Suspects

The FBI has released images and video of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Said Special Agent Rick DesLauriers, the head of the FBI's Boston office, at a news conference late this afternoon: "No one should approach them. No one should attempt to apprehend them except law enforcement."

Anyone with information should call the bureau's toll-free number, 800-CALL-FBI (800-225-5324), he added.

Boston Bombing Suspect Identified, Arrest Reportedly Imminent: VIDEO

Bombing

The AP is reporting via Twitter:

Law enforcement official: Arrest imminent in Boston Marathon bombing, suspect to be brought to court.

More:

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday. The official was not authorized to divulge details of the investigation. The official says the suspect is to be taken into custody by federal marshals and taken to a Boston courthouse.

In related news, CNN reported this morning on the possible identification of a suspect, TPM reports:

[CNN's John] King said he's been told by authorities that video footage from the Lord and Taylor department store and from a local Boston television station has led investigators to believe that they have "clearly identified" the individual who placed one of the explosive devices at the site of the second explosion. The department store on Boylston Street is located near the site of the second explosion.

UPDATE: CNN is now reporting that an arrest has been made. NBC News says not yet.

UPDATE II: The FBI blasted news reports.

Contrary to widespread reporting, there have been no arrests made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting.

Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert Thank Boston for Being Brave in the Face of Gross Inhumanity: VIDEO

Boston_stewart

Jon Stewart offered a tribute to the people of Boston at the opening of his show last night.

"Thank you for, in the face of gross inhumanity, inspiring and solidifying my belief in humanity and the people of this country...Oftentimes [NYC and Boston] are accusing each other of various levels of suckitude. But it is in situations like this that we realize it is clearly a sibling rivalry and that we are your brothers and sisters. In this type of event, as a city that knows the feeling of confusion, anger, and grief, and chaos that comes with these events, I can tell you from personal experience, you’ve got a hell of a city going there. And you’ve done an incredible job in the face of all of this."

Colbert took a more humorous approach, offered a similar message:

"When those bombs went off, there were runners who after those bombs went off kept running another two miles to the hospital to donate blood. So, here's what I know. These maniacs may have tried to make life bad for the people of Boston, but all they could do is really show how good those people are."

Gay Officer is Among Three Boston Marathon Police Responders Shown on Powerful 'Sports Illustrated' Cover

Sports_illustrated

A new Sports Illustrated cover features a photo that is among the most circulated after the Boston Marathon bombings and shows 78-year-old Bill Iffrig of Lake Stevens, Washington, who was knocked off his feet by the bomb blast, along with three Boston police officers taking action after the attack.

The police officer on the right is the Boston Police Gay Liaison to the community Javier Pagan, Boston Pride reports.

The Dallas Voice adds:

Officer Pagan’s husband, Pedro, is a retired sergeant from the New York Police Department who rescued many people when the Twin Towers collapsed on Sept. 11, 2011, according to a recent profile of Pagan by a Boston CrossFit site. Pagan also escorted LGBT civil rights attorney Mary Bonauto to City Hall Plaza on May 17, 2004, when the Massachusetts Supreme  Judicial Court ruled in favor of marriage equality.

Pagan, a native of Puerto Rico who came out at 26 a year after joining the force, was profiled by the Bay Windows LGBT newspaper when he was named to the position in 2002.

While we're identifying Pagan because this site deals with many LGBT issues, we should take a moment to thank ALL first responders and everyone who stepped up in this time of crisis.

Incidentally, Iffrig was okay. ESPN spoke with him yesterday.
