Brady Quinn's Lawyers Finally Discover His M4M Facebook Ad

Back in June I posted about an online hookup ad which was running on Facebook using Cleveland Browns Quarterback Brady Quinn.
Now, TMZ reports: "A rep for the Cleveland Browns tells us Brady had no knowledge of the ad saying, 'He was not involved in posting photos.' Brady's lawyer has already taken action and has sent a cease and desist letter to the website today, demanding all photos of him be removed ASAP."
Brady Quinn is not gay, although he does apparently hang out with homophobes and occasionally gives Hummers to fellow players.

Somehow I doubt the NFL licensed Quinn's image for this purpose, although he has been known to give a good hummer.

Brady Quinn Gives Football Rookie Chris Long a Hummer

No word on whether he's still hanging out with allegedly homophobic riff-raff, but Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn is now handing out, uh, hummers to the rookies, AFTER THE JUMP...

Joe Sports fan reports: "Chris Long was presented with a model HUMMER H2 before being handed the keys to a 2008 HUMMER H2 for being named 'Hummer's Top Rookie' at ESPN Zone on Friday...Last year's winner, Brady Quinn, joined in on the pomp and circumstance. It's like the previous year's Masters winner presenting the Green Jacket to the current winner, only the previous winner in the golf tournament doesn't daydream about truly giving a hummer to Chris Long."

ESPN columnist Shoved, Taunted with Gay Slurs at NBA Weekend
LZ Granderson, a columnist for ESPN.com, says he was confronted by a group of men in New Orleans last week during NBA All-Star Weekend who taunted him with anti-gay slurs. Granderson says he fears that it would have escalated had a couple of policemen been nearby.
Writes Granderson: "When the first one pushed me in the back, I remember thinking I was going to die. After a second shove, I had no thoughts at all -- only fear. This is how I spent a portion of my Saturday night during NBA All-Star Weekend -- being gay bashed because the size large T-shirt I was wearing wasn't large enough for someone else's comfort. As I walked by the group of men -- on my way to the Playboy party, no less -- one of them called me a faggot. Then another joined in. They followed me for a while, continuing to hurl names at me. I tried to ignore it but eventually the "Detroit" came out of me and I turned around and said some things I probably shouldn't have. Next thing I know I'm surrounded and wondering if I'm going to see the dawn and if not for a pair of New Orleans policemen who saw trouble brewing and yelled at the group to break it up, I might not have."
Granderson also discusses the Brady Quinn incident and urges professional sports to take more action toward homophobia among its players.

Browns QB Brady Quinn Denies Making Anti-Gay Remarks
Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn denies any involvement in the New Years Eve altercation in Columbus, Ohio I posted about earlier this morning, in which a man claimed Quinn had used an anti-gay slur toward him:
"In a statement released Wednesday through the Browns, Quinn said he had dinner on New Year's Eve with his girlfriend and other couples but that nothing else happened. 'At no time that night was I involved in a verbal or physical altercation, nor did I have any interaction with the police,' Quinn said in the statement. 'I want to be clear that I did not engage in any of the alleged conduct, nor did I make inappropriate comments to anyone. Any allegations to the contrary are either untrue or the result of misidentification.' However, Columbus police said when they arrived Quinn was arguing with 32-year-old Jason Thompson. Quinn's friends encouraged him to step back from the situation and he did, police spokeswoman Amanda Ford said. She added that police did not hear any comments made at the scene and couldn't confirm Harris' statements on the 911 call. 'We don't know what that argument was about,' Ford said."
Police reported two separate fights at the scene that evening, one of which resulted in injuries to a man and was labeled an "anti-male homosexual" hate crime, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The Browns organization stood behind the rookie player. They said: "We are aware of the alleged comments made by Brady Quinn, which the Browns take seriously. After speaking with Brady and his representatives we find these reported accusations without merit."

Brady Quinn in Alleged Anti-Gay New Years Eve Incident
Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn reportedly used the word "faggot" toward a man leaving Columbus gay spot Union Cafe Bar + Food on New Year's Eve. Quinn was among a group of perhaps 10 people outside La Fogata Grill, a Mexican restaurant adjacent to the gay bar, but according to a 911 caller from the scene, used the slur as tensions rose between patrons of the establishments.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports: The call at 2:35 a.m. came from Seth Harris, who reported that he encountered the group in front of La Fogata Grill at 790 North High St...On the 9-1-1 call, Harris said that 'Brady Quinn from the Browns' was 'trying to cause a fight.' Harris told the operator, 'I just walked outside and he exchanged many profanities with me and called me a faggot, of course.' Reached Monday by The Plain Dealer, Harris confirmed that Quinn was the person who used the slur. 'I knew who it was,' he said. 'It wasn't just directed at me, there were other people around, too.' He said Quinn was with a 'big group' of friends numbering perhaps 10, and that the quarterback 'wasn't as involved as' others were in stirring up trouble. 'He was standing back and letting his friends do most of it,' Harris said. On the call, Harris told police that 'this has been going on all night and nobody has stopped anything.'"
The paper has a recording of the 911 call from that night.
The paper adds: "On the 9-1-1 call, Harris told police that he feared for his safety. 'I'm not going to wait for police because it's going to turn ugly,' Harris said. 'They are being very violent and I probably should get away.' A Columbus police spokeswoman said officers arrived several minutes after Harris' call and found Quinn in the midst of an argument with 32-year-old Jason Thompson. 'I don't believe there were any punches being thrown -- it was more verbal than anything,' said Columbus police spokeswoman Amanda Ford. 'When we got there, he was very cooperative and just stopped,' Ford said of Quinn's encounter with police. 'I think his friends were like, 'Let's get out of here.' However, police arrested Thompson when "he wouldn't back down and turned on officers," Ford said."
Gloria McCauley, executive director of the Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization, called the Quinn slur "very distressing" according to the paper. Said McCauley: "That person is in theory a role model for so many people. To have one of our well-known people engage in behavior that I consider hateful saddens me. We obviously need to do a lot more education."
The Browns have made no comment on the incident. We'll see what comes of this.

