Hollywood Chick-Fil-A Franchise Holds LGBT Youth Fundraiser - VIDEO

Campus_Pride_chick_fundraiser

A Chick-Fil-A franchise in Hollywood, California held a fundraiser last weekend with the national gay youth group Campus Pride to help raise funds to combat bullying, reports LOGO TV.

Chick-Fil-A has faced the wrath of LGBT activists in recent years following the revelation that anti-gay CEO Dan Cathay has been funding homophobic groups and activists including the anti-gay listed hate group Family Research Council. Dancathy

During Saturday’s fundraiser an unspecified percent of sales went to Campus Pride’s campaign to raise money for an anonymous $10,000 matching grant. A table was also set up with pamphlets about Campus Pride and the anti-bullying organization Stand Up Foundation.

Of the event, Campus Pride director Shane Windmeyer said:

“We’re not going to turn away anyone who wants to be an ally and help us fundraise. Activism is dirty work. It’s work that some people don’t always agree on the journey or the past and today we were just trying to be positive, to move forward and to do things that are common ground issues.”

AFA’s Bryan Fischer: ‘Gay Activists Are Like Leeches’ - VIDEO

Screen Shot 2014-04-27 at 4.00.18 PM

American Family Association spokeshater Bryan Fischer is still really upset about Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy’s desire to put the whole anti-gay controversy behind him. Right Wing Watch reports that Fischer used his radio program yesterday to criticize Cathy’s decision to withdraw from the culture war, saying “gay activists are like leeches” for whom no amount of blood is ever enough.

Said Fischer:

“…with the homosexual lobby, you cannot ever give them enough. Don’t even try. There’s no point in making concessions. There’s no point in capitulating. There’s no point in yielding to their demands. There’s no point in offering them some kind of appeasment in the hopes they will leave you alone, that they will leave you in peace. It won’t work.”

Mike Huckabee and Tony Perkins Call Dan Cathy 'Coward' for Chick-fil-A Retreat on Anti-Gay Stance: VIDEO

Huckabee_perkins

Mike Huckabee and Dan Cathy went after Chick-fil-A's Dan Cathy on FOX News program Huckabee over the weekend, reacting to the Chick-fil-A CEO's recent statements that he wants to put the company's anti-gay controversy behind him (even though his personal views haven't changed).

CathySaid Perkins:

"I think we're seeing those in the business community becoming cowards."

Asked Huckabee:

"Why is it that businesses would capitulate to the pressure and demands to just shut up and go away and not say anything when nobody is asking the Left to do that?"

Added Perkins:

"Tolerance is a one-way street for these individuals. What they want to do is force the rest of America not to just to tolerate but to celebrate what they're doing. They want to redefine America...They're doing it in large part because many, even conservative business owners who are fearful of these attacks, are going silent. They're going dark on these issues. They're capitulating. And that's just allowing this group to roll over our freedoms and liberties...What they're wanting to do is silence the vast majority of Americans who disagree with them."

Chick Fil-A CEO Wants To Put Anti-Gay Controversy Behind Him Though Beliefs Haven't Changed

For over half a decade, the fast food chain Chick Fil-A has donated millions of dollars to anti-gay groups (including ones that want to criminalize and deport gay "pedophiles"). In addition to those funds, the company president Dan Cathy has repeatedly made statements opposing same-sex marriage. However, he would now like to put all that behind him.

Dan_cathyIn an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution Cathy said:

"Every leader goes through different phases of maturity, growth and development and it helps by (recognizing) the mistakes that you make," Cathy said. "And you learn from those mistakes. If not, you’re just a fool. I’m thankful that I lived through it and I learned a lot from it." ...

"Probably the elements that were stressful for me most is from our internal staff and from operators and how this may be affecting them. The bottom line is we have a responsibility here to keep the whole of the organization in mind and it has to take precedence over the personal expression and opinion on social issues." ...

"Consumers want to do business with brands that they can interface with, that they can relate with. And it’s probably very wise from our standpoint to make sure that we present our brand in a compelling way that the consumer can relate to."

He’s still against gay marriage though:

I think the time of truths and principles are captured and codified in God’s word and I’m just personally committed to that, [Cathy] said. I know others feel very different from that and I respect their opinion and I hope that they would be respectful of mine.

Let’s take a quick stroll down memory lane and see if Cathy and his cash cow have really moved on to greener pastures…

Chick-Fil-A Bigot CEO Dan Cathy Receiving Equality Award

Cathy

Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy is receiving an EQUALITY award from the Urban League of Greater Atlanta at its prestigious Equal Opportunity Day Dinner in November, Fenuxe reports:

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Champions of Justice and Equality.”

Honorees of the prestigious recognition this year include Congressman John Lewis, who is truly a shining beacon of equality, civil rights, and justice for all and Chick-fil-A CEO Dan T. Cathy. You may remember Cathy and the statements he made against gay marriage that sparked headlines throughout the world and a boycott of the chicken restaurant.

Yes, Dan Cathy has since made amends with gay rights activist groups and has stopped donating to organizations that are overtly anti-gay, but his position on gay marriage remains the same. And the corporation is seemingly still donating large sums to organizations like the Marriage & Family Foundation and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which both promote marriage in the ‘biblical sense’ and are strongly and openly opposed to same-sex marriage.

So, Chick-fil-A has basically taken steps to make themselves look better because it was hurting their business … but nothing really changed.

That civil rights hero John Lewis and Cathy would be put in the same sentence, much less on the same stage together is revolting.

UPDATE: The ULGA defends the award in a Facebook post.

Chick-Fil-A President Dan Cathy Deletes Anti-Gay Tweet Blasting Supreme Court Rulings

Cathy

Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy attacked declared his displeasure over yesterday's Supreme Court rulings on Twitter but then deleted the tweet.

Said Cathy's tweet: "Sad day for our nation; founding fathers would be ashamed of our gen. to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies."

CNNMoney reports:

Chick-fil-A released a prepared statement that neither supported nor denounced Cathy's tweet.

"Dan Cathy, like everyone in this country, has his own views. However, Chick-fil-A is focused on providing great tasting food and genuine hospitality to everyone," the company said.

The tone of Chick-fil-A's statement is similar to how the company handled backlash against Cathy's previous comments on gay marriage.
