of equality and was somewhat confused with his interpretation of "the truth":

“How dare you try to redefine an institution that God himself ordained! The fact of the matter is they can call a union other than one man and one woman by any name they choose but the reality is you can re-write a thousand dictionaries, you can put on a thousand TV shows, you can make a thousand headlines, you can have a thousand coming out parties, you can have a thousand politicians affirm the lie, but the truth will still stand and a thousand years from now, marriage will still be a union between one man and one woman because God ordained it so!"

And if you missed our exclusive report by People for the American Way's Drew Courtney about the Republican Party's cozy relationship with the hate group-backed summit, check that out HERE. The report details  how the GOP, despite signaling it would "rebrand" after the 2012 election, continues to align itself with extremist fringe groups that "actively seek to put LGBT people back in the closet, quash access to legal abortion, and restrict the free exercise rights of non-Christian religious minorities."