Brady Quinn: Celebrate the One Thing That Makes America Great
Well, one of the things. Vote!
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the gay and lesbian vote is officially split:
"When it comes to their positions on gay rights issues, Clinton and Obama favor overturning the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy that prohibits openly gay men and lesbians from serving in the military, and both back federal anti-discrimination protections for homosexuals. The two candidates support civil unions or similar legal recognition for same-sex couples, but stop short of backing same-sex marriage. Yet it appears that the issue motivating gay and lesbian Democrats to vote for one candidate or the other isn't gay rights; it's who they believe has the best chance of returning a Democrat to the White House, said Kenneth Sherrill, a Hunter College political scientist and an expert on gay politics. 'People are most concerned about the crazy war and that the economy is in the tank,' Sherrill said. 'That's what's driving people this election.'"
Get to the polls!

Brady Quinn Makes a Fresh Start
Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn removed his helmet during warm-up before the Browns faced the Broncos in Denver over the weekend, to reveal a freshly-buzzed dome for the new season.
Quinn also appears with a few other "young guns" of football (Tony Romo, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, JaMarcus Russell, Ben Roethlisberger) in a Mark Seliger GQ photoshoot this month.
The magazine notes: "Not since the early days of Marino and Elway has the NFL showcased a more stunning crop of young quarterbacks."

Brady Quinn Hits the NFL Combine

I'm sure some of you have been wondering what former Notre Dame Quarterback and Bruce Weber pin-up Brady Quinn has been up to since the college football season ended and he lost the Heisman. He's been preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and last week participated in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
The combine provides an opportunity for coaches, managers, and owners of pro teams to get a closer look at what they might be purchasing in the coming year. A football meat market, shall we say.
After this quick study, yeah, I think I'd let Brady play for our team.

Heisman Trophy Awarded to Ohio State Quarterback Troy Smith
Ohio State QB Troy Smith handily won this year's Heisman, beating out Arkansas running back Darren McFadden and Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn to take the trophy in New York on Saturday night. McFadden immediately became favored for next year's trophy though Quinn won't have another chance as he's graduating.
Said Smith: "The first thing I would say to little kids is that anything and everything is possible with your dreams if you have humility."
In the athletic marketing dept. we'll hope Smith's victory dance includes a pictorial like the one last year's Heisman winner Reggie Bush did for GQ. Considering the touchdown Brady Quinn has already scored with Bruce Weber, Smith's got some catching up to do.

Brady Quinn: College Football's Current Pin-up

Former Out magazine editor Brendan Lemon and photographer Bruce Weber turn their gazes toward Notre Dame Quarterback and Heisman hopeful Brady Quinn in the latest issue of Interview magazine. Quinn, whose photogenic qualities we've noted here before, seems more than ready for his close up, though he denies it: "I think a lot of times I look kind of dorky in photos. I really don't take myself too seriously when it comes to having my picture taken or being interviewed on TV. Obviously, you want to look professional, but at the same time, I'm still going to make a goofy comment here or an awkward face there."

George Clooney begs UN for end to genocide in Darfur: "Now, my job is to come here today and to beg you, on behalf of the millions of people who will die — and make no mistake they will die — for you to take real and effective measures to put an end to this. Of course it’s complex, but when you see entire villages raped and killed, wells poisoned and then filled with the bodies of its villagers, then all complexities disappear and it comes down to simply right and wrong."

CNN Anchor Thomas Roberts, who recently came out at the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association Conference in Miami, told AfterElton that his coming out had nothing to do with the reshuffling of anchor positions at CNN, and offered some advice for young journalists (and others) struggling with the process of coming out: "There are all kinds of fears we accumulate through high school, college, even going back as far as grade school, that are carried into the adult years. That fear can really hold you back. It (coming out) has to be when people feel… they are ready for it. It's hard to live afraid…. Hopefully, everyone, gay or straight, journalists or doctors or otherwise, can overcome that obstacle, because it stands in the way of you being the best you can be, with your job, with your family, with everything, and not have to be afraid anymore."

Sportrait: Brady Quinn
Football is hot right now, at least judging by the roster of TV shows and movies — Invincible, Friday Night Lights, Two-a-Days, Gridiron Gang — but there's hardly anything hotter in college football than Brady Quinn. The Notre Dame quarterback tipped for the Heisman trophy this year was profiled in the NYT over the weekend. These shots are also from Saturday, when Notre Dame trounced Penn State 41-17.
And here's a well-circulated shot from last December, no doubt worth seeing again. A couple more shots after the jump...
