Human Rights Campaign Exposes Extreme Anti-Gay American Activists

Export of hate

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has released a new report that exposes some of the most vitriolic activists in the U.S. promoting anti-gay bigotry abroad.

These extremists claim that LGBT people are responsible for the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide, and the spread of HIV/AIDS; that LGBT people are luring away children; that acceptance of LGBT people will lead to the destruction of the family; and that the death penalty could be an appropriate punishment for simply being gay.

6a00d8341c730253ef01a73e170bc2970d-800wiHRC points out that these anti-gay activists often secure audiences with heads of government and their spouses, testify before politicians, build relationships with community leaders and other prominent citizens, lobby United Nations delegates, get involved in the drafting of national constitutions, and intervene in international court cases that affect the lives and rights of LGBT people.

The report titled The Export of Hate, which focuses on dangerous homophobe Scott Lively and others, details their connections and associations, nations in which they are active publicly, available information about their resources and examples of their public bigotry and hatred of gay people.

Lively has been accused of crimes against humanity for inciting anti-gay hatred in Uganda and aiding in the passing of their "Kill the Gays" bill.

The report also exposes the "work" of Benjamin Bull, Jordan Sekulow, Peter La Barbera, Paul Cameron, Sharon Slater, Robert Oscar Lopez, Brian Brown, Larry Jacobs, Brian Camenker, Mat Staver, Michael Brown, Janice Shaw Crouse and Scott Stirm.

Ty Cobb, HRC Foundation’s director of Global Engagement, said:

“Hate is not an American value, and we must expose and fight these individuals and their extremist allies. This is a destructive group of activists spreading anti-LGBT rhetoric, promoting laws that criminalize LGBT people, and seeking to restrict their speech and those who support them.  Although their views may find little traction in the United States, public opinion in many other nations makes their words and global advocacy fundamentally dangerous.”

Hate Group Blames Same-Sex PDA for Rise in Russia's Anti-gay Violence: AUDIO

Screen Shot 2013-10-23 at 9.08.18 AMBrian Camenker (left) of the hate group Mass Resistance had a chat with conservative-wingnut radio host Linda Harvey (right) over the weekend to discuss how gay rights activists are distorting the reported rise in anti-gay violence in Russia and are attempting to "smuggle pro-LGBT propaganda" into the country.

Right Wing Watch reports that Harvey defended Russia's new anti-gay laws and insisted that no "logical" person would believe such laws are related to the rise in homophobic violence, doubting that such violence is even occurring. And even if such anti-gay violence is indeed taking place, Camenker asserted that it's only a natural reaction to seeing two dudes kissing in public:

"...if you're going to do something that most of the population considers bad or immoral or disgusting in public, you're going to get a certain reaction. I think that they push that as far as they can and sometimes you just can't do it."

Hate Group Condemns Red Sox Pride Night, Hides Behind Children

The SPLC-certified anti-gay hate group MassResistance demanded today that the Boston Red Sox cancel the "Pride Night" event for tonight's game versus the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. In an interview with the anti-gay publication OneNewsNow, MassResistance president Brian Camenker used children as the excuse for his organization's opposition:

Baseball is largely for kids, so why should homosexual activism be part of that? And you know a lot of just regular fans don't want to be part of that kind of thing when they go out for a baseball game. It's certainly nothing you expect.

Two years ago the Red Sox created an "It Gets Better" video, and gay basketball player Jason Collins will be throwing the opening pitch tonight. Tickets can be bought here, and proceeds from tonight's game will be donated to Boston Pride.

Massachusetts Tea Party Patriots Welcome Anti-Gay Hate Group Leaders to Rally in Boston: VIDEO

Yesterday I linked to Scott Wooledge's excellent DailyKos write-up of this event in my round-up. But here's some excellent video of the event as it unfolded, with anti-gay Christianist evangelist Scott Lively and MassResistance's Brian Camenker, both leaders of hate groups designated by the SPLC, as they take the podium to trash gays.

Hats off to the activists protesting this event.

The clip also features a brief interview with Lively, in which he is asked what's the downside to same-sex marriage, and responds, "fire and brimstone raining from Heaven."

Santorum-Supporting Hate Group Launches Anti-Gay Robo-Call Attack on Romney in Ohio

Brian Camenker of the hate group Mass Resistance appears on a robo-call that began targeting Ohio voters today. The call, produced by Santorum supporters 'Jews and Christians Together', targets Romney for his positions on LGBT issues.

CamenkerThe script:

"Hi, my name is Brian Camenker; I'm a Jew from Massachusetts.

"And, this is Darcy Brandon; I'm a Christian from California. If you believe as we do that marriage and sexuality should only be between a man and a woman, please help us stop Mitt Romney.

"As Governor, Romney signed 'Gay Youth Pride Day' proclamations, promoted homosexuality in our elementary schools, and unconstitutionally ordered state officals to make Massachusetts America's first same-sex marriage state. Romney supports open homosexuality in the military, the appointment of homosexual judges, and the ENDA law, making it illegal to fire a man who wears a dress and high heels to work, even if he's your kid's teacher. When you vote tomorrow, please vote for social sanity and Rick Santorum, NOT for homosexuality and Mitt Romney.

"Rick Santorum is the ONLY candidate who can be trusted to uphold traditional marriage, a straight military, and the rights of American children to have both a mother and a father. This message paid for by Jews and Christians and not authorized by any candidate. To get the facts before you vote, visit Jews and Christians"

The call is produced by Camenker and Dr. Gary Cass, president of
