International Gayhaters Vs. Prague Pride And Friends

Prague-pride2012Tomorrow, Czechs will celebrate Pride in Prague, and the US State Department's helping. Exactly what the State Department's up to is difficult to know without reading Czech, but the US Embassy is, at the very least, promoting Pride like mad on its website

The embassy is very clear on why it's gotten involved:

Prague Pride Festival will focus on the topic of minorities within the LGBT community. The main goal of this Festival is to address discriminatory behavior based on sexual orientation and to promote a tolerant civil society and equal opportunities in the Czech Republic.

Tolerance! Equal opportunities! The embassy doesn't even mention "marriage"!

Still, some Americans are upset. Elite homophobes of the United States and elsewhere have come together to protest with a very angry letter:

We the undersigned pro-family and pro-life leaders vigorously protest the participation of the United States Embassy in the Czech Republic in a so-called gay-pride parade which will take place on August 18.

As representatives of the international pro-family movement, we note the following:

The full list of complaints is tediously long, but includes:

At the directive of the president of the United States, Washington is aggressively promoting the “gay’’ agenda internationally, including same-sex “marriage” and the stigmatization and marginalization of any who object to the same.

And:

The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (adopted by the General Assembly on December 10, 1948) provides that “Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family.”

And:

The Madrid Declaration of World Congress of Families VI (May 25-27, 2012) -- which was unanimously adopted by more than 3,200 delegates from 72 countries -- provides, in part: “We affirm the natural family to be the union of a man and a woman through marriage for the purposes of sharing love and joy, propagating children, providing their moral education, building a vital home economy, offering security in times of trouble, and binding the generations.”

(This is an odd thing to mention, because the World Congress of Families, an international collection of anti-science, hyper-religious wackadoos, has no authority over anything but itself.)

And:

We can not imagine a worse form of cultural imperialism than Washington trying to force approval of the “gay” agenda on societies with traditional values.

The letter also includes a shout-out to Czech gayhater Michal Semin, who asserts on his webpage that the site of the first-ever Pride celebration was ancient Sodom.

Signatories of note include Scott Lively, Linda Harvey, Peter LaBarbera, Tom Wildmon, Tom DeLay, and, most troublingly, Nigeria's Theresa Okafor, who runs the anti-gay Foundation For African Cultural Heritage

NEWS: Goodbye Iraq, Goodye Vaclav Havel, Goodbye Prop 8

IraqFlag

Road The last convoy leaves:

The last troop movement out of Iraq, which included about 110 vehicles and 500 soldiers, began in darkness. Around 2:30 a.m., the convoy snaked out of Contingency Operating Base Adder, near the southern city of Nasiriya, and headed toward the border.

As dawn approached on Sunday, the last trucks began to cross the border into Kuwait at an outpost lighted by floodlights and secured by barbed wire.

“I just can’t wait to call my wife and kids and let them know I am safe,” said Sgt. First Class Rodolfo Ruiz just before his armored vehicle crossed over the border. “I am really feeling it now.”

Road Young veterans can't find work:

Veterans’ joblessness is concentrated among the young and those still serving in the National Guard or Reserve. The unemployment rate for veterans aged 20 to 24 has averaged 30 percent this year, more than double that of others the same age, though the rate for older veterans closely matches that of civilians. Reservists like Corporal Rhoden have a bleak outlook as well.

Road Baptists really don't want to share the Air Force Academy with other religions.

Vaclav-Havel Road Farewell to a playwright, statesman, and velvet revolutionary:

[Vaclav Havel] came to personify the soul of the Czech nation. His moral authority and his moving use of the Czech language cast him as the dominant figure during Prague street demonstrations in 1989 and as the chief behind-the-scenes negotiator who brought about the end of more than 40 years of Communist rule and the peaceful transfer of power known as the Velvet Revolution, a revolt so smooth that it took just weeks to complete, without a single shot fired.

He was chosen as democratic Czechoslovakia’s first president — a role he insisted was more duty than aspiration — and after the country split in January 1993, he became president of the Czech Republic. He linked the country firmly to the west, clearing the way for the Czech Republic to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in 1999 and the European Union five years later.

