American Soccer Imports Another Male Underwear Model

Freddieljungberg

American soccer looks like it'll get another boost in the briefs with the announcement that Swedish Arsenal footballer and Calvin Klein underwear model Freddie Ljungberg is joining Seattle's team:

"Seattle Sounders FC has a news conference set for 11 a.m. today at Qwest Field, at which the club is expected to announce the signing of Swedish star Fredrik Ljungberg as its designated player. Ljungberg is a midfielder who has played for West Ham United and Arsenal in the English Premier League. Major League Soccer's designated player rule allows each team to sign one international player, with no more than $400,000 of the player's salary counting against the team's salary cap. The MLS cap this season is $2.2 million, according to Sounders FC's Web site."

Garrett Neff Next in Line in the Calvin Klein Brief Brotherhood

Neff3_2

Garrett Neff has been chosen to show off new Calvin Klein's Body and Body Stretch underwear in magazines and on billboards this fall.

DNR reports: "Shot on location in Miami by renowned photographer Bruce Weber, who shot Calvin Klein Underwear’s first ad campaign 25 years ago, the sexy black-and-white images epitomize the very clean yet sensual aesthetic that Calvin Klein has become so well known for. Neff, who is the face of the company’s fragrance, Calvin Klein Man, was featured alongside Kate Bosworth in the spring ad campaign for Calvin Klein Jeans. He succeeds Academy Award–nominated actor Djimon Hounsou as Calvin Klein’s latest body."

Hong Kong Will Not Arrest 27-Story Nearly Naked Man

Djimon

Regulators in Hong Kong, who received complaints of indecency about a 27-story Calvin Klein billboard featuring Djimon Hounsou draped on the side of the city's soon-to-be-leveled Ritz Carlton hotel, took a good look at it and decided it wasn't indecent. The billboard will stay up until April 15, at which time the wrecking crews will come and the city will lose its erection.

EXCLUSIVE: Joe Oppedisano Celebrates the Calvin Klein Man

Jo1

Here's a sunny treat for this gray day (at least in NYC) — a spread from photographer Joe Oppedisano that you can find in the new issue of Italian fashion publication Collezioni Uomo.

Says Joe of the shoot: "It's not really a fashion spread as much as it is a special celebration of Calvin Klein's 25th anniversary as the man who made underwear fashion. Before that there was no such thing as designer underwear, and when he launched, it really turned fashion upside down. The ads were incredible, and the billboard of Jeff Aquilon by Bruce Weber in Times Square revolutionized fashion and liberated and brought sex right into everyone's home. (and male beauty, which before was hidden by suits)."

Jo2 Jo3

Joe adds: "We shot it at the Rivington Hotel Penthouse (which is unbelievable) in one long day. We were very lucky because it was cloudy and rainy in the morning and then after my lights caught fire and I had to run out and get a new set, the sun came out and gave us really spectacular and interesting backdrops of the city."

Francis had already given his entire commissary away and had no bedding or blankets. The commissary could not be replaced for days,' his attorneys wrote in one legal filing. 'Mr. Francis again and again begged for a blanket,' they wrote in another legal filing. 'It was then that guards threatened to strip him and strap him naked to a chair, with only a hole for defecation, for 48 hours. Grady County jail officials were enjoying torturing Mr. Francis so much that, at one point, they even refused to turn him over to the U.S. Marshal.' The sheriff laughed at the accusations."

Fabien Baron Looks Back for Calvin Klein Man with Garrett Neff

Garrettneff_2

Photographer Fabien Baron wanted to recall Bruce Weber's iconic 80's ads for Calvin Klein underwear in his depiction of model Garrett Neff for the new fragrance Calvin Klein Man: "With Calvin Klein Man we wanted to create a modern version of the original Calvin Klein point of view, where men were strong, masculine and powerful."

Of course, because there were so few blatant objectification of male beauty back then, the Weber ads became (for burgeoning adolescent gay boys like myself) a kind of covert porn and made a more striking impact than most ads can these days. Not that I'm complaining about Baron's nostalgic look back at the fashion gods of yesteryear...

Djimon Hounsou: The Man of Steel for Calvin Klein

Djimonhounsou

Sorry for the poor quality of the shots, but here are two images from the brand new Calvin Klein Steel underwear campaign with Djimon Hounsou that I posted about in February.

Djimon2Hounsou, who reportedly "worked out for months to get ripped for the role," told the NY Post: "I regularly watch how much, when and what I eat. It really becomes a daily journey. You just have to do it - get up, eat something, go to the gym - so you can burn as much as you can and look lean. It’s pretty challenging."

In February, Fashion Week Daily reported, "The Fall 2007 campaign, which will be shot in late March or early April, will appear internationally in more than 20 countries, with print and outdoor media timed to coincide with September 2007 magazine issues. Hounsou is the ninth man to be featured in a Calvin Klein Underwear campaign and the first actor in over a decade."

The kitchen wasn't equipped to make fries, however - so each day, Zakarian sent out to McDonald's for a couple of large orders of fries, which he'd doctor up with more salt and reheat and serve to Klein - who never knew. Until now."

road.jpg Sean Penn leads Oakland charge against Bush, war: "You and your smarmy pundits -- and the smarmy pundits you have in your pocket -- can take your war and shove it. Let's unite not only in stopping this war, but in holding this administration accountable. Let's make this crystal clear: We do support our troops, but not the exploitation of them and their families. The money that's spent on this war would be better spent on building levees in New Orleans and health care in Africa and care for our veterans. Iraq is not our toilet. It's a country of human beings whose lives that were once oppressed by Saddam are now in Dante's Inferno."