Both as a dissident and as a national leader, Mr. Havel impressed the West as one of the most important political thinkers in Central Europe. He rejected the notion, posited by reform-minded Communist leaders like Mikhail S. Gorbachev in the Soviet Union and Alexander Dubcek in Czechoslovakia, that Communist rule could be made more humane.

As Newt Gingrich falls back to earth -- under assault from his primary rivals, Iowa pastors and the conservative establishment -- three other Republican presidential candidates are hoping to benefit here in the Hawkeye State.

The last two weeks in Iowa before the Jan. 3 caucuses are increasingly a battle between these three, who still remain legitimate in the eyes of the grassroots, committed Iowa conservatives: Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn), and former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.).

"It's Bachmann, Santorum and Perry who are fighting for the rock-ribbed social conservative voter at the caucus. They're the only three active campaigns out there really going after that vote," said Chuck Laudner, an Iowa operative who is running Santorum's effort in the state.

Czech President Condemns 13 Western Countries for Defending Prague's Gay Pride Festival

Thirteen embassies seated in Prague, including Canada, Germany, Spain, United States, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland signed a joint statement supporting the Prague Gay Pride carnival to be held next week, following homophobic remarks last week from Petr Hajek, an aide of Czech President Vaclav Klaus (pictured), which were endorsed by his boss.

Klaus Said Hajek:

"The homosexuals' pressure action that will take place under the 'pretty Czech name' gay parade in Prague is not any innocent entertainment...It is a serious demonstration of a certain vision of the values in the world. It is a world in which traditional family plays no role...In this world, the monster of multiculturalism devours deep national traditions and cultural roots...It is a world in which sexual or any other deviation is elevated to a virtue, abnormality to a norm, the destruction of society to holy progress...A white man, heterosexual and Christian [is typically the endangered species in the world the participants in the event advocate]."

The British Embassy initiated the statement of support, according to Prague Monitor,  but claimed that it has no connection with the statements of Hajek and Klaus.

Said the statement: "We express our solidarity with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities in the Czech Republic, supporting their right to use this occasion to march together peacefully and lawfully, in order to raise awareness of the specific issues that affect them...Our governments seek to combat such discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity by promoting the human rights of all people."

Klaus today condemned the 13 embassies for their support:

Klaus says he considers a joint statement by the diplomats based in Prague, including U.S. Ambassador Norman Eisen, an “unprecedented step.” The president said Monday he could not imagine that any Czech ambassador would dare use a petition to influence a political discussion in any democratic country.

Czech President Won't Condemn Aide's Remarks That Gays Destroy Society, Family, Elevate Deviation to a Virtue

Czech President Vaclav Klaus is standing by his deputy chancellor Petr Hajek, who condemned the mayor of Prague for his support of a Gay Pride parade there, the AP reports.

Hajek Said Hajek, according to Ceske Noviny:

"The homosexuals' pressure action that will take place under the 'pretty Czech name' gay parade in Prague is not any innocent entertainment...It is a serious demonstration of a certain vision of the values in the world. It is a world in which traditional family plays no role...In this world, the monster of multiculturalism devours deep national traditions and cultural roots...It is a world in which sexual or any other deviation is elevated to a virtue, abnormality to a norm, the destruction of society to holy progress...A white man, heterosexual and Christian [is typically the endangered species in the world the participants in the event advocate]."

Klaus The AP reports that Klaus has defended his aide's remarks, despite calls from the Social Democrats and Public Affairs party for an apology: "Klaus refused to distance himself from Hajek's words and said he was not 'proud' of the event. The Aug. 13 parade is part of the first Prague gay pride festival that begins Wednesday."

Ceske Noviny adds:

Klaus writes in his statement released on his website www.klaus.cz. that the carnival is not a manifestation of homosexuality but "homosexual-ism" which he fears similarly like any other modern "-isms." ... According to Klaus, Hajek is not protesting against the march alone but against the fact that this event is held under the auspices of the mayor, and possibly some political entities in the country. "One thing is to tolerate it, but to express public support on behalf of a significant institution is something completely different," Klaus writes. It is a mere quibble to demur at Hajek´s use of the word "deviation" in connection with homosexuals, Klaus notes, adding that he considers the word deviation neutral. "In any case, homosexuality is a considerably minority phenomenon, and it deserves our protection as such, but not necessarily our apotheosis," Klaus writes.
